Chapter 8 Burnt Brain

Chapter 8 Burnt Brain

In Dongning County, candlelight flickered in the county jail, and four guards were patrolling in two shifts.

It was already past midnight, and the yamen runners could no longer resist the sleepiness. After their last patrol, they all fell asleep on the table, snoring loudly.

A gust of wind blew by, and the key chain hanging on the wall made a few crisp sounds as it collided with each other, and then ran into the depths of the prison together with a green shadow.

In the last cell, the oil lamp on the table had long been extinguished, and only some light came through a half-foot window on the wall, shining on the straw mat below.

A thin blanket fell aside, and a thin figure lay on the straw mat, with messy black hair draped over the back, and the thin body shivered uncontrollably because of the cold spring night.

Shang Wan stood at the prison door and watched for a long time. Although she couldn't see the face, just looking at the figure, she thought that the person inside should be her cheap husband, right?

She used the key she had found to open the cell door and went in. The curled up figure suddenly stopped shaking when he heard the noise, but did not turn around.

"Come and talk if you're not asleep. I have something to ask you." Shang Wan put the key on the table and leaned on the table with his arms folded.

Hearing this familiar voice, Lu Chengjing suddenly opened his tightly closed eyes. Why was it her?

He propped himself up and sat up, turning his head to look at the person standing by the table in the moonlight, his eyes unable to hide his surprise, "How did you get in?"

"Of course he walked in." Shang Wan looked at the person on the straw mat. Although the cell was dim, it did not prevent her from seeing Lu Chengjing's good looks.

He had beautiful eyes, piercing the lacquer, and a perfectly shaped nose and mouth. His face was a little dirty, and his hair was a mess, but it couldn't hide his elegance.

This kind of appearance is commonly known as looking good even wearing a sack.

She was just a little thinner, her lips were a little paler, and her cheeks had a strange red hue.

Shang Wan frowned slightly. In the original owner's memory, Lu Chengjing was a premature baby and had been weak since childhood. Is he sick?

"Why don't you cover yourself with a blanket if you're cold?" She walked over and picked up the thin blanket beside the straw mat. A sour and smell immediately rushed into her nose.

She ignored the unpleasant smell and wrapped the thin blanket around Lu Chengjing. She then sat down on the edge of the straw mat and looked at her cheap husband more closely.

If you ignore the smell, it actually looks better when you look at it up close, and it's also very pleasing to the eye even if you keep it as a vase at home, not to mention that it has the title of scholar, which can bring a lot of benefits to the family.

Shang·Yekong·Wan felt like he had gotten a great bargain, and a genuine smile appeared on his lips.

Lu Chengjing felt a little uncomfortable under Shang Wan's blunt gaze. He turned his head slightly and pursed his pale lips. Just as he was about to say something, a slightly cool hand suddenly landed on his burning forehead, and a whisper came into his ear, "You really have a fever."

Shang Wan's white fingers moved down to the tip of his nose and found that even the breath he exhaled was hot.

No wonder he didn't cover himself with a blanket and shivered to keep warm. It turned out that his brain was damaged.

After tucking the thin blanket around him tighter, Shang Wan stood up, opened the cell door and went out.

Lu Chengjing looked at her back as she left, his eyelashes half drooping, and he felt a little lost for no reason.

After a while, Shang Wan came back with half a bowl of water and fed it to his pale lips, "Drink it."

Lu Chengjing was surprised that she didn't leave. He raised his eyelids to look at her, stretched out his left hand to take it, and drank it slowly.

Wow, isn't he quite well behaved? How could he be as aloof as the original owner remembered?

Shang Wan rubbed her cheap husband's messy long hair with satisfaction. It didn't feel good, but she was quite happy touching it.

She just added three drops of spiritual spring water to the water. Drinking this bowl of water will definitely help reduce the fever.

After Lu Chengjing finished drinking, Shang Wan took the bowl and stared at him, "What's wrong with your right hand?"

From the moment on, whether it was sitting up from the straw mat, holding the quilt, or receiving the bowl, Lu Chengjing used his left hand. However, in the original owner's memory, he was not left-handed.

"My tendons are broken." Lu Chengjing said it lightly, but Shang Wan did not miss the sadness that flashed across his eyes.

The right hand is very important to a scholar. If the tendons are broken, the hand will be useless.

She narrowed her eyes, a nameless anger rising in her heart, "Who did it?"

Lu Chengjing lowered his eyelashes and did not answer.

Shang Wan clenched his fists, suppressed his anger, lifted the thin blanket wrapped around Lu Chengjing, pressed him down on the bed, and examined him inch by inch starting from the scalp.

"What are you doing?" Lu Chengjing wanted to push the person away, but Shang Wan's strength was beyond his imagination and he couldn't push him away at all. In shame and anger, his face, which had slightly faded in blush, suddenly became brighter than the sunset in the sky.

"Behave yourself." Shang Wan gave him a warning look, her white fingers gently stroking the whip wound on his chest that was still bleeding, and a cold murderous intent flashed in her eyes.

Lu Chengjing saw it inadvertently, paused in his action of pushing the person, and blurted out, "You are not Shang Wan."

Shang Wan is timid and selfish. He has no opinion and can only cry when encountering problems. He is the wife chosen for him "carefully" by his good sister-in-law. How could she have such a captivating look?

"I am." But not the original one.

Shang Wan let go of him and glanced at his legs hidden under his trousers, which were unable to move. His anger grew even more.

"Who are you?" Lu Chengjing struggled to sit up, his eyes wandering over Shang Wan's face. "Shang Wan can't possibly break into the prison at night for me. He doesn't have the ability to do that."

Shang Wan looked at him. Did his IQ regain its upper hand after the fever subsided?

Tsk, you were more well behaved just now.

"I'll only say this once, listen carefully," Shang Wan leaned forward, their eyes meeting. "I am Shang Wan."

"You..." Lu Chengjing retorted subconsciously. Shang Wan glanced at his pale lips and said, "Kiss you again."

Lu Chengjing: “…” Rogue!

He quickly shut his mouth tightly.

"That's good." Shang Wan patted his head with satisfaction. "You can tell me who did it later. We don't have much time, so let's cut to the chase. How about jailbreaking?"

She didn't want to let her injured vase stay in this terrible prison any longer.

"No." Lu Chengjing retorted without thinking, "Jailbreak will only confirm my guilt, and a harsh sentence will also bring trouble to my family."

Shang Wan curled her lips. The Lu family was afraid of being implicated.

"I forgot to tell you that the Lu family expelled the three of us from the clan overnight. We were kicked out of the house."

"What?" Lu Chengjing's pupils suddenly shrank, his left hand clenched into a fist, and even his breathing became heavier.

"You're still sick. There's no need to get angry over people who have nothing to do with you." Shang Wan spread out the five fingers of his left hand one by one, thinking that this hand had even bones and flesh, and the fingers were long and beautiful, as handsome as her cheap husband's face.

Lu Chengjing felt an unfamiliar kneading sensation on his fingers, and he didn't care about being angry or disappointed. He pulled his hand back in shock, and stared at the woman beside him with his dark eyes warily, with a hint of annoyance on his handsome face.

How could a woman hold onto a man's hand and not let go? Acting so outrageously, this woman definitely wasn't Shang Wan!

Shang Wan blinked innocently. She was just admiring the pretty hands and pinched them twice. Why did her cheap husband look like she was forcing herself on him?

I already have a baby with the original owner, so what’s the big deal?
