Chapter 80 We're Dating

"Comrade Zhou Shuyao, Comrade Song Yaoyao has accused you of being a spy. We found several letters you sent to Gangcheng in your room. The evidence is now conclusive. Please come with us!"

Two police officers pulled Zhou Shuyao toward the door.

Zhou Shuyao anxiously pointed at Song Yaoyao and loudly defended himself, "Comrade, she has wronged me. She framed me. You must believe me!"

Turning his head, he met Song Yaoyao's cold gaze. He felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

As he was pulled to the door, he clung to the doorframe, glancing at the bewildered Ling Huanwu, his eyes reddening. "Sister-in-law, be careful of this woman. Don't worry, I'll be out soon..."

Even after Zhou Shuyao's figure disappeared through the doorway, everyone was still unable to recover from the shock they had just experienced.

Qin Jinshen rolled his eyes in the direction he left, then turned to Ling Huanwu with a憨厚傻傻 (simple and honest) grin, "Comrade Ling, let's go, why don't you stay with us at the educated youth settlement!"

As he spoke, he diligently carried Ling Huanwu's luggage onto the cart.

At this moment, Ling Huanwu had no mind to move; she was preoccupied with whether Zhou Shuyao's arrest would affect Zhou Jiuzhen.

Ling Huanwu frowned, followed Qin Jinshen who was pulling the cart, and turned to leave without even glancing at her parents.

Meanwhile, Song Yaoyao watched as the man she had truly loved in this life was taken away, and her heart ached as she silently shed tears.

Zhou Jiuzhen wiped away her tears, took a deep breath, glared at Ling Huanwu, and prepared to retreat first. However, she found that Ling's parents were standing there blankly, staring at Ling Huanwu's back, seemingly lost in thought.

"Father, Mother, what are you doing? Come on, let's go home!"

Song Yaoyao tried her best to maintain her image as a good daughter and called out to the two of them softly. If it weren't for the fact that the couple had also been rescued by that mysterious person and still had some use to them, she would have kicked them away long ago.

Ling's parents turned to look at Song Yaoyao, their faces showing an unusual look of bewilderment and helplessness.

"Yaoyao, did we go too far in scolding your sister just now?"

A hint of guilt flashed across Ling's mother's face.

Ling's father chimed in, frowning as he said, "Yes, I felt your sister's expression was strange today."

“In the past, when we insulted your sister, she would cry, as if she was very sad. Today, when we said such nasty things, she seemed expressionless, treating us like strangers!”

Hearing the two elderly people's amusing worries, Song Yaoyao almost burst out laughing.

These two people insulted someone, yet they were actually afraid that the person they insulted would react indifferently.

"Mom and Dad, have you forgotten how my sister used to push me into the water and down the stairs when she was little, just to get your attention? I bet she did it this time to get your attention too, which is why she sent you to jail. She was ignoring you just now because she felt guilty!"

Song Yaoyao's words caused Ling's parents, who had initially felt somewhat guilty, to change their expressions again, reverting to their usual disappointed and disapproving demeanor towards Ling Huanwu.

The two cursed Ling Huanwu incessantly along the way, but in the end they still returned to the narrow and cramped stone house with Song Yaoyao.

On the very night they moved to the educated youth settlement.

Ling Huanwu was making the bed when she heard someone calling her from outside the door.

She remembered that she had invited her former childhood sweetheart and his second uncle over for dinner in the evening to express her gratitude, so she quickly dusted herself off and went to open the door.

"Coming, coming, I'll go cook right away..."

The door opened, and Ling Huanwu looked at the person standing in the doorway, her expression momentarily dazed.

She saw her husband, the regimental commander who was usually stern and never smiled, grinning at her from ear to ear, holding a bunch of rapeseed flowers in his hands. He stood at the door with a roguish grin.

"Comrade Ling, hello! My mother told me you were staying at the educated youth settlement, so I came here specifically to thank you!"

As Zhou Jiuzhen spoke, he shoved the rapeseed flowers into her hand and went inside.

He looked around the room, sniffed the musty smell, and frowned, saying, "The smell here is too strong. Ling Zhiqing, are you used to living here as a city person?"

"Of course, I'm not concerned about you; I'm just concerned about every educated youth here as a soldier."

He spoke with an air of superiority and self-assurance, leaving Ling Huanwu completely bewildered.

Wasn't it him who called over Guard Wang and ruthlessly ordered her to move out of the family compound? Why is he still concerned about her residence now?

Ling Huanwu looked the man up and down. He was still as tall as before, but the only difference was that his eyes were bright and clear, and his whole body exuded a youthful and vibrant aura.

Unlike the 23-year-old Zhou Jiuzhen, who was mature and seemed dull and taciturn as if he had experienced many storms, he was completely different.

He actually said such a long thing in one breath, something that Ling Huanwu would never have dared to imagine before.

Because even when Zhou Jiuzhen was in bed before, he would only moan softly like a shy little wife, and dared not make a sound at all.

Ling Huanwu poured herself a glass of water and took a big gulp to calm her nerves.

Holding the enamel mug, she thought to herself that Zhou Jiuzhen was now a guest coming to see her.

Guests are expected to be served water upon arrival.

But when she moved, she only brought an enamel mug, so she naturally handed the mug she had been drinking from to Zhou Jiuzhen, "Want some water?"

Zhou Jiuzhen glanced down at the enamel cup she had used, and as he slowly took it from her, his ears turned red again.

"What brings you here? You don't mean to..."

Ling Huanwu sat back on the bed, feeling a tightness in her chest as if it were stuffed with cotton.

In the few days since she returned, she heard that Zhou Jiuzhen would get angry whenever others mentioned his wife, jumping up and down and refuting that he had married a capitalist's daughter.

Now everyone on the island knows that Commander Zhou despises his current wife.
