The wind outside was biting cold.
The lights inside the room flickered.
Ling Huanwu hooked her arms around the man's thick neck, her hands, which were red from the effort, turning even redder. "I was just shaking hands with Director He, why are you making such a fuss? Come on, let's go to sleep. We have to get up early to catch the boat tomorrow..."
She sounded aggrieved, pinched his hard cheek, and pulled him to turn off the light.
Zhou Jiuzhen patted her head, sighed deeply, and said in a hoarse voice, "You've only just recovered from a serious illness; our good days are yet to come..."
"A good day?"
Ling Huanwu chuckled, cupping his slightly stubble-covered, rugged chin, and couldn't resist pecking his tightly pursed lips. "What kind of good days? Good days of fooling around with you every night? How can you be so filthy? I was just sleepy and wanted to go to bed."
Zhou Jiuzhen's gaze swept over her vivid and alluring eyebrows and eyes, and then settled on her cloud-like lips, his eyes darkening. "I remember when we first met, you wanted to have a good time with me every night, didn't you?"
"Well, I was just trying to expand the space, you know I've always been a person of simple desires..."
"Hey, when did our Comrade Ling catch my stubbornness too? Who was crying just now..."
Zhou Jiuzhen pinched her puffed-up cheeks in return, unable to resist teasing her.
"Ahhh, Zhou Jiuzhen, do you mean I'm desperate for sex? Just now, someone kissed my hand so hard it turned red just because I was held by someone else. I cried because your beard was scratching me, okay?"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Jiuzhen felt as if the sky had fallen. He quickly took her hand and examined it closely, his eyes reddening. "I'll go out and buy some ointment!"
"All the pharmacies in the city are closed now, and besides, have you forgotten what we have?"
Ling Huanwu quickly grabbed Zhou Jiuzhen, who was about to get out of bed. Staring at his bewildered expression, she smiled and got up, pulling him into the long-unvisited space.
Zhou Jiuzhen blinked and found that his surroundings had changed.
"Has our space been robbed?"
Looking around, the space is filled with enclosed little worlds on all sides!
The mud around my feet was black and oily, and it felt soft and squishy underfoot.
Looking into the distance, the waist-high rice paddies are swaying their heavy, golden ears of grain, which are so full they look like they're about to burst open, and they're even half a head taller than the best rice in the production team.
"Th-that's an apple?" Zhou Jiuzhen's voice trembled as he pointed to the fruit tree not far away.
The palm-sized apples hung from the branches, their red color resembling the offerings in a temple, gleaming with a solid sheen.
The cucumber trellis next to him was even more astonishing. Each cucumber, with its flower and thorns still attached, was as long as his forearm, glossy green, and looked as if you could squeeze water out of it. The leaves were so green they were almost black. It was ten times more vibrant than the most fertile vegetable garden he had ever seen.
Zhou Jiuzhen's Adam's apple bobbed as he reached out and touched the tomato beside him. The fist-sized fruit was firm and evenly red, without a single wormhole.
He had never seen such outstanding crops in his life, like... like they had stepped out of a New Year's painting, with an unreal brightness.
"I thought Daya and the others were exaggerating, but I didn't expect them to be so conservative..."
Zhou Jiuzhen opened his mouth, but couldn't say anything for a long time.
Only then did I understand how Aunt Liu and the others managed to be self-sufficient in their space for an entire year.
Ling Huanwu was also shocked by the scene before her.
Although Aunt Liu and Aunt Gao had already told her about their farming adventures in the space, she was still astonished by the crops inside.
When Aunt Liu pushed a tub full of supplies into the space, she happened to bring various seeds with her. During the days when the group had run out of food and spiritual spring water and were still hungry, they could only try planting crops as an option.
To their surprise, the vegetables they planted today grew perfectly in the ground the very next day.
Later, they had more food and fruit than they could ever finish eating.
She picked a big red apple, wiped it on her clothes, and then stuffed it into Zhou Jiuzhen's mouth, which was so shocked that he couldn't close it for a long time.
"Aunt Liu and the others said they were very upset because they couldn't harvest the rice and fruit. I never expected them to be so capable and manage to cultivate so much land."
Zhou Jiuzhen bit into the apple, the sweet juice moistening his throat, and it was gone in a few bites.
"Capable! Capable!"
The sudden squawking of a parrot startled the two of them, causing them to turn around in fright.
A bright green parrot was perched on a tree, tilting its head and looking at the two of them with excitement in its eyes.
Ling Huanwu's eyes were full of doubt. She couldn't understand how the parrot, which wasn't locked in the large spatial warehouse, could appear outside.
The two exchanged a smile and then went to look at the locked door in the warehouse.
The lock in the middle of the door was still there, but the wooden door had a crack, and the parrot had obviously squeezed out through that crack.
The two were surprised that Aunt Liu and her family were so patient, and didn't even think of breaking down the warehouse door to find out what was going on.
Ling Huanwu took out the key she always carried with her and opened the door.
The room was packed full of things, and the floor was covered in a layer of dust, indicating that no one had been in or out for a long time.
Ling Huanwu lifted the white cloth covering the bamboo basket, and the cured meat and fruits and vegetables inside were all as fresh as ever.
Ling Huanwu was still sniffing the cured meat in shock when Zhou Jiuzhen pulled out an exquisite phoenix crown from some hidden corner, his face full of astonishment. "Huanwu, you'll look stunning wearing this."
“Let’s have another traditional Chinese wedding sometime and invite all the brothers in the army to celebrate. The wedding we had in Stone Village before was too shabby!”
"If possible, I'd like to have a wedding with you every year, until we can't walk anymore! What do you say?"
As he spoke, he placed the phoenix crown on Ling Huanwu's head, gazing at her with eyes full of stars, as if the wedding were right before his eyes, and he was dressed in wedding attire, bowing to her as husband and wife.
Ling Huanwu was momentarily dazed.
In her previous life, when she was in her forties, she suddenly had the idea to hold a traditional Chinese wedding with Zhou Shuyao.
She felt that life was short, and the two of them had only held a simple wedding banquet in Stone Village, without even a decent wedding dress.
So she wanted to make up for the regrets of her youth while she was still young and still in shape enough to wear a wedding dress.
But Zhou Shuyao and his triplets all felt ashamed.
They say that in this world, there are no elderly couples with grown children who still hold a wedding ceremony.
And so, the first request she ever made to them was utterly crushed by them.
Zhou Jiuzhen now says he wants to have a wedding with her every year, until they grow old.
It turns out that the differences between people are so vast.
He loves you so much that he wishes every day could be as sweet as that of a newlywed couple.
He doesn't love you, so everything you do is shameful.
Just like Zhou Jiuzhen and Zhou Shuyao, one is in heaven and the other is on earth!
Ling Huanwu dropped the cured meat in her hand, her eyes reddening as she wrapped her arms around his strong, muscular waist, her eyes curving into crescents. "I know why you want to marry me every day."
What's the reason?
Zhou Jiuzhen stood there, bewildered.
Ling Huanwu tiptoed and whispered a few words in his ear, which made Zhou Jiuzhen's face turn red instantly!
