Chapter 61: Foul Mouth, Deserve a Punishment
Shang Wan looked over when he heard the sound. He was so talkative that he needed to be buried in a secluded place.
A group of students wearing blue gowns and Confucian scarves walked in from the door of the woodworking workshop.
The man in the lead was quite tall and slightly fat, with a square face, thick eyebrows, small eyes, and slightly thick lips. He looked to be around twenty years old, and the words just now came from his mouth.
"Sister, his name is Yan Rui, he is Mr. Qiao's cousin. He and my brother-in-law didn't get along when they were in the county school."
Shitou came over and whispered to Shang Wan about it.
"One time, he forced my brother-in-law to compete with him in a game of pot-throwing. The loser had to drink. My brother-in-law, despite being ill, fought him. Yan Rui cheated halfway through, and although my brother-in-law won in the end, he was forced to drink a lot of wine. He went home and developed a high fever. If the doctor hadn't come quickly, he would have almost died."
Shi Tou still feels scared when he talks about it.
Lu Chengjing was only fifteen at that time. Young people cannot stand provocation and accidentally fell into Yan Rui's trap, suffering a great loss.
Shang Wan's eyes dimmed slightly. The original owner did not remember this incident. It either happened before the original owner married Lu Chengjing, or it was in those blank memory fragments.
Yan Rui raised his chin proudly and looked at people with his nose up. "Lu Chengjing, weren't you quite talkative before? How come after your leg was broken, your mouth has also become mute?"
Lu Chengjing lazily raised his eyelids, "Yan Xuan, have you finished copying it three hundred times?"
"Don't be so proud!" Yan Rui's expression changed instantly. "You only won me by chance once. You won't have a chance again. What a rubbish article you have, do you think I should copy it?"
Shitou corrected him, "It's not once, it's seven hundred and thirty-six times."
In terms of writing and composing poetry, Yan Rui lost to Lu Chengjing a total of 736 times, and each time made Yan Rui so angry that he wanted to vomit blood.
Ever since Lu Chengjing entered the county school, no matter whether it was a big test or a small test, his scores were always better than Yan Rui's, and the teachers' praise also changed from Yan Rui to Lu Chengjing.
Yan Rui wanted to chew up and swallow this hypocritical bitch Lu Chengjing, and never see Lu Chengjing's disgusting face again!
"Brother Yan, why are you wasting your breath on a useless person like him?" A student stepped forward and glanced at Lu Chengjing with contempt. "His tendons are broken, and he will never be able to hold a pen again. How can he compare with you, Brother Yan?"
"That's right," a student echoed, "He's a useless person who was kicked out of the family. Talking to him is an insult to our status."
One student scoffed, "Isn't it just because of his good looks that he always looks down on others? Now that his arms and legs are broken, what good does his good looks matter?"
"Brother Qin, you are wrong," a student said, a meaningful look sweeping across Lu Chengjing's face. "With just this face, there is a good place to go. I heard that Nanfeng..."
Before he could finish his words, the student was kicked backward by Shang Wan, curled up on the ground, and screamed in pain.
Yan Rui looked at Shang Wan's face, a flash of surprise in his eyes, then he remembered the classmate who was kicked out, and his face darkened and he shouted at Shang Wan, "How dare you hurt someone in broad daylight?"
"You're foul-mouthed, you deserve a beating." Shang Wan glanced coldly at the students, "You can be sarcastic or act like a sourpuss, I don't want to argue with you, but..."
"He," Shang Wan pointed at the student who was being helped up by the student surnamed Tan, "has a filthy mind and spews shit all over his mouth. It's truly disgusting! You call yourselves scholars, yet your fellow students have such vulgar and filthy people. Have you read the sages' books and turned them into dogs?"
Yan Rui sneered, "How can a mere woman, ignorant and incompetent, understand what a sage's book is? Lu Chengjing, you can't even manage your own woman. I look down on you."
"My wife is very good." Lu Chengjing looked at Yan Rui coldly, "To my wife, you should respect her, love her, be humble and trust her, and be polite to her. My wife is not a slave, so why should I discipline her? Besides, this is a family matter, what does it have to do with you?"
"If you allow the women in your family to hurt people in the street, and you don't do anything about it, the government will take care of it." Malice flashed in Yan Rui's eyes, and he raised his hand to send someone to report to the police.
"Report to the police immediately, the sooner the better."
Shang Wan folded her arms, staring at Yan Rui's face, which did not meet her aesthetic standards in any way, and curled her lips in disgust.
"It's just right to call all the teachers from the county school here so I can ask them for advice. The students in the county school are all like you, speaking ill of others. They are all unfilial and unkind to each other!"
"When have we ever been unfilial and unfaithful to our elder brothers?"
Shang Wan pointed at Yan Rui and asked the students, "Do you agree with what he just said?"
All the students nodded. Isn't the woman ignorant?
"You are just a mere woman, ignorant and incompetent," Shang Wan repeated, coldly questioning everyone, "Do you have a mother at home? Do you have sisters? You insulted your mother and sisters in public, spoke ill of them, and are unfilial and unbrotherly. How have I wronged you?"
"You, you are making excuses!"
"That's not what we mean."
"Stop talking nonsense!"
Shang Wan ignored their flushed cheeks and called out to Lu Chengjing, "Sir, how will the teachers at the county school punish such unfilial people?"
Lu Chengjing was startled by Shang Wan's call; this was the first time Shang Wan had called him "husband" to his face. But he quickly recovered and said in a slightly cold voice, "Those with official titles will have their titles revoked after reporting. Those without official titles will be expelled from the academy and disqualified from taking the imperial examinations."
Shang Wan: She just said that casually, why are the consequences so serious?
After hearing what Lu Chengjing said, the students panicked and tried to persuade Yan Rui to forget about it and not to bother with Shang Wan, a woman. Even the one who had just been beaten tried to persuade him, fearing he would be expelled from the county school.
Yan Rui said anxiously, "Lu Chengjing is just exaggerating. Don't be fooled by him! If the Master really comes, I will explain to him."
The students were a little moved when they heard this. Lu Chengjing's voice sounded at the right time, "I haven't seen you for a few days. I have a question for you."
The students' eagerness to move immediately subsided.
If the teacher had to choose between trusting Yan Rui and Lu Chengjing, he would most likely choose Lu Chengjing. They should not gamble their future on him.
"Brother Yan, forget it."
"Let's go, the banquet will start soon."
"Yes, Brother Yun still needs to see a doctor."
The students all talked at once to persuade Yan Rui, and Yan Rui was so angry that he clenched his fists and cursed him as an idiot in his heart. How could he be frightened by Lu Chengjing's words?
He glared at Lu Chengjing fiercely, then left in anger, surrounded by the students.
Lu Chengjing suddenly called out to him, "Yan Xuan, I have something to tell you."
Yan Rui turned his head and stared at Lu Chengjing vigilantly. What bad shit was this guy planning?
"The teacher gave you an A for your essay in the last quiz."
Yan Rui frowned and said impatiently: "What do you want to say?"
Lu Chengjing raised the corners of his lips slightly, and looked at Yan Rui with a hint of pity.
Yan Rui suddenly had a bad feeling.
