The warehouse is quite large, probably around 200 to 300 square meters. In a small county town like this, such a warehouse is not small.
The items inside were arranged much more neatly than they appeared on the outside; everything was grouped together according to its type.
In her previous life, Chen Shuning had never had the chance to see any antiques or calligraphy and paintings, so she couldn't tell whether these things were real or fake, good or bad. Therefore, she just wandered around the warehouse based on her intuition.
More than ten minutes passed, and Chen Shuning still hadn't gotten anything. Just as she was feeling disappointed and lamenting that she really didn't have the fate of being the female lead,
Chen Shuning stumbled upon a beautifully designed canopy bed in a corner. Although he couldn't tell what kind of wood it was made of, he was already captivated by its design.
Although I couldn't identify the material of the wood used for the bed, the dark purple wood looked dense and solid, and it had a faint fragrance when I got closer, which was especially noticeable in the musty warehouse.
The various exquisite openwork patterns shimmer with a satin-like luster. Not only does the bed frame have exquisite carvings, but even the ingenious structure of the railings gives people a very comfortable visual experience.
Although it was in a dilapidated warehouse full of junk, you could tell that the original owner of the bed cherished it very much.
The entire bed frame was free of any bumps or wear, and even the mortise and tenon joints were perfectly fitted without any looseness.
The bed was probably delivered as a complete set, so there were still many small parts made of the same material as the bed frame piled up inside the canopy bed.
Looking at the exquisite canopy bed, Chen Shuning felt that she still had a bit of a protagonist's aura. She turned her head to look in the direction of the door, and seeing that no one was there, she waved her hand and the entire canopy bed disappeared from sight.
Although this wasn't the first time he'd done something like this, Chen Shuning was still incredibly nervous. Looking at the large empty space where the canopy bed used to be, Chen Shuning was genuinely afraid that the gatekeeper would come in and discover something.
So he quickly grabbed a few bundles of comic books from where the books and paintings were kept and hurriedly walked out of the warehouse.
As if guided by some unseen force, just as Chen Shuning reached the warehouse door, his eyes inadvertently glanced to the side.
One glance was enough to make Chen Shuning unable to move, because she saw a somewhat familiar object.
If she remembered correctly, the female protagonist in the book, Yang Wanqiu, seemed to have once again found a seemingly inconspicuous wardrobe by chance at a scrap yard.
Because the female lead hadn't yet obtained Gu Xinyi's space at that time, she moved to the storage room where Wang Chunni and the others now live after having a falling out with the old educated youth.
Because she spent a lot of money repairing the house, the female protagonist, who had no money to buy furniture, decided to go to a scrap metal recycling station.
By chance, I entered this warehouse and bought an old wardrobe that was missing half a door.
It wasn't until I got back and dusted it that I discovered this seemingly unremarkable wardrobe actually had a hidden secret.
At the bottom of the wardrobe was a hidden compartment filled with gold and silver jewelry. It was this jewelry that made the female and male protagonist live a very fulfilling life in the countryside for nearly ten years.
The reason Chen Shuning has been so persistent in coming to this scrap metal recycling station to find treasures is probably because of this.
So when Chen Shuning saw the wardrobe that seemed to contain jewelry, he no longer cared about whether the canopy bed would be discovered.
He hurriedly dropped the comic book in his hand and ran towards the wardrobe by the front door, which was obviously just pulled over and hadn't been placed among the wooden furniture yet, to carefully observe its style.
Just like described in the book, the dark brown wardrobe was missing half of its door, but the two drawers below were still there, although the handles for both drawers were gone.
The book also highlights the cabinet door, which is now only half-open, and the carved patterns on it are different from those on ordinary wardrobes, such as flowers, birds, dragons, and phoenixes. The carved pattern on that cabinet door is actually a tiger.
It's important to know that tigers were considered ferocious beasts in ancient China, so very few people would carve such patterns on their wardrobes.
Squatting down, Chen Shuning pulled the two drawers under the wardrobe out of the wall. Following the description in the book, he groped around inside the right wardrobe for a while and sure enough, he found a small protrusion.
He pressed down hard, and with a "click," a large drawer popped out from under the wardrobe where the base should have been.
Pulling the drawer out completely, Chen Shuning was immediately stunned by what he saw when he lifted the quilt.
I don't know why I've been so drawn to jade lately, because my drawer is now full of jade jewelry.
The quality and workmanship were no worse than those she had bought from the black market.
Each piece of jewelry was secured to the quilt with cloth straps, presumably to prevent them from colliding and getting damaged. Chen Shuning reached out and pulled at the quilt; there were at least ten layers of quilt, with about forty or fifty pieces of jewelry tied to each layer.
It looks like these pieces of jewelry were carefully hidden in a wardrobe.
However, she didn't have time to admire these exquisite pieces of jewelry one by one. Fearing that someone might come over, Chen Shuning, as usual, put the jewelry in the hidden compartment, along with the quilt, into her space.
Then she quickly pushed the hidden compartment back in and stuffed the two drawers she had taken out back in.
Just as she finished tidying up and picked up the comic book she had tossed aside, Chen Shuning heard the gatekeeper's voice.
