Zhou Shuyao was completely bewildered, his mood inexplicably interrupted, and then he was brutally beaten by a stranger who suddenly barged in. He was so angry that he felt like he was going to vomit blood.
He was about to retaliate with his fist raised when he heard the androgynous man in front of him, whose expression was cold and vicious, utter those words.
Betrayal? Triplets?
A look of confusion flashed across Zhou Shuyao's face as he faced the descending fist, asking in bewilderment, "How can you call it betrayal if I sleep with my own wife? Besides, where did I get triplets from?"
Qin Jinshen's fist stopped, and he looked at Ling's parents, who were looking at him in fear at the door. He felt as if he had been struck by lightning.
In this life, Ling Huanwu didn't marry Zhou Shuyao!
He suddenly remembered the tall, powerful man who had protected the petite woman behind him at the Ling family home, the man with the strength of an ox who could plant a tree into a wall. In a panic, he loosened his grip on Zhou Shuyao's collar and staggered back several steps before regaining his balance.
Then, standing in the low mud-brick house, he pointed at Zhou Shuyao and burst into laughter, "Zhou Shuyao, so in her eyes you're just someone she can discard at any time. So you're no better than me, hahaha..."
Everyone in the room was stunned. Even Song Yaoyao couldn't understand why this fearsome bigwig from Hong Kong had gone crazy.
Amidst the bewildered and terrified gazes of the crowd, Qin Jinshen turned his cold gaze to Song Yaoyao, who was cowering in the corner of the bed. A murderous intent flashed in his sinister eyes as he gritted his teeth and said each word with clenched teeth, "Where is Ling Huanwu? Where is she? Tell me now!"
A slap landed on her face, and then Song Yaoyao was dragged off the bed and pinned to the ground by several guards. Only then did she realize with horror that things had already deviated from the course of her previous life, and she was so frightened that her teeth chattered uncontrollably...
*
Wantan Island ferry terminal.
Zhou Jiuzhen, carrying his luggage, stood side by side with Ling Huanwu.
The two looked up at the shimmering sea, stunned by the breathtaking beauty of the azure sky and sea before them.
"Are you really willing to go to the island with me? Once you go in, you might not be able to come out for a month, and the living conditions on the island are very harsh. You're used to a good life..."
As the ship at the dock drew closer, Zhou Jiuzhen asked her again.
After all, many family members are unwilling to accompany the military, preferring to stay in the family compound on the mainland rather than have their husbands go to the island to participate in the construction.
Ling Huanwu didn't immediately grasp Zhou Jiuzhen's concept of harsh conditions.
Confident that she had endured hardship in the countryside for several years in her previous life, she considered herself very capable of enduring hardship. Without hesitation, she patted her bulging chest and answered him, "Don't underestimate me just because I was pampered as a child. I'm very good at enduring hardship!"
Zhou Jiuzhen awkwardly looked away from the spot where she was patting her chest, took a deep breath, and then strode onto the ship with his stiff and tense body.
The ship rocked and swayed all the way without stopping.
Ling Huanwu's mouth kept chattering non-stop.
A moment later, he pointed to the seagulls in the sky and happily greeted them.
One moment I'd be leaning on the railing, watching the fish swimming in the sea, and asking them where their homes were.
A little while later, he pulled aside the younger soldiers on the same ship and asked them if their families had arranged marriages for them.
With each additional word she spoke, Zhou Jiuzhen's face grew darker.
Ling Huanwu stopped talking, her lips pale, as the ship sailed into the deep sea, where it continued to rock violently even in calm weather.
Along the way, she vomited uncontrollably while holding the enamel chamber pot she had just bought before boarding the ship, and coughed repeatedly.
Despite the swaying of the ship, Zhou Jiuzhen went to the captain's cabin, fetched a cup of hot water, and handed it to Ling Huanwu. "Drink some quickly, we won't arrive until dark, don't get dehydrated."
When Ling Huanwu heard that they wouldn't arrive until evening, she almost cried, holding the hot water in her hands and shaking it back and forth.
After a three-day train journey to this small southern town, she didn't feel tired, but she never knew that traveling by boat would be so arduous and unbearable.
Finally, it got dark.
The ship gradually slowed down.
At this moment, Ling Huanwu was already gripping Zhou Jiuzhen's wrist tightly, her face completely pale.
A vast, dark coastline stretched out before us.
Only the tall lighthouse on the island stands not far away, indicating that there are still people on the island.
Ling Huanwu refused Zhou Jiuzhen's offer to hug her in front of his men, and, feeling dizzy, followed him off the boat.
After traversing vast stretches of desolate jungle, this group of military dependents finally arrived at the island, which was rumored to have extremely harsh conditions.
When Ling Huanwu saw the two rows of dilapidated stone houses in front of her, she almost fainted.
If you didn't know better, you'd think the place in front of you was a primitive tribe!
In remote mountainous areas like Zhoujia Village, the houses are all made of adobe, with wooden windows and a kitchen, and are divided into a main house and a hall.
But the stone house in front of them didn't even have windows, only a wooden door that could be opened and closed.
Ling Huanwu finally understood why Song Yaoyao had refused to come to the island with the army in her previous life.
"Greetings, Commander! Greetings, Commander's wife!"
The first group of guards who arrived on the island stood ramrod straight and saluted Zhou Jiuzhen and her before unlocking the door, entering the house, and lighting the kerosene lamp with a match.
Ling Huanwu entered the house with weak legs, and when she saw the situation inside, she was completely blind.
The room was practically bare, with only a lonely bed and a table inside.
By this time, she was so hungry that her stomach was growling loudly.
Zhou Jiuzhen took off his shirt and laid it on the sandy wooden plank. Bare-chested, he picked up a pile of firewood from inside the house and walked out. "Wait a moment, I'm going out to cook something."
The guard, Xiao Wang, gave Ling Huanwu a strange look, then turned and followed her out. He snatched the firewood from Zhou Jiuzhen's hand and said urgently, "Commander, how can you cook? Let me help you!"
