Chapter 28 The village chief arranges a marriage for her

"I cooked some oysters, you should try some..."

Ling Huanwu quickly looked away from him, got up, lifted the quilt on the table, and took out a pot of oyster vermicelli.

She opened the metal lid, and a fresh, delicious aroma filled the entire room.

Zhou Jiuzhen, who had just been feeling hot all over, suddenly turned cold and hard when he saw a pot full of oysters.

Where did you get so many oysters?

Zhou Jiuzhen's voice usually sounds calm and even, but it's rare to hear it so cold and sharp.

Ling Huanwu, unaware of the situation, didn't think much of it. She filled a large bowl and placed it in front of him, smiling as she said, "Try it! It's a pity there's no celery on the island, otherwise it would taste even better."

"Did you dig these oysters?"

"I'm not that fast; someone else gave it to me."

Zhou Jiuzhen didn't move upon hearing this, but kept his eyes fixed on the bowl of oysters. He suddenly raised his voice, "How can you take things from the people? If you want some, I can scoop out a whole bowl for you when I have time, but as soldiers, we can't take a single penny from the people, understand?"

Ling Huanwu's hand holding the chopsticks froze, unsure how to respond.

She has been waiting for him until now, without even eating, but he blames her for taking things from the farm.

Although she did indeed obtain these oysters through her tears.

But it's not a big deal, so why should he blame her?

Ling Huanwu pouted, about to retort.

The man before her stared sharply at her cheongsam and the pearls adorning her fair neck, his tone becoming increasingly reproachful, "You're not going to go to the oyster farm dressed like this today, are you? Do you want the whole island to know you're a capitalist's daughter?"

Ling Huanwu was completely stunned by the barrage of accusations.

Since becoming the wife of the richest man, she has never suffered such humiliation.

If she weren't outmatched by the man in front of her, she would have fought him to the death and scratched his chest muscles raw.

Ling Huanwu did not respond, but simply sat down quietly, picked up the whole bowl of oysters in front of him, and began to eat them by herself.

Sure enough, these fresh oysters tasted exceptionally delicious when cooked, even better than the large oysters she had eaten in the port city in her previous life.

"Splash! Splash! Splash!" "Slurp! Slurp!"

Ling Huanwu didn't even glance at Zhou Jiuzhen, and continued eating with great relish.

Zhou Jiuzhen didn't expect her to react this way.

He didn't want to scold her.

He would let her have her way in everything, but on matters of principle, soldiers and their families must never make mistakes.

When his gaze fell on Ling Huanwu's fingers, which had been chiseled in several places, his heart felt as if it had been violently ripped open, and he felt an excruciating pain.

He felt extremely guilty and sat down next to her, reaching out to take her injured little hand. However, Ling Huanwu seemed to be furious and turned to the other side with her bowl to continue eating.

"Huanwu, I'm sorry. I thought you went to collect the fruits of the villagers' labor. I didn't expect you to have dug up the oysters yourself."

For the first time, Zhou Jiuzhen froze as he reached for her clothes, his usually calm voice softening, "Wife, wife..."

Ling Huanwu continued to ignore him.

Although Zhou Shuyao's behavior in his previous life was not very reliable, at least he was good at talking and could provide her with emotional support.

They would compliment her on her clothes and her cooking, showering her with praise wherever she went.

Unlike this taciturn fellow, who can coax people like a block of wood.

finally.

It seems Zhou Jiuzhen couldn't hold back any longer and gave in.

"Baby……"

Zhou Jiuzhen's face turned red, and his voice trembled as if he had been burned by those two hot words.

Ling Huanwu still ignored him.

After finishing the last bite of oyster and sweet potato noodles in the bowl, he threw the bowl aside and went to the stove to get hot water to take a bath.

She actually wanted to take a bath together with me just now, it's absolutely hilarious.

After washing up behind the curtain, she took over the entire small bed and fell fast asleep, behaving herself quite temperamentally.

Zhou Jiuzhen was frustrated the whole time.

I'm annoyed that I called "baby" so horribly just now.

He ate the remaining oysters slowly, bite by bite, experiencing for the first time what it felt like to have someone cooking for him at home.

After washing the dishes, he gathered up Ling Huanwu's clothes and took them outside to wash them...

When Ling Huanwu got up, it was already broad daylight.

She hurriedly got up, thinking of going to the beach early to collect oyster shells and get the job of digging oysters as soon as possible, so as not to be looked down upon by Zhou Jiuzhen.

As soon as she got out of bed, she saw two steamed sweet potatoes and an egg on the table.

The stove and the ground outside were all cleaned up.

Even though she had complained a few times earlier that there were no windows in the room, the man actually dug a hole about the length of an arm in the middle of the night and installed two small wooden boards as windows.

For some reason, she felt a tightness in her chest.

It was as if it had been suddenly filled with something.

I was still scolding her last night, why am I doing all this this morning?

He was a regimental commander who was busy from dawn till dusk every day and still had to do housework. If his soldiers found out, how could he lead his troops to carry out construction in the future?

Ling Huanwu finished her breakfast with a forced smile, then slung a basket over her shoulder and headed out the door. She planned to go to the dock after work to see if any fishermen who had secretly crossed the commune line were willing to sell their fish, so she could make a fish soup for Zhou Jiuzhen that evening.

My mother-in-law said that Zhou Jiuzhen loves to eat fish.

Remembering Zhou Jiuzhen's criticism of her dressing up too much last night, she felt uneasy again, so she went back and picked out a lotus root pink cheongsam with lace and sequins that was even prettier than the one she wore yesterday.

After spending a few more minutes applying eyebrow and lip gloss, I finally left the house satisfied, carrying my basket.

Who says women have to dress in rags when they go out to work?
