"I still have a mission. I have to leave once I get you to a safe place."
Upon hearing this, Chen Shuning remembered that He Chaoyang must have come into the mountains on a mission. Feeling a little embarrassed, he hurriedly said, "Ah, look, I forgot that you came here on a mission, Brother He. If you have something to do, you can go ahead. I know the way down the mountain myself, I can go back by myself."
Chen Shuning didn't want to delay He Chaoyang's important business, so he started to walk down the mountain as he was talking, but unexpectedly, he felt a sharp pain in his right ankle as soon as he took a step.
The excruciating pain in her ankle, as if it had been broken, caused Chen Shuning to collapse to the ground, letting out a muffled groan of agony.
He Chaoyang was already somewhat insecure because he was six years older than Chen Shuning. He always felt that liking such a young girl was like an old cow eating young grass. So, for the first time, he hesitated because he was the type to act recklessly once he set his sights on someone.
He was unsure whether he should continue to indulge his feelings, after all, Chen Shuning was still young, while he was already twenty-two. So when he heard Chen Shuning inquiring about the names of the young soldiers under his command, He Chaoyang couldn't quite describe how he felt.
There was anger, there was bitterness, but more than anything, there was fear—fear that Chen Shuning would fall for that young soldier who was about her age.
So much so that he was somewhat distracted and didn't react immediately when Chen Shuning fell, and could only watch helplessly as Chen Shuning slumped to the ground.
Seeing the little girl's face turn pale instantly from the pain, He Chaoyang became truly anxious. He completely forgot his earlier concerns and rushed to Chen Shuning's side, asking urgently, "What happened? Are you hurt somewhere?"
It wasn't until now that Chen Shuning remembered that she seemed to have twisted her ankle when she fell, but because she had been in a tense state, she didn't feel much pain in her ankle.
But now that she knows she is safe, she relaxes and, in her haste to go down the mountain, she took a few big steps, which caused her injured ankle to twist again, making the injury worse and causing her ankle to burn with pain.
Hearing He Chaoyang's question, Chen Shuning pointed to his ankle with a bitter face and said, "It seems like I twisted my ankle."
Seeing that the little girl was sweating from the pain in just a short while, He Chaoyang felt anxious. Without thinking, he reached out and carefully pulled up Chen Shuning's leg, which she clearly dared not move. When he pulled up her trouser leg, he saw her ankle, which was twisted and swollen.
He glanced at Chen Shuning, who was in pain, and asked with disapproval, "It must be a sprain."
As he spoke, he pressed several points on Chen Shuning's injured ankle with his fingers. Then, He Chaoyang tightened his grip on Chen Shuning's ankle, and with a "crack" sound, Chen Shuning's ankle, which had been twisted, returned to its original shape, although the swelling still hadn't subsided.
If a doctor were present, they might have praised He Chaoyang's bone-setting technique as highly professional, but Chen Shuning had no idea.
The searing pain, like being burned by a scorching flame, made Chen Shuning cry out on the spot. Just as she was about to curse, she heard He Chaoyang breathe a sigh of relief and say, "Fortunately, it was just a dislocated ankle bone. I've already put the dislocated bone back in place. However, the soft tissue damage looks quite serious. I may need to rest for a while when I get back."
During this period, it's best to avoid putting weight on this foot to prevent repeated movement of the injured area and potential secondary injury.
Upon hearing this, Chen Shuning's expression became even more bitter, and he said with a mournful look, "It seems that I have been injured twice. When I fell just now, I only felt a little pain in my ankle, so I didn't pay much attention to it. I was in a hurry to go down the mountain and took a few big steps."
As she spoke, Chen Shuning pointed to a small hole about the size of a thermos bottle next to her feet and said, "The foot that was just injured happened to step on something again and twisted its ankle, which is why it's like this."
"But Brother He, isn't that a rabbit hole? It looks a bit like one."
As she spoke, Chen Shuning curiously moved closer to the small hole that had caused her to twist her ankle for the second time, peering inside to see if there were any rabbits.
Meanwhile, He Chaoyang glared at Chen Shuning, both amused and exasperated, and complained, "Don't you even look at the state of your foot? You still have the mood to look at the rabbit hole? Let me tell you, you won't be able to put your foot down for at least ten days."
As he spoke, he reached out and pulled Chen Shuning, whose head was almost stuck in the cave, up. He turned his back to Chen Shuning and said, "Hurry up and come up. I'll carry you down the mountain. This Daqingshan Mountain is much more dangerous than you think. I don't have any weapons on me. If we really encounter wild animals, we won't be able to run away even if we want to."
When He Chaoyang entered the mountains, he was fully armed, just like the young soldier. However, when he heard that Chen Shuning was walking alone into the deep mountains, he unloaded his heavy guns and ammunition in order to find Chen Shuning as soon as possible. He only took a pistol and a military dagger with him and chased after him.
He had originally thought that with his skills, these weapons would be enough if he encountered enemy agents.
He Chaoyang hadn't expected Chen Shuning to be so bold, daring to venture into the deep mountains alone on her first trip into the mountains. If Chen Shuning hadn't gone into the deep mountains, she wouldn't have encountered enemy agents, and she certainly wouldn't have been chased so far.
Living in modern times, Chen Shuning really didn't have the concept that there were wild animals in the mountains. Although she had heard this a lot, she had never taken it seriously since she had never seen them with her own eyes.
