Chapter 309 Agreeing to Divorce

The military doctor glared at Wang, the guard who was still standing there motionless, and roared, "What are you still standing there for? Quickly send a few more men to call your battalion commander back!"

Only then did Guard Wang seem to come to his senses, and he nodded and turned to leave.

Don't go!

Ling Huanwu called out to the guard Wang, who was about to leave, her voice calm and composed.

The military doctor and Guard Wang turned around in surprise and saw that Ling Huanwu seemed to have become a different person, her whole demeanor was unusually calm.

"Comrade Ling, it must be that Xiao Wang didn't pass on the good news. I'll go and call him over. Don't be angry, Jiu Zhen cares about you a lot. He even came over last night to ask me how to cure your insomnia..."

"Thank you, Dr. Guan, I'm fine! I'll head back now."

As she spoke, Ling Huanwu clutched her stomach and got out of bed.

Fresh blood slowly flowed from between her legs.

The military doctor's expression changed drastically. He quickly nudged the guard Wang beside her, trying to persuade her, "Comrade Ling, you should lie down immediately. You're already weak and showing signs of threatened miscarriage. You should lie down now. If you keep walking around like this, I'm afraid the baby..."

He kept trying to persuade her to lie down, but Ling Huanwu insisted on walking out while clutching her stomach.

No matter how the military doctor behind her called out, she never turned around.

It was pouring rain outside.

Guard Wang took an umbrella and held it over her as they walked back.

Halfway there, a figure blocked their way.

Ling Huanwu paused, looking at the woman in front of her with some surprise.

It turned out to be Su Haiting, who had just tried to commit suicide.

Su Haiting didn't even use an umbrella for shelter; in the dark rain, her face looked particularly sinister and twisted.

She glanced at Wang, the bodyguard standing next to Ling Huanwu, but suddenly changed her expression and said sincerely, "Little Wang, I'm afraid Comrade Ling will misunderstand your Battalion Commander Zhou, so I came to find her. Could you go and call Battalion Commander Zhou over?"

Guard Wang glanced at Ling Huanwu beside him, his expression questioning.

Ling Huanwu nodded, indicating with her eyes that he was alright. "Go and call him over. The three of us can talk things out!"

After hesitating for a moment, Guard Wang handed the umbrella to Ling Huanwu and finally left, turning back to look at her every few steps.

Su Haiting stood in the rain, the raindrops outlining her shapely figure, exuding a sickly arrogance and smugness.

She stared at the crimson blood staining Ling Huanwu's trousers, clutching her lower abdomen, laughing and crying at the same time. "Hahaha, Ling Huanwu, you've lost your child too, serves you right! I can't have children, so why can you? I'll make sure you can't have children for the rest of your life!"

Yesterday, the military doctor called the village midwife to check her wound. The midwife told her that she probably would never be able to have children again.

God knows how much she wanted to have a child with Zhou Jiuzhen.

But all of this is ruined!

If Ling Huanwu hadn't been so elusive and hadn't obediently allowed those five men to discipline her, she wouldn't have ended up in this situation.

She leaned close to Ling Huanwu's ear, her smile eerie, "Ling Huanwu, when Brother Zhou arrives, do you want to make a bet with me: will he save you first, or me first?"

Ling Huanwu clutched her lower abdomen, which was throbbing with pain, and fine beads of sweat rolled down her forehead.

She forced a smile and replied coldly, "No need for a bet. No matter who he saves, I don't want him anymore. When he comes over, I'll file for divorce..."

"Are you willing to get a divorce?"

A glint flashed in Su Haiting's eyes. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but her gaze turned to Ling Huanwu's back.

The next second, Su Haiting lunged at Ling Huanwu, shoved a knife into her hand, and before Ling Huanwu could react, she grabbed Ling Huanwu's hand and stabbed herself in the abdomen.

"ah……"

Su Haiting let out a scream, and her whole body slowly fell like a jasmine flower withering in the rain.

Immediately following was the sound of Zhou Jiuzhen's hurried footsteps approaching.

"Hai Ting!"

Zhou Jiuzhen bypassed Ling Huanwu, who was standing there stunned with a knife in her hand, and rushed forward to catch Su Haiting, who was about to fall, and pulled her into his arms.

"Haiting, what's wrong? You said you were going to the restroom, why did you end up here?"

He covered the wound on Su Haiting's lower abdomen, and the worry in his eyes seemed genuine.

Su Haiting let the rain wash over her, lying in Zhou Jiuzhen's arms with a bitter smile. "Brother Zhou, I was afraid that if you didn't go back, my sister-in-law would misunderstand, so I came to tell her you were busy tonight and not to misunderstand! Who knew she would call me a slut, say I'm so dirty, how can I still be alive? She said I'm a disgrace to my brother. I won't even have the face to see my brother in the afterlife, sob sob sob..."

Zhou Jiuzhen looked up and when he looked at Ling Huanwu again, all that was left in his eyes was disappointment.

"Ling Huanwu, what happened to you? Haiting came to you out of kindness, and you stabbed her! Xiao Wang, take her to the police station and hand her over to Captain Sun!"

After coldly giving his orders, he didn't even glance at Ling Huanwu, nor did he notice that Ling Huanwu's face was deathly pale and that blood was constantly gushing from her feet.

"The battalion commander is going too far! Sister-in-law, you're about to miscarry, and he won't even look at you. That means you're insignificant to him!"

The guard, Wang, was indignant and felt indignant on Ling Huanwu's behalf.

Ling Huanwu listened expressionlessly, seemingly unaffected by Zhou Jiuzhen's ruthlessness. When she looked at Guard Wang, the emotions in her eyes were unclear.

"Xiao Wang, can you do me a favor? Help me find a boat, I need to leave..."

A fleeting joy flashed in Wang's eyes, but he quickly turned to his worried expression and advised, "Sister-in-law, don't think too much. The battalion commander is only with Comrade Su to repay a debt of gratitude. He will definitely take good care of Comrade Su for the rest of his life to have peace of mind. However, you are still our sister-in-law."

It would have been better if she hadn't tried to persuade her; the more she tried, the uglier Ling Huanwu's expression became.

“You’re right. I’m pregnant with Jiuzhen’s child. I can’t leave. And even if I did, where could I go? You should take me to the police station and say that I deliberately stabbed Comrade Su. As long as Jiuzhen calms down…”

As Ling Huanwu spoke, her tears flowed more and more fiercely. She turned around, threw away her umbrella, and walked towards the police station.

The rain was getting heavier, obstructing her view.

There was no man behind him.

After a while.

Finally, hurried footsteps came from behind, splashing rainwater with each step. Just as Ling Huanwu was about to faint, the man behind her caught her steadily.

Before she fainted, she seemed to hear the man's hot breath whispering in her ear.

"You have nowhere to go, I'll take you..."

*

Inside the wooden shed.

Zhou Jiuzhen escorted Su Haiting to the tent and waited anxiously by the side as the military doctor bandaged her abdominal wound.

"Dr. Guan, is this injury alright? Is it life-threatening?"

Dr. Guan yawned, continuing to wrap the gauze around her hand. "It's a superficial wound, nothing to worry about. Did she do this herself?"

Zhou Jiuzhen awkwardly tugged at his lips and let out a long sigh, "No, it was Huanwu who did it. Luckily, it was just a superficial injury, otherwise I was really afraid she'd go to jail..."

"You're saying Comrade Ling did it? How could that be? She was just bleeding..."
