Chapter 300 The Truth Revealed

A large pot of food is being distributed on the drying ground.

It turned out to be a whole bucket of fragrant braised pork trotters.

The villagers, holding bowls and queuing up, were full of curiosity, discussing among themselves, "Where did these pork knuckles come from? We didn't see any leaders from the city bring anything over yesterday!"

"Yeah, people from the city came yesterday. They were really shocked to see that everyone on our island was alright. They thought we were all in the belly of sharks, so why would they bring us food..."

Song Yaoyao listened silently to the villagers' discussions and also felt that these strange occurrences were related to Ling Huanwu.

Just last night, she secretly took advantage of the soldiers' shift change to go to the kitchen in the drying yard where the army temporarily stored grain, hoping to steal some food from the earthenware jars to store for her three children.

To their surprise, when they went inside and opened the earthenware jar, it was completely empty.

Just as she was about to leave empty-handed, she saw Ling Huanwu also sneak into the kitchen.

In a panic, she hid under the cupboard.

Then Ling Huanwu tiptoed up the earthenware jar, followed by the sound of objects hitting the jar.

Song Yaoyao was astonished. After everyone left, she opened the earthenware jar again and found it was full of food.

Fresh pork hocks filled the entire earthenware jar.

A whole row of earthenware jars, filled with rice, vegetables, and all kinds of fruits.

This food is enough to feed the island's residents for another three or four days.

Song Yaoyao was so shocked that her eyes almost popped out of the earthenware jar.

In just a few minutes, the empty earthenware jar was instantly filled after Ling Huanwu left.

If Ling Huanwu hadn't used some kind of sorcery, she would never believe that these things could appear out of thin air.

Song Yaoyao thought about it all night before she figured out some key points: Ling Huanwu must have something on her body that could hold the items.

Just as she was able to move all the dowry and empty the entire basement of the Ling family house overnight, she must have teleported all this rice and meat from some magical place now.

The thought that Ling Huanwu might have put all her assets into some magical space made Song Yaoyao incredibly excited.

While waiting in line, she pondered how to obtain that mysterious space from Ling Huanwu.

The triplets beside her tugged at her clothes and obediently lined up, each holding a small bowl.

Smelling the aroma of the pork knuckle, the three little ones wiped the drool from their lips and kept talking in their childish voices.

"Da Bao wants meat!"

"Erbao wants one too..."

Xiao Bao held his bowl high, his voice louder than his two older brothers, "Meat, all of it is Xiao Bao's! Xiao Bao gets the most meat, hee hee hee..."

Everyone watched the three little ones arguing, and they were all doubled over with laughter at their adorable appearance.

The triplets following behind in line all pouted, their faces full of disdain. "Three little gluttons, all they think about is eating all day long. What kind of future will they have!"

"That's right, and eating meat is the most important thing. Aunt Ling said that we need to study hard to succeed. The three of us are the top students in the class!"

These words were like sharp needles piercing Song Yaoyao's heart.

Aunt Liu originally wanted to go to the dock to see Ling Huanwu off, but she didn't know that the communal meals would be distributed starting at around 10 a.m. today, so she wanted to pack the food first before going to the dock.

She listened to the children bickering and showing off, but didn't think much of it. She simply reprimanded the three girls, "You can't talk to your younger brothers like that, they're still little..."

Before she could finish speaking, Song Yaoyao in front of her exploded, knocking the bowl out of the triplets' hands and yelling, "What's the use of your education? Just because the storm surge didn't drown you all, you think you'll amount to something? Let me tell you, no matter how much you jump around, it's useless. My sons will be academicians, lawyers, and big stars in the future. You'll never even get to know them in your entire lives..."

Song Yaoyao unleashed a torrent of abuse at the group, inadvertently including all the villagers present in her insults.

It's one thing to call them useless, but to call them bastards who will die young is something no one can tolerate.

The villagers stopped eating and rolled up their sleeves to surround Song Yaoyao, demanding an explanation and asking her who she meant by calling someone an early wretch.

Song Yaoyao then realized that she had just said the wrong thing, and the triplets were so frightened that they burst into tears.

Just then, a voice came from outside the crowd, like a ray of dawn shining on Song Yaoyao.

"Excuse me!"

Zhou Jiuzhen pushed through the crowd and walked towards the four of them, panting.

At that moment, Song Yaoyao's eyes inexplicably reddened.

She instinctively rushed over and grabbed Zhou Jiuzhen's hand, "Brother-in-law, Shuyao is gone. They're bullying us, a widow and her orphan, sob sob sob..."

She wiped away her tears as she spoke, crying so hard that it was like a pear blossom in the rain, her teeth clenched in anguish.

Recalling how Zhou Jiuzhen and Ling Huanwu ruthlessly ordered people to burn Zhou Shuyao's body, she felt an overwhelming hatred, wishing she could tear the two despicable people to pieces.

But now she can only rely on this brother-in-law, and it would be best to use her status as a widowed sister-in-law to bind him tightly and ruin his relationship with Zhou Jiuzhen.

Ignoring what the villagers thought, Song Yaoyao buried herself in Zhou Jiuzhen's arms.

Before she could even touch Zhou Jiuzhen, he grabbed her by the back of her collar, lifted her up, and threw her onto a cart.

Song Yaoyao felt dizzy and before she could react, Captain Sun handcuffed her hands.

"Comrade Song, we now have witnesses who testify that you are suspected of murdering the widower and his son. Please come with us to the city police station!"

Captain Sun's clear and articulate words were like a thunderclap in the crowd, exploding directly among them.

"My God, she killed the widowed father and son! I knew Comrade Ling was such a kind person, how could she kill someone..."

"I had almost forgotten about this. The widower Niu told me earlier that he wanted to remarry. I asked him which widow she was, and he said he could marry her after her husband died. Could that widow be this woman?"

"I thought this woman and her man had a great relationship, but it turns out she was cheating on him while he was still alive. And not only that, she even killed him!"

The villagers were gossiping. The triplets clearly felt the contemptuous gazes of the crowd on their mother. They kicked their little legs and rushed to their pale-faced mother on the cart, wailing, "Mom, don't go!"

"Mommy, I'm scared, boohoo..."

Only then did Song Yaoyao truly feel afraid. Looking at the three children who were not close to her before, now that their grandmother and father had passed away, she was the only family left by them, and they had to rely on her for survival. Now, their hearts and eyes were full of her, and she couldn't help but burst into tears.

She wanted to hug the three children, but the handcuffs prevented her from doing so, and she could only watch as the three children climbed onto the cart, hugged her, and cried uncontrollably.

She would never have imagined that someone as cold and ruthless as Zhao Jingxiang would actually turn himself in and confess his crimes in order to clear Ling Huanwu's name.

It wasn't until she was pulled off the cart and taken away by several police officers, and several children were carried away by several people, and she heard the children's cries slowly disappear, that Song Yaoyao realized that she was completely finished!
