Chapter 54 Slapping the Face of Shameless Clan Members (1)

Chapter 54 Slapping the Face of Shameless Clan Members (1)

A dozen or so eggs, still warm and neatly arranged, were topped with several large black dollars and a gold ring.

Ling Huanwu picked up the ring and put it on her index finger; it fit perfectly.

With tears welling up in her eyes, she ran back to the stern of the boat and looked at the tiny, serpentine figure in military green on the dock. She opened her mouth as if to shout something, but found that her throat was choked up and she couldn't utter a single syllable.

This foolish man clearly knows she's rich, yet he gives her all his possessions. Isn't he afraid she'll run away?

After the ship docked and they took several buses to reach the city, Ling Huanwu immediately took Er Ya and San Ya to the hospital for treatment.

After careful questioning, the doctor concluded that the children on the island had a monotonous diet and were deficient in zinc, iron, vitamins, and other nutrients, which led to their pica and required long-term nutritional supplementation.

As for Er Ya's numbness in both feet, the doctor said it wasn't congenital and suggested she try acupuncture and massage, and eat more pig's trotters and pig's tails, which might help her stand up.

That day, she and Lin Xiaoqin returned to the guesthouse with the children.

No sooner had they entered than they unexpectedly bumped into Mr. and Mrs. Ling checking in at the front desk, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Ling's second and youngest uncles, who were walking with a shaky gait.

She was shocked; she never expected that even when they had no money, they would still chase her all the way here to ask for it!

Not wanting to reveal her location and cause trouble, Ling Huanwu hurriedly returned to her room and prepared to leave without even getting her deposit back.

To their surprise, just as they reached the back door, they bumped right into their second great-uncle's eldest grandson.

Ling Huanwu and her cousin stared at each other, unsure of what to do next, when her cousin grabbed her and dragged her into the street.

Her cousin was quite strong, and Ling Huanwu couldn't break free at all. She was dragged to the busy street by her cousin.

Lin Xiaoqin and the other children were extremely anxious and tried to scratch their cousin, but to no avail.

Ling Huanwu was thrown to the ground by him, her hands and feet scraping against the gravel on the street and drawing blood.

"Everyone, come quick! My shameless sister has run off with our family's money and eloped with some other man! Now our whole family is barely surviving. You all need to be the judge..."

My cousin has a very loud voice. As soon as he shouted, all the pedestrians who were going their separate ways gathered around and surrounded Ling Huanwu and her friends.

Ling Huanwu fell to the ground and her vision went black. When she came to her senses, she looked up and saw her father, mother, second uncle, and youngest uncle, who had also heard the commotion and squeezed in.

She met the gaze of her two biological parents, whom she hadn't seen for over a month. They showed no expression, simply looking down at her coldly, while her cousin publicly gossiped about whether he was slandering her.

“My youngest brother is only six years old, but she is heartless and won’t leave us a single coin. My brother is so hungry that he’s skin and bones and has fainted several times. Look at how well her own children eat and dress!”

The cousin pointed to Er Ya, San Ya, and Lin Xiaodi, who were each holding a candied hawthorn in the corner. His resentment was about to overflow, as if the three of them were really Ling Huanwu's children who had run off with all of his family's property.

Ling Huanwu clenched her bloodied palms in anger.

She never expected her cousin to make up such a ridiculous story. She had only taken her own family's property, yet he claimed that she had taken his family's property.

They even slandered Er Ya and San Ya as her children, which is simply spreading rumors and completely disregards her life or death.

Sure enough, the clueless passersby on the street all pointed at her with disdain and gossiped about her.

"My God, look at this young girl, she has three grown children. How young must she have been having an affair with a man and having children?!"

"This baby boy and girl don't look alike, could it be that they have different fathers..."

The young men's comments were vulgar and offensive, and their eyes were lewdly sizing up and down Ling Huanwu.

Lin Xiaoqin rushed to the people on the street to explain.

But they wouldn't listen; they only wanted to hear what they thought they believed.

Ling Huanwu tried to calm herself down and ignore the rumors around her. She grabbed Lin Xiaoqin and gestured for her to report the incident to the police.

Lin Xiaoqin nodded and quietly led the child through the crowd.

"Cousin, are you and your eldest sons begging on the street?"

Ling Huanwu slowly stood up and pointed at the few young men who had mocked her the loudest earlier, letting out a sneer.

The young men were so angry they jumped up and down, pointing at Ling Huanwu and cursing, "What nonsense are you talking about? How could we possibly have a father who is so young!"

Similarly, my cousin, who had just been so arrogant, retorted like a cat with its fur standing on end, "Are you blind? You're spreading rumors! I'm only ten years older than these kids, how could I be their father!"

"Oh, so you all know you're blind? I'm only a kid, about ten years old. How could you lie about me while you're blind?"

"Cousin, just because I didn't send living expenses to your family of able-bodied people this month, you're spreading rumors about me in public?"

Ling Huanwu raised her voice in the crowd and questioned him, immediately silencing her once arrogant cousin and making him blush.

Those around them suddenly realized what was happening, gasped, and felt a chill run down their spines.

"Yeah, this girl is so young, and her waist is so slim that she doesn't look like she's had three children. How could this man spread rumors about his own sister in the street?"

"What's with that girl saying she'd transfer living expenses to her cousin's family? Does that mean the whole family is going to expect her to support them?"

The words spoken by those around them were like sharp knives, cutting into the faces of the second uncle and his companions, making them too ashamed to show their faces.

“We don’t need her to support us. That’s the family property left to us by our ancestors; it’s rightfully ours…”

Second Uncle, still stubbornly trying to argue, was met with Ling Huanwu's retort, "Yours? Do you really need to slander me in the street to get attention and force me to give you living expenses?"

“When my grandfather was alive, you begged him for a living. Now that you’re still greedy, you’re even eyeing his property. You’re all parasites!”

Then she looked at Ling's parents, who were glaring at her with utter disappointment, and said, "You're parasites too. Without Grandpa's wealth, you'll only be able to beg on the streets with them!"

These extremely harsh words were like a bombshell, directly enraging Ling's father, mother, and two uncles.

The second uncle was so angry at the word "parasite" that his hands and feet trembled, and he raised his hand and slapped Ling Huanwu.

Ling Huanwu had been waiting for this slap.

She pretended to be slapped to the ground, her forehead hitting the wall behind her.

Ling's parents were furious. Being called a parasite by their own daughter pointing at their foreheads was an utter disgrace.

The group surrounded Ling Huanwu and began punching and kicking her.

Ling Huanwu held her head and, taking advantage of a corner where no one could see, crushed a bag of uncongealed pig's blood that she had just bought to nourish her child and applied it to her forehead.

She breathed a sigh of relief when she caught a glimpse of Lin Xiaoqin rushing back with the children, followed by several police officers.

"The police are here! Make way!"

Ling Huanwu watched as her father kicked her on the back of the head, making her head spin and her heart grow cold and numb.

Upon hearing that the police had arrived, they reluctantly withdrew their foot and forced a smile at the officers, saying, "This is a family matter. Our younger generation was gossiping about our elders in the street, and we only hit them in a fit of anger."

“Yeah, officer, didn’t you hear what this girl was saying about us? We just gave her a few light taps, it’s nothing…”

They only panicked when Ling Huanwu got up from the ground and faced the police with her face covered in blood.

"I didn't hit him!"

"It wasn't me either!"

"It wasn't me either!"

The second uncle, the youngest uncle, and the cousin all waved their hands, denying it.

But the eyes of the masses are discerning.

They all pointed to the five men, and their conflicting accounts confirmed that they were the ones who had attacked them.

The police officers warned them with stern faces and made a move to take the five of them away.

Ling's parents didn't seem to think they had done anything wrong, and jumped in to defend her, saying, "It was this girl's fault to begin with. How could she make up stories about Uncle and us being parasites? She made up stories about us begging from her. As her elders, we should give her a beating!"

Those around them agreed that it made sense, since they couldn't all believe a young girl without any evidence.

How could a large family ask a single girl for money to live on?

Seeing that they were still stubbornly denying it, Ling Huanwu sneered and said to the police officer in a serious tone, "Officer, I have evidence to prove that what I just said is not a lie! They are all parasites who live by sucking my grandfather's blood!"

Upon hearing this, the second uncle and the youngest uncle's expressions changed drastically, and they were filled with panic. What evidence did Ling Huanwu have?
