The two sides were deadlocked, and Gu Yan was also feeling a headache. Both sides were tough nuts to crack, neither willing to give in. At this point, perhaps only a missile could blast a huge hole in the place and divert their attention.

The ground trembled slightly. At first, I thought someone had taken a step carelessly, but then the tremors gradually became stronger, and I even felt a little dizzy.

"What happened?"

Gu Yan pulled out his communicator, turned it on, and without a word, shoved it into Yang Guang's hand.

"Enough with the nonsense, contact Aunt Jiang, I'll go check outside."

Yang Guang gripped the communicator, glared at Ella Zero, and began operating it skillfully.

Ella Zero silently walked to Yang Guang's work area, her fingers brushing over the scattered metal parts, landing precisely on a device that was exactly the same as Gu Yan's communicator.

"Don't touch my things!" Yang Guang pursed his lips but didn't step forward to stop him.

Ella Zero turned on the switch, and the communicator remained on the login failure screen, with a particularly prominent red warning pop-up.

She brought the probe close to her face, and iris recognition was activated.

...

Authentication failed, please try again. Warning: Remaining attempts: 3.

Yang Guang watched her movements. Ella Zero raised the communicator in her hand and gave him a raised eyebrow. Usually, Yang Guang would have seen this as a provocation, but this time he just snorted silently and turned his face away to connect to Jiang Ping's account.

"Where are you?" Jiang Ping answered the call immediately.

Gu Yan took the communicator: "Yang Guang, this is it."

Jiang Ping immediately recognized Gu Yan's voice: "Just the two of you?"

"Um."

Hearing his ambiguous acquiescence, Yang Guang turned around and went to tinker with his own equipment.

You lie and then cover it up yourself; don't drag him down with you.

There was no response from the flounder for a moment, only the sound of its breathing could be clearly heard.

Gu Yan took the initiative to ask, "Was Uncle Qiao's matter on your orders?"

He didn't mention Ella Zero, but he was sure Jiang Ping knew perfectly well.

"Uncle Qiao? What happened to him this time? It can't be that he's having a bad time with his android lover and he's blaming me and the camp, can it?" Jiang Ping's voice turned several degrees colder, clearly showing his displeasure.

Gu Yan's pupils reflected Ella Zero's beautifully sculpted nape, as she leaned slightly forward to watch Yang Guang's actions, occasionally offering a few words.

He heard Liwen's name and, judging from Yang Guang's less-than-pleasant expression, could roughly guess what they were talking about.

"No, it has nothing to do with Er." He looked away, many words swirling in his mouth, but he swallowed them back down.

Jiang Ping's voice softened considerably: "Alright, it's good that you're safe. What's wrong with Yang Guang's communicator? We can't get in touch with him."

He offered a brief explanation, but Jiang Ping listened with little interest. It was Jiang Ping who had dug him out of a pile of corpses; they had originally been as close as mother and son.

However, both of them felt that a rift had suddenly developed between them.

Before closing the communication, Jiang Ping suddenly said listlessly, "I wish I had never sent you to university."

Gu Yan silently cut off the communication.

That's not the issue. Even if he didn't leave the camp, they would eventually face this day.

Yang Guang leaned closer with a sour face: "Mutation? What happened?"

Gu Yan observed Ella Zero's expression: "The Doctor is in their hands."

"You despicable person," Yang Guang spat.

"So what do we say now?"

The radio crackled as if binding a constantly hissing ghost, the chaotic static rising and falling.

"What happened?"

The group exchanged glances, simultaneously catching an unsettling signal.

It was a sound like a hidden thunderclap, turning the quiet space into a cacophony. The base felt like a pulse, its blood circulating faster and warmer.

Yang Guang rushed to the monitor to observe the various data and found that they were all getting further and further away from the normal values, hovering on the edge of the threshold. The entire display screen was flashing red as a warning.

"The ground movement is abnormal, and the cause has not yet been detected."

Gu Yan sensed something ominous from Jiang Ping's unusual voice earlier.

"Is it still possible to connect to the central tower's signal?"

Yang Guang tapped and banged on the door, then shook his head: "The intelligence network indicates that all external interfaces were temporarily shut down due to the unrest. What happened outside the tower when you went there?"

Ella's eyelashes fluttered, and Gu Yan knew they were thinking of the same thing.

“There is one, probably from the camp, but I’ve never seen him before.” That resolute face appeared before my eyes.

Yang Guang then learned that there had been an explosion at the central tower.

"If there's not a single word, then the situation is very bad. The central tower is under martial law; you'd better stay there."

Gu Yan shrugged, indicating that it was indeed fine, and turned his gaze to Ella Zero.

Seeing that both of their gazes were focused on her, the latter said briefly, "I'm going somewhere else."

"where?"

Yang Guang glanced quickly in their direction, but Gu Yan ignored her and waited for her reply.

"A cabin. We'll go and come back the same day." Ella asked him with her eyes: Is there anything else?

Gu Yan put away the communicator: "I'll go with you."

"No need. I have Siphus."

But when Ella Ling finished making arrangements and stepped out of the camp in the dim light, Gu Yan was leaning against the stone wall, as if he had been waiting for a long time.

"It's not that I meant anything else, but the doctor told me to take care of you."

Seeing that Ella remained silent, he stepped forward and took the backpack from her hands.

"Let's go, or the lights will be turned on."

After walking a few steps without hearing any movement behind him, Gu Yan adjusted his shoulder strap again and stopped.

"Do you know what I'm going to do?"

"I don't know." Gu Yan didn't turn his head, his fingers clenched tightly, his knuckles turning white. "I just feel that I shouldn't have let you walk this road alone."

He wasn't sure if Ella Zero could understand the words, since she had never really been his research subject.

Near the center, an eerie atmosphere permeated the air. Scattered supplies littered the ground; the area was dilapidated and completely ruined, leaving only a few crumbling walls, making it impossible to imagine what kind of building it once was. This scene resembled…

“This is the source of the tremor.” Ella Zero rubbed a handful of sand on the ground. “Amato, there was just an explosion here.”

"The Federal Royal Family?"

"Are you making this guess on purpose? The people still using Amato must be yours, right?"

Gu Yan didn't refute, watching her receding figure, and called out, "Take a detour. There's definitely going to be a secondary explosion here."

This is a common tactic used by flounder and sand smelt, and it is very effective at catching rescue soldiers.

"I couldn't ask for more." Ella Zero drew the short sword from the side of her leg.

I really don't know why the doctor was able to raise her to be so stubborn. Gu Yan sighed and followed in her footsteps.

The smell of gunpowder had faded somewhat, and the surroundings were deathly silent. The firefight just now seemed to have pressed the pause button on this space, making it impossible to even perceive the passage of time.

The scope slowly moved, framing Ella Zero's figure within it.

Zooming in a little closer, the crosshair moved from Ayla Zero's temple to her carotid artery, pausing for a moment.

The gunman seemed to hesitate.

Indeed, they thought they had enough intelligence, only to find that their previous intelligence was meaningless. So where exactly is the vital point of this mysterious Ella-type? Should they really kill her the same way Jiang Ping instructed? Would that work?

With that moment of hesitation, Ella Zero was completely enveloped by another tall figure and disappeared from the scope.

The gunman clicked his tongue and pressed the communicator.

"It worked?"

"No."

"Then what nonsense do you have to say?"

"It's Gu Yan. No matter what the reason, get him out of the way."

Gu Yan's communicator beeped, its sound particularly jarring amidst the silent ruins.

"Not answering?" The heat source beside her hadn't subsided at all. Gu Yan glanced down at the communicator's screen and silently put it away.

"It's nothing important."

Gu Yan noticed Ella Zero's slight raised eyebrow: "How do you know it's not important if you don't answer?"

Gu Yan stared at her, lost in thought. Lately, she seemed to have more expressions on her face. Although they were still few, he could at least distinguish the most basic ones.

Ella Zero glanced to one side, her gaze landing on a corner. Just as she was about to step forward, she felt an irresistible force pull her back to where she was.

Gu Yan grasped her wrist; it didn't seem to have much strength, but it didn't allow her to break free easily.

"What's wrong?"

"Don't move."

Gu Yan uttered those two words softly, turning his body towards Ella Zero.

The gunman clicked his tongue again.

"Are you kidding me? He's blocking it even more firmly now."

"He turned off his communicator. Don't worry, he's probably saying something. He'll move aside when he's done."

Are you sure?

"Otherwise what? Would he help that monster, who knows if it's even human? What are you thinking?"

"..."

"..."

"...I feel something's not right."

"What's wrong now?"

"They've been holding this position for thirty minutes."

A burst of static came from the other end, followed by a dignified female voice: "Operation canceled. That's it for today, withdraw immediately."

The gunman shifted his stiff body, let out a long hiss, and loosened his joints, which were almost rusty.

"OK."

Finally, confirm the target in the scope and prepare to call it a day.

But that one glance sent a chill down his spine.

The man who had been facing away from the scope turned around, and he almost thought the man was looking at him.

"What are you looking at?"

In the dazzling light, the man turned around: "Nothing, I thought there were some wild birds."

The fighting has spread far beyond the outer perimeter of the central area; Jiang Ping's offensive is considerable, and this time it seems like they are attacking without holding back.

"Take a detour." This time, Gu Yan's tone was resolute.

Ella glanced at the poplar forest not far away, seemingly weighing the pros and cons. After a long while, she slowly said, "Okay, you lead the way. If we don't get there within two days, I'll proceed alone as originally planned."

Gu Yan remained silent, leading the way. Following him was indeed a wise choice; Gu Yan understood the resistance's combat habits, and could predict with perfect accuracy where ambushes and ambushes would be set up.

The premise is that he truly has no ulterior motives whatsoever.

Ella Zero remained behind him, never lowering the hilt of her knife.

"We'll spend the night in the cave ahead and continue our journey once the lights are on."

Ella Zero had no objection.

"Don't worry, only I know that place. I used to go there alone when I was a child. The adults thought I was going to school, so they never followed me."

Ella Zero nodded noncommittally: "It's alright, even if there's an ambush, it can't trap me."

"That's true." Gu Yan chuckled softly.
