Chapter 15 Let's do something together tonight

Song Yaoyao's words came to an abrupt halt after the red cloth covering the box was lifted.

The large box that had originally contained the red leather suitcase was now completely empty.

She paused, unable to believe it, and then lifted the bamboo basket beside her and the dozen or so boxes behind it.

She discovered that all the grain coupons, cloth coupons, and the folding tables and chairs that were only available in the city were gone, as were the silk and cotton quilts that she had longed to take with her in her previous life but was unable to because of the long distance.

Song Yaoyao was absolutely furious.

She let out a loud scream and threw herself into Ling's mother's arms, crying her heart out, leaving all the educated youth around her dumbfounded.

"Mom, I have no dowry left! What am I going to do? My in-laws will look down on me! My sister just tried to drive a wedge between me and Shuyao. I don't want to live anymore, waaaaah..."

Ling's mother looked worried and kept patting her adopted daughter's back to comfort her, calling her "my darling" repeatedly, which left everyone looking on with a big question mark in their eyes!

The biological daughter was falsely accused of having an affair by her adopted daughter, and the biological mother actually comforted her adopted daughter.

Ling Huanwu was already used to the touching mother-daughter relationship between the two.

For the past ten years, including so many years in her previous life, she could only stand alone on the opposite side of them, watching the three of them live happily together, as if she were an outsider.

Now, she looked at the tall, broad-shouldered man beside her, who exuded a sense of security, and held his hand tightly, resting her head on his shoulder, giving him a provocative smile as Song Yaoyao always did.

For a moment, Song Yaoyao stared at Zhou Jiuzhen, who hadn't pushed Ling Huanwu away, her eyes bloodshot with rage, almost vomiting blood.

In her previous life, she tried to hold Zhou Jiuzhen's hand many times in front of others, but Zhou Jiuzhen coldly and ruthlessly pushed her away each time.

Why is it that Ling Huanwu can get close to Zhou Jiuzhen without being disliked?

She's now filled with regret.

It's all my fault for taking out the diary; I tried to steal a chicken but ended up losing the rice instead, which only made the two of them appear affectionate in front of outsiders.

Song Yaoyao's chest heaved violently as scenes of being neglected in her previous life flashed before her eyes.

Finally, she remembered the scene where she drugged Zhou Jiuzhen, and he remained indifferent to her.

So what if Zhou Jiuzhen gives Ling Huanwu face in public?

At night, he couldn't provide her with the pleasures of womanhood, leaving her feeling utterly widowed and worse off than dead.

The anger in Song Yaoyao's heart gradually dissipated when she thought about Zhou Jiuzhen's incompetence.

At this moment, Ling's father also stepped forward, glaring at Ling Huanwu with a look of disappointment, then turned to Song Yaoyao with a loving expression and made a promise, "Yaoyao, don't cry. Just consider it as your sister tricking your father into giving you this dowry. But I have decided to leave all the family's property to you, and not a single penny to your sister!"

"Alright, sweet Yao Yao, stop crying."

"I will also leave you the phoenix crown and headdress that were passed down from my maternal grandfather!"

The way Ling's parents tried their best to coax Song Yaoyao to stop crying made anyone who didn't know the situation really think that the three of them were a blood-related family.

As Ling Huanwu listened to her biological parents say that they were going to hand over all their property, she felt as if countless dull knives were cutting into her flesh. Her hands, hanging by her sides, were deeply embedded in her palms, but she didn't feel any pain.

If Song Yaoyao wants to take her blind and heartless parents, she can have them.

But what right does Song Yaoyao, an outsider, have to seize what belongs to her?

You should know that the property was specifically left to her by her grandfather before he passed away, precisely because he was afraid that Ling's parents might not be thinking clearly and would divide the property among Song Yaoyao.

In her previous life, Song Yaoyao didn't make such a fuss when she received her dowry, so Ling's parents didn't bring up the matter of property distribution.

Unexpectedly, in this life, the parents are even more outrageous.

Perhaps sensing the trembling of Ling Huanwu's clenched fist, Zhou Jiuzhen carefully grasped her fist with his warm, dry hand, as if to comfort her, or perhaps to show his pity.

“Father-in-law and mother-in-law, as your son-in-law, I originally had no right to interfere in the distribution of your family’s property. But if you give all the property to Comrade Song, does that mean you’re severing ties with my wife and expecting Comrade Song to support you in your old age?”

Zhou Jiuzhen, holding Ling Huanwu's hand, looked around at the educated youth and some neighbors who had come to watch the commotion. His loud voice was as persuasive as if he were giving a speech, "If families in our village were to split up, even if the parents were biased, they would still get a share. Tell me, isn't my father-in-law and mother-in-law's behavior a sign that they want to sever ties?"

Upon hearing this, the surrounding villagers and educated youth nodded frantically as if they had been forced to do so, expressing their agreement.

These days, which family doesn't have several brothers and sisters?

I've seen parents be biased before, but I've never seen such bias.

Why do biological parents refuse to give their own daughter a single penny and instead give all their assets to a liar who slanders their daughter?

This is simply unheard of.

"Exactly, if that's the case, then Comrade Ling, you should sever ties with your parents. What's the point of having parents who can't distinguish right from wrong?"

"That's right. I've never heard of an adopted daughter taking care of her parents in their old age. Ling Zhiqing, you'd better write a document to sever ties with your parents now, otherwise they'll come looking for you later if your adopted daughter doesn't take care of them in their old age."

Everyone chimed in with their own opinions, until Ling's parents turned ashen-faced, unsure how to refute them.

Seeing that the two were wavering, Song Yaoyao quickly jumped out, grabbed Ling's parents' hands, and began to make a promise.

"Mom and Dad, don't worry, I will take care of you in your old age!"

“I don’t blame my sister for hiding her dowry, but she didn’t need to lie to us and embarrass our parents. It’s all my fault for not making it clear to my sister beforehand that I wouldn’t take her dowry, which is why she did this.”

As Song Yaoyao spoke, she stammered and wiped away tears, looking pitiful, which made the villagers and educated youth who had just witnessed her lying lose their will to criticize her.
