Chapter 343: Someone from the Jail
Until Wanxiang pushed the door open and brought hot tea and snacks.
"This servant thought that it was very cold at night, and hot tea could help to dispel the cold. The young lady had not eaten much all day, so it would be good to have some snacks to fill her stomach."
Pei Ji frowned, "Why aren't you eating?"
"I can't eat it. I'm worried about it."
"You're playing into their hands by doing this. Wanxiang, go make your family a bowl of chicken noodle soup. I'll stay here with her until she finishes it before we leave."
"Then, Master Pei, why don't you use some together?"
Pei Ji nodded, "Alright."
Wanxiang left with a smile.
"You are a good maid." Pei Ji rarely spoke.
Song Ci was a little surprised, "This is the first time I hear you praise someone."
"Am I so mean in your eyes?"
"Not really. You seem to be very cold to the people down there."
"When I'm out there, I have to obey orders. If I get too close to people, they'll look down on me and even disobey my orders."
Both of them have their own way of doing things and being a person. Song Ci nodded, "Yes, you have your way, and I have mine."
"The people around you are very loyal to you."
"Otherwise you can't stay with me. Intelligence isn't the most important thing; loyalty is what matters."
Pei Ji smiled, and the two of them talked and laughed. Wanxiang soon returned to the yard with the chicken soup noodles. Looking at the hot noodles and the rich aroma, Song Ci suddenly felt a little hungry.
She picked up her chopsticks and ate while looking at Pei Ji.
Pei Ji ate politely but not slowly. He glanced at Song Ci and asked, "What are you looking at?"
"nothing."
"Eat quickly, if it's not enough, add something else."
Song Ci looked at the half-full bowl of noodles and thought, how could it not be enough? This was much more than she usually ate, and she didn't have a good appetite.
She glanced at Wanxiang and found that she turned away with a guilty look, so she knew that the portion was intentional. However, Song Ci didn't mind it, and Wanxiang was just taking the opportunity to let her eat more.
Finally, she ate most of the bowl of noodles, washed it with hot water, and Pei Ji stood up to say goodbye.
The night enveloped his equally black cloak, and Song Ci suddenly realized that he seemed to be particularly suited to black.
"Go back soon and get some rest. Don't worry about your brother."
"Thank you for helping my brother and me."
Pei Ji smiled, "You and I are the same. I've said before that your business will be my business in the future."
Song Ci nodded and smiled happily.
Not long after, she packed her things and went to the Yin family's door. The people in the Yin family were not surprised. Mrs. Yin asked Song Ci to sit in the main courtyard. She had a thick layer of powder on her face, but it couldn't hide her tiredness.
"Miss Song, have some tea."
Song Ci picked it up and took a sip before explaining the purpose of his visit today.
"I came here today because of the matter between Master Yin and my brother."
Madam Yin smiled helplessly, "Since Miss Song is willing to come, she must think that my son is innocent."
"The Yin family has a clean reputation. I believe Young Master Yin would never do something like this. From the beginning to the end, this is an attempt to drag both my brother and Young Master Yin into this mess."
Madam Yin took out a handkerchief and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. "I'm sorry, Miss Song, I lost my composure. It's just that the thought of my son still being imprisoned makes me feel so sad."
"Mrs. Yin, don't worry. The innocent will be innocent." Song Ci said.
"You're right. Since Miss Song is here, is there anything you need our help with?"
"There is something. I want Madam Yin to show me some of Master Yin's handwriting."
Without hesitation, she got up, quickly entered the yard, and quickly came out.
"Here it is. My son wrote it just before entering the palace. If Miss Song thinks it is useful or can help, please take it."
"good."
The ink on the paper was fresh, and Song Ci took a look and put it away.
"Miss Song, are you sure?" She looked nervous, and her eyes were full of hope when she looked at Song Ci.
Song Ci: "I'll do my best. If the Yin family has any news, they can come to the Song family to find me."
On the return carriage, Song Ci repeatedly compared the two handwritings. At first glance, they did look like the notes of the same person.
"This handwriting clearly looks like it was written by one person." Tian'er leaned over to take a look and clicked her tongue.
"Let's go back first. I'll take another look. Since he didn't do it, I'll naturally be able to find some clues."
At night, Song Ci carefully opened the box under the candlelight and said at last.
"I found the difference."
"Miss, what's the difference?"
"If my guess is correct, Master Yin must have been feeling unwell recently."
"Why do you say that, Miss?" Tian'er said.
Song Ci pointed at the word "Ye" on the paper and said, "Look at this word "Ye" and compare it with the words on this piece of paper. Do you see any difference?"
The two of them leaned over and took a closer look. Finally, Tian'er pointed out, "The lower dot on the left side of the character 冶 seems a little different."
"Exactly. His previous handwriting, the word 'Ye', was very smooth and flowing. But the one he wrote before entering the palace, the bottom of the word 'Ye' was obviously filled in. The handwriting on the note is the same as before."
Tian'er was surprised. "Miss, what you mean is that this note was written by someone else, and this person didn't know that Master Yin was unwell."
"Yes."
"Then let's tell Master Pei right away! With this evidence, we can prove it wasn't Master Yin!"
"But this alone is not enough. It only proves that it wasn't written by Master Yin. My brother hasn't been cleared of suspicion yet. They can still use this as a pretext to claim that my brother wrote it himself, imitating the handwriting, and framing Master Yin."
Tian'er looked dejected, and Wanxiang was also a little disappointed.
"If this doesn't work, then what should we do? This is all the evidence we can find now."
"Wait!" Song Ci said, "If the two of them insist that they didn't do it, the matter will be shelved. There is no way to convict them without solid evidence, unless..."
She pondered for a second, then stood up suddenly with an extremely serious expression.
Wanxiang and Tian'er were startled and hurriedly asked her what she was thinking about.
"Unless one of them dies in prison, then those people can be said to have committed suicide out of fear of punishment, and the case will be at a dead end. By then, there will be no way to overturn the verdict, and the court will not use a suspect. No matter who the remaining people are, their future will be ruined."
"What a vicious plan!" Tian'er felt horrified.
"I'm going to Pei's house."
...
At night, in the prison.
Song Lan was dressed in rags, but his face was not ugly and he was full of energy. When he heard footsteps coming towards him, he immediately opened his eyes alertly.
Soon a man dressed as a eunuch came up and spoke in a shrill voice with malicious intent.
"Song Lan, get up."
"Who are you."
The eunuch in front of him raised a dust cloud and said, "Your family spent money to let us take care of you. Look, we've brought you food."
