The letter contained a jumble of miscellaneous writings that filled four or five pages.
The letter from the eldest son of the Chen family was much simpler. It lacked the usual family gossip from Chen's mother and simply stated that he had sent her a military overcoat and some local specialties from Shanghai.
In the letter, he also mentioned that a classmate he was on good terms with had been transferred to this military region a few years ago, and left his classmate's name and contact information so that she could contact him for help if she encountered any difficulties.
When Chen Shuning saw the three brightly lit characters "He Chaoyang" on her brother's letter, her first thought was, "Could it be such a coincidence?" If she remembered correctly, the handsome soldier on the train seemed to have the same name, and they were both from Beijing.
But then I thought about it again, and these days there are just too many people with names like Chaoyang, Yuanchao, Jianguo, and Aidang. Maybe they just happen to have the same name.
In any case, unless there is a problem that cannot be solved, Chen Shuning does not want to use these connections, since he is not familiar with them. Therefore, regardless of whether they are the same person or not, Chen Shuning has no intention of contacting them.
So she simply gave up and lazily got out of bed to prepare a meal. Although Chen Shuning was a good cook, cooking over a fire in the hot summer was an ordeal, so she always kept it as simple as possible and avoided stir-frying whenever possible.
Today, I rinsed some rice in a lunchbox, put the washed vegetables, lean meat and eggs on top, put it in a pot and steamed for 25 minutes. The simple version of braised rice was ready.
While waiting for the food to cook, Chen Shuning habitually took a small stool and sat by the door to cool off. Before long, she smelled the aroma of food coming from next door and couldn't help but feel a little envious of Gu Xinyi's cooking skills.
She can turn simple vegetables into a gourmet meal. I really don't know what seasonings she uses to make the dishes look so appetizing.
Gu Xinyi's house has also started construction today. It's being built next to the row of mud-brick houses in the village. The location is a bit close to the toilet, so the smell might not be very pleasant in the summer. However, there really isn't any other suitable place in the backyard.
Moreover, Chen Shuning noticed that Gao Hongyuan and Wang Zhi had deliberately chosen the room furthest east when they rented the apartment, thinking that they would become neighbors once Gu Xinyi's house was completed.
Before Gu Xinyi's house was completed, she naturally chose to share a room with Gao Hongyuan and his friends. This made Chen Shuning even more confused about how the plot would develop. The current situation seemed completely different from what was described in the book.
However, Chen Shuning didn't care much about these disputes, as long as they stayed far away from her and didn't interfere with her life.
Because he had to get up early the next day to take the village's oxcart to town, Chen Shuning didn't eat his meal while munching on sunflower seeds and listening to gossip like he had the previous days. Instead, he washed up and went to bed early.
