Awakening

Awakening

He couldn't say how long he had been asleep, but this time he was certain that he was asleep, not drowning.

Occasionally, a cool sensation would slide across his face, and he felt his body growing increasingly hot.

He didn't sleep too badly; whenever he felt his throat was dry, water would always be available to moisten it.

He gripped the wrist that was resting on his chest tightly.

“Go back to the base, back to Yangguang, there’s my Shadow Crossing… You take the rail network…” he murmured, unsure how much the other person heard.

The man tried to pull his wrist back, but he tightened his grip, holding it firmly against his chest.

"Yang Guang will take care of everything... Don't worry about me..."

With his other hand, he covered the back of his hand and slowly pried his fingers apart.

Yes, he was telling me to leave, so why was he holding on so tightly...?

Gu Yan did not continue to stop the other person's actions, but he did not let go either, allowing the other person to gradually withdraw.

Is it because of resentment?

The other person fed him more water, and his temperature dropped noticeably. In a daze, the face he had seen countless times calmed him down.

He no longer asked her to leave, and even looked forward to her next appearance.

Maybe this is all just a dream.

When Gu Yan opened his eyes again, he stared blankly at the stone wall. It was cold and deserted, without a trace of warmth.

Just as he was thinking this, a source of heat approached him. He heard someone breathing heavily beside him, and with difficulty, he turned his face away, feeling his breath catch in his throat for a moment.

It was that Arabian wolf; he couldn't be mistaken.

Its rough tongue lolled out, as if it were deliberately breathing loudly to frighten Gu Yan. Its grayish-brown fur had darkened somewhat, perhaps due to the dim lighting in the cave.

Gu Yan tried to lean back, attempting to get away from the beast.

It's almost upon us. What's next? Will it open its gaping maw and make him its dinner?

A noise came from the end of the cave passage, attracting the attention of the wolf, which pricked up its ears to listen carefully.

A series of footsteps approached slowly, and Ella Zero appeared in front of Gu Yan carrying a water pouch.

"Awake? It's about time."

Her hand pressed against his right chest, and Gu Yan realized that he was wrapped in thick bandages, making it difficult for him to even move.

"The supply station has plenty of supplies, and your fever is going down quickly." It was clearly not time to change the dressing yet, and Ella Zero opened the water bag and handed it to him.

Gu Yan was still unable to move, so she patted her head and said, "Oh, I'll do it. I thought you could drink it by yourself now that you're awake."

Cool fingers supported the back of his neck, and a tingling sensation traveled all the way to the back of his tongue.

He swallowed hard, letting Ella do as she pleased.

"Wooden house..."

Ella didn't even turn her head: "You still have the mind to care about this?"

What time is it now?

"You were shot and have been unconscious for three days."

"and you……"

"I can only come back with you on my back."

Gu Yan then blinked and observed the surrounding environment.

They were still in the cave, but it was no longer where they had stayed before.

"It's not safe here."

Ella Zero replied casually, "No, if you're worried about a landslide, it's already happened."

"..."

"I was curious why you didn't want to go inside anymore. Now I know. You could have reminded me sooner."

"Are you injured?" Gu Yan's tone held a hint of nervousness that he himself was unaware of.

"No, I was just caught off guard and got a fright." Her tone didn't sound like she had been frightened. "But thankfully, those people can't catch up with us."

"Hmm." He relaxed, lay back down, and watched Ella Zero's movements, letting his mind wander freely.

It took several calls from Ella Zero for his gaze to refocus.

What did you call me?

The question was strange, and Ella Zero frowned.

"Gu. What's wrong?"

"nothing."

Ella Zero has been staying by his side for the past three days and hasn't gone to the cabin.

He felt a little strange when he learned about this, though he couldn't quite put his finger on why.

"Don't worry about me, you should go if you have something important to do."

"That's what I wanted to tell you. Your fever has gone down, and I'm leaving tomorrow. You don't need to come with me. I'll contact Yang Guang and have him come and take you back."

Ella Zero came over to check his forehead temperature, but he grabbed her hand, and the two remained locked in a stalemate.

"Have you been going back and forth between here and the supply station these past few days? Why?"

"Why?" Ella Zero didn't quite understand his question, and even forgot to pull her hand back.

"After all, they are human beings traveling with me. It would be very troublesome if something happened to them."

She thought about it carefully and came to this answer.

“That makes sense too.” Gu Yan slumped down and let go.

She is not an android, but what others do not know is that the "Android Code" of this world is binding on her.

"If you can move, I'll carry you to the supply station to take a shower?"

For the past three days, she could only give people a quick and simple wipe down; she thought that taking a bath would make her feel more refreshed.

Gu Yan shook his head and turned to rest.

He didn't say another word until Ella Zero said it was time to leave. The bullet had already been removed by Ella Zero, and the inflammation had subsided. He had survived this ordeal.

"Can you manage on your own?"

Ella Zero checked the equipment and hummed in agreement.

“At least tell me what you’re going to do? I’m not comfortable with that,” he said in the silence.

Ella considered for a moment and said cautiously, "My mother gave me some instructions."
