Xiang Nanzhi picked up the trash can and said, "Then throw it in here, and I'll exchange it for two fish."
"It has nothing to do with fish."
"It's dirty!"
Shen Shixun held the fish by its gills, his rough fingers digging in. The fish was still moving. He made an incision along the fish's belly, put down the knife, and reached in to pull out all the fish's intestines.
The man deftly tossed the bloody intestines and entrails into the trash can.
Another fish, and using the same steps, the bloody intestines and internal organs were removed.
Xiang Nanzhi was stunned.
"Kill them first, then do it. How can you do it if you don't kill them?"
"The recipe told me to prepare the ingredients, but it didn't say how to kill the animal." Xiang Nanzhi showed him the recipe.
She had prepared tofu, scallions, ginger, oil, and fish.
"You were told to chop the tofu and scallions, did you do that?"
Shen Shixun stared at the long piece of scallion in the sink. She chopped it better... even pinching it with her hands would have done a better job.
Xiang Nanzhi nodded, "Yes, I cut it in half with a knife."
"Go take a shower, then we'll eat."
Isn't that one of her lines?
"Shen Shixun, aren't you afraid?"
"What are you afraid of?"
"You killed the fish, two fish."
Shen Shixun quickly cleaned the fish. "What flavor do you want?"
"It's a little sour."
Sweet and sour?
"Then sweet and sour it is."
When I came out of the shower, two fish were lying quietly on the plate. They were cooked and looked delicious, with a hint of sweet and sour aroma, and sprinkled with a few chopped green onions.
This scene was just like the scene she had imagined of preparing a meal and waiting for Shen Shixun to come back.
Only the roles have been reversed.
Men chop vegetables very quickly, finishing in just a few strokes, and a dish is ready in no time after a few quick stirs.
