Ling Huanwu's heart pounded, and she subconsciously gripped the hem of her clothes.
“I don’t understand the intricacies of this, but I think it might be a breakthrough. Think about it again, try to look at it from a different angle, and maybe you can find clues about Jiu Zhen and the others.”
Political Commissar Hao looked on eagerly, full of expectation.
Ling Huanwu's mind raced as she listened to these words.
Suddenly, a bold conjecture flashed through her mind.
Could it be that Zhou Jiuzhen also has a personal space?
In a moment of crisis, he unleashed his potential, bringing everyone else into his personal space.
Perhaps he hadn't yet figured out how to open the space and get out, which is why he remained trapped inside, unable to return to the real world.
Thinking of this, a glimmer of hope instantly ignited in Ling Huanwu's eyes.
She didn't have time to say much to Political Commissar Hao, so she hurriedly said goodbye and rushed home. She closed the door tightly and her consciousness instantly sank into her personal space.
She searched every corner of this familiar yet mysterious space, hoping to find traces left by Zhou Jiuzhen or a switch connecting the two spaces.
Ling Huanwu emerged from her personal space once again, disappointed. It was already dark outside, and the kerosene lamp on the stove emitted a faint, dim light.
She slumped onto the bed, looking at her sleeping daughter, feeling utterly exhausted and lost.
These past few days, she has turned the space upside down, but she hasn't found a single clue about Zhou Jiuzhen.
Suddenly, a gust of wind howled past, making the paper windows rustle.
Ling Huanwu was afraid that the strong wind would wake Xiao Nianjiu and the triplets, so she brought her into the space as well.
I just brought the sleeping Xiao Nianjiu and the triplets into the space.
Ling Huanwu was drawn to the strange noise that suddenly came from the space.
Looking up, I was surprised to see ripples spreading across the once smooth entrance to the space.
Like a pebble thrown into a calm lake, ripples spread outwards in circles.
She was startled and suddenly realized that perhaps Xiao Nianjiu, as her and Zhou Jiuzhen's bloodline, was the switch to open the spatial barrier!
She stood up and slowly approached the strange fluctuation.
Before she could get closer to take a closer look, a blinding light suddenly shot out from the center of the ripples, causing her to instinctively close her eyes.
She had been searching the space for half a month, from the fields beside the spiritual spring to every wooden box in the storage room. Every inch of land her fingertips touched carried a cold disappointment, until that strange movement just now.
Her sixth sense told her that this must be the bridge connecting the two spaces.
The once stable spatial boundary suddenly tore open like a crumpled brocade, revealing a silvery crack.
A familiar yet unfamiliar scent crept in through the crack, instantly gripping her heart.
She placed her four sleeping children on the bed in the warehouse and stumbled towards the gap.
The moment my fingertips touched the cold light barrier, I was pulled inside by a tremendous force.
The next second, a flurry of maple leaves fell on her face, carrying the chill of late autumn.
Not far away.
A man wearing a military green jacket with worn-out cuffs was standing with his back to her, also tiptoeing and reaching out to touch the spatial rift.
She was all too familiar with that figure—the broad, straight back, even the habitual slight curl of the little finger on his left hand when he reached out—it was exactly the same as the person she had been longing for day and night.
“Nine shocks…” Her voice was hoarse, almost inaudible, as if it had been sanded with sandpaper.
The man's movements suddenly stopped.
He slowly turned around, his face still covered in dust.
A scabbed wound on the forehead extends from the brow bone to the temple.
That was the injury he sustained when he was hit by falling rocks while protecting his comrades before he disappeared.
The moment their eyes met, the whole world seemed to fall silent.
The only sounds were the rustling of the wind through the maple leaves and the increasingly loud heartbeats of the two people.
“Huanwu…”
Zhou Jiuzhen's voice trembled. He took a step forward, then suddenly stopped, as if afraid the person in front of him was an illusion. "Is it really you? Am I dreaming?"
Ling Huanwu could no longer hold back her tears, which fell like broken beads onto the fallen leaves.
She rushed over like a madwoman, threw herself into his arms, and gripped his military jacket tightly with both hands, her nails almost digging into her flesh.
"It's me, it's me!"
She buried her face in his chest and sobbed, "How did you manage to dig out your own space? I've been looking for you for so long, everyone said you might... might not be here anymore, but I didn't believe it. I came to the space every day to look for you, I knew you were still alive..."
Zhou Jiuzhen tightened his arms around her, pulling her into his embrace.
He rested his chin on the top of her head, his voice filled with suppressed sobs, "I'm here, I've always been here."
"When the crystal cave collapsed, I suddenly awakened my spatial ability and pulled the villagers and comrades inside. But once inside, I realized I couldn't find my way out. I was afraid you'd worry, afraid you'd think I..."
Before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Ling Huanwu's crying.
The two of them hugged each other and cried for a long time amidst the falling maple leaves.
It was as if she wanted to cry out all the longing, fear, and despair she had felt over the past few days.
"Battalion Commander, is that your wife?"
A young soldier walked over carrying a pile of freshly collected timber, followed by a dozen villagers.
There was an auntie who had just finished planting vegetables and was holding a hoe.
There were villagers carrying oversized pumpkins.
There were also a few young educated youth.
Everyone who saw Ling Huanwu had a shocked expression on their face.
After staying here for nearly two years, they finally saw "old friends" from their hometown, and tears immediately streamed down their faces.
Their eyes lit up.
