"Alright, alright, stop arguing and get back to work."
Xiang Nanzhi sat there helplessly, sensing that everyone's tone was unpleasant, but not knowing what to do. She looked at Jira, "Jira..."
"It's alright, sister-in-law, it's alright. Let's chat."
Shen Jila comforted her, and Xiang Nanzhi felt empty inside. Suddenly, she missed Shen Shixun, Gucheng, and wanted to go home.
The man didn't return until almost noon, carrying a large haul. Shen Jila pulled her along to meet him from a distance, exclaiming, "Brother, you're back!"
"Take them all back."
Rooney joked, "Gila, your brother is still a sharpshooter, but he can't beat him."
"That's right. My brother has been a sharpshooter his whole life. Even if he doesn't touch a gun for a long time, he won't become rusty."
The men in the family died early, and when he was very young, his mother raised him and Shen Jila alone. His father was a Han Chinese who could speak the Gong language, and he was saved by his mother in an accident.
After that, she moved into the tribe and had a son and a daughter with Shen's mother.
When Shen Shixun was five years old, his father suddenly disappeared. No one knew if he was carried away by some wild animal, but according to other people in the tribe, he left on his own and no one knew where he went.
The family cannot survive without a man. Shenmu, being a woman, cannot do hunting, so she can only ask the other men in the tribe for help, with each family providing a little assistance.
Shen Shixun never liked asking others for money. He was too young to carry a gun, so he took Shen Jila to raid rabbit burrows.
Sometimes you can catch a wild rabbit, sometimes you can't get anything back and you just go hungry.
Later, when the men were older and able to carry hunting rifles, they went hunting with the men of the tribe and honed their skills.
"Rooney, dismount."
"good."
Shen Shixun asked him, "Did you touch the woman who saved me yesterday?"
Rooney's expression immediately changed, and he raised his hand and shook his head, "No, no, no, no."
The man then looked at Nan Zhi, "Which hand did he touch you with yesterday?"
Xiang Nanzhi shook his head and pointed to his left hand, "He touched me when he helped me mount the horse yesterday."
"Anything else?"
"That's all."
Rooney couldn't speak, but he could understand some of it. "Sehun, if I touched you, would you turn against me?"
"We're practically brothers, would you really chop off Rooney's hand?" the others joked.
Without the slightest hesitation, the man replied, "I will."
Shen Jila and her mother were processing the game inside the house. Xiang Nanzhi looked at the blood-soaked mess and felt it was cruel.
A hint of pity flashed in her eyes. The man pulled her out of the tent, carrying a bag in his hand. Something was moving inside the bag. "What?"
"Open it and take a look."
Xiang Nanzhi shook her head. She was like a small flower petal drifting in the wind, completely unable to take care of herself in this grassland, knowing nothing, and could only follow him.
"Don't be afraid, be bolder."
What is it?
I won't tell you, you'll see for yourself.
"A snake, no, it can't be a snake, can it?" Her voice changed.
Shim Se-hoon is going to kill someone.
"No." The man sighed helplessly, lifting the rabbit by its ears. "Look, is it a snake?"
"It's a little rabbit..."
Do you like it?
Xiang Nanzhi had never kept a pet before, but she really liked the rabbit in front of her; it was white and soft.
Seeing that she didn't react for a while, I said, "You don't like eating rabbit at night, so I'll go cook it."
"No..." Xiang Nanzhi tried to grab the rabbit's ears, then pulled her hand back. "Will it...will it bite?"
"No, come on, I've got you."
Xiang Nanzhi reached out to grab the rabbit's ear, but with little force, the rabbit escaped from the man's large, strong hand and landed in his delicate little hand. It jumped down and disappeared in a flash across the grassland.
Shen Shixun couldn't help but laugh, "Can't even catch a rabbit."
"Let it go home; it's not meant to be."
They had a lavish dinner, all of which was game hunted by Shen Shixun. The game was quite strange, and Xiang Nanzhi had never eaten it before.
The meat is delicious, but the texture is very rough because it is prepared using the most primitive methods.
A little oil and salt, a little pepper and chili powder.
Having grown accustomed to the exquisite cuisine of high-end restaurants, Xiang Nanzhi found these dishes unpalatable and could only manage a few bites before giving up.
Shen Shixun gnawed on a bone and threw it out. The two mastiffs fought over it, so he threw another one over, which was quickly devoured by the mastiffs.
The man glanced at her and said, "You have children; even a dog can eat more than you."
As night fell, Xiang Nanzhi dared not sleep alone, but was too embarrassed to say so.
Shen Shixun washed his face and came back, lying down next to her. She felt a little panicked.
The man stood up. "Then I'll sleep on the floor..."
"Don't."
She grabbed his arm, the veins beneath his muscles throbbing in her hand. "You, you just don't touch me."
Do you really think he's a beast? He keeps repeating the same things over and over again.
"OK."
He responded and took another blanket to cover himself.
The temperature is high during the day on the grassland, but a cool breeze blows at night, bringing a slight chill.
Xiang Nanzhi touched the quilt in his hand and suddenly said, "Single layer, I've never used a quilt like this before."
It's quite unusual; it only has hair on one side.
"Dog skin rug".
Xiang Nanzhi immediately tensed up, "Then..."
That wasn't some bloody fur ripped off a living person; she slept wrapped in it all night yesterday.
Shen Shixun noticed her unease and gave a cold laugh. "It's nothing."
Her fear of everything and her unfamiliarity with everything actually made him find her somewhat endearing.
"Xiang Nanzhi, have you never left the ancient city?"
