Chapter 338 Difficult Childbirth
The atmosphere in the delivery room was somber on the day of the delivery.
Ling Huanwu lay on the delivery bed, her face as pale as paper, devoid of any color.
The birthing process was extremely difficult because she had taken a elixir that made her delicate and weak in this life, which already affected her fertility, and now she was having a difficult delivery.
The doctors were working busily and nervously, their foreheads covered in fine beads of sweat.
"Comrade Ling, wake up quickly! Push! Push!"
The doctor pressed on the woman's stomach while anxiously calling out, "The baby in your belly is beating too fast and is in danger of dying! Wake up!"
Outside the delivery room, Song Panmei paced anxiously, tears welling up in her eyes.
He couldn't help but sob uncontrollably, shouting into the delivery room, "Daniu, wake up! The baby can't live without you, you have to hold on!"
While unconscious, Ling Huanwu's mind was filled with memories of her time with Zhou Jiuzhen.
When she first saw him bathing by the river in the countryside, Zhou Jiuzhen looked up and met her gaze, his expression a mixture of seriousness and blushing feigned composure.
After arriving on the island, they walked hand in hand on the beach, their shadows stretching long.
He pulled her out of the flood and the cave time and time again, saying again and again, "Don't leave me."
But who would have thought that he would be the one to leave her first?
Beautiful memories from the past kept flashing through my mind.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through me.
Ling Huanwu felt the child's tenacious vitality.
That was her and Zhou Jiuzhen's child, a continuation of their love.
A powerful maternal love welled up in her heart, like a ray of light illuminating her dark world.
Ling Huanwu's fingers twitched, and she slowly opened her eyes.
Her gaze gradually cleared from confusion, and she used all her strength to follow the doctor's instructions.
"Keep going, you'll be out soon!" the doctor shouted excitedly.
The entire delivery room erupted in cheers as a newborn cried out loudly.
The doctors smiled with relief, while the nurses busied themselves recording the child's various indicators.
"It's a girl!" the nurse announced happily.
Upon hearing the crying, Song Panmei rushed inside. Seeing the weak but conscious Ling Huanwu and the healthy child, he burst into tears of joy.
He walked to Ling Huanwu's bedside and held her hand tightly. "Big girl, you did it! You're all safe and sound!"
Ling Huanwu looked at the child in her arms, tears blurring her vision, but a slight smile appeared on her lips.
She knew that although Zhou Jiuzhen was gone, their child would carry on with their love and live a good life.

When Ling Huanwu woke up, the cicadas were chirping noisily outside the window.
Her gaze slowly swept over the familiar yet unfamiliar furnishings of the room, her mind a complete blank.
He lay there for half a year.
The terrible explosion on the island was like a wound that would never heal, deeply etched in her memory.
In this life, she wants to save Zhou Jiuzhen.
But he completely disappeared in that explosion.
Even now, she still can't believe he's gone forever.
During her coma, she was constantly immersed in dreams, dreaming that Zhou Jiuzhen returned home that night.
In that small wooden shed, Zhou Jiuzhen ate the dishes she had cooked. She confessed her past to him, and he listened attentively before finally pulling her into his arms.
The two of them whispered sweet nothings to each other on the narrow little bed.
In her dream, she knew she was trapped in a falsehood, yet she refused to wake up and face it.
The only thing that sustained her subconsciously was her child with Zhou Jiuzhen.
Now that her child has been born, she feels as if her soul has been ripped out.
Song Panmei stood by the bedside, her eyes instantly reddening as she watched Ling Huanwu's dazed and lost expression.
"Big girl, you're finally awake."
His voice trembled slightly as he said, "You have no idea how worried we've been about you these past six months."
Ling Huanwu forced a pale smile. "Panmei, thank you. Where's the child?"
Song Panmei quickly took the child over.
Looking at the wrinkled little face in the swaddling clothes, Ling Huanwu burst into tears.
“Jiuzhen, can you see it, our child…” she murmured softly.
In the days that followed, Ling Huanwu gradually recovered.
But a thought in her mind grew stronger and stronger.
She wants to go back to the island.
That's where she and Zhou Jiuzhen lived, where their memories and their unfulfilled dreams reside.
After learning of her idea, Song Panmei tried her best to dissuade her.
"Girl, don't be foolish. The people on the island have gone mad. They think you're the one who caused them to lose their loved ones. If you take the child back, aren't you just asking for trouble?"
Ling Huanwu stubbornly shook her head.
“Jiu Zhen’s body was never found. I don’t believe he died like that.”
Looking back now, even with such a powerful explosion, how could they not have found a single piece of wreckage?
Furthermore, even though Zhou Jiuzhen was dead and Su Haiting had been arrested, she couldn't let him die with such a bad reputation, nor could she let his dream end in that explosion.
She wanted to change the fate of the islanders who had to move away, and she would dedicate her life to building up the island.
Song Panmei tried everything to persuade her, but to no avail, and could only sigh helplessly.
"You have to think about the child, she's so young, how can she suffer with you?"
"The island is where her father protected it, and it is also her home."
Ling Huanwu looked out the window with gentle eyes, "Whether Jiuzhen is dead or alive, I believe Jiuzhen also hopes that we can go back."
No matter what Song Panmei said, Ling Huanwu remained unmoved.
She began packing her bags, preparing to take her child back to the island.
Before returning to the island, she decided to visit Su Haiting in prison.
The atmosphere in the dimly lit visiting room was so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.
Su Haiting sat opposite her, looking gaunt, but her eyes held a hint of madness.
Ling Huanwu looked at her, her voice calm: "You clearly liked him so much, how could you be so heartless as to blow him up?"
Su Haiting suddenly burst into laughter, a particularly manic laugh that echoed in the small space. "If I can't have it, no one else can! What's wrong? Now you're a widow with a child, and you've become the laughingstock of the island. Not feeling good, are you?"
Ling Huanwu looked at her arrogant and smug face without panicking. She took out an admission notice from Gangcheng Girls' School from her bag and handed it to the female supporting character.
"Before the quartz mine was discovered, he begged me to help you get the opportunity to study and live in the port city."
"Actually, he has always treated you like a younger sister. After those things happened, he hoped that you could forget the past and start over in Hong Kong."
Su Haiting's laughter stopped abruptly. She stared in disbelief at the acceptance letter, her hand trembling as she reached out to take it.
She woke up overwhelmed with regret, curled up on the floor, trembling uncontrollably.
After a long while, she seemed to come to her senses and hugged the notice tightly to her chest, sobbing uncontrollably.
Seeing this, Ling Huanwu felt a mix of emotions. She didn't say anything more, got up, and left the visiting room.
