Chapter 236 Inheritance
The swordsman's wails gradually faded into the distance.
After Qin Jinzhi returned to the Prince's Mansion, Yun Ge brought news.
“Princess, there’s been progress in the investigation of Consort Fang that you asked me to investigate. Consort Fang hasn’t shown any unusual behavior, but her maid, who is supposed to go home to visit her family every month, has been going to a nunnery outside the city instead. This has been happening for the past year.”
Qin Jinzhi frowned slightly, then asked, "When is her next family visit?"
Yun Ge replied, "Three days later, I have already sent someone to infiltrate that nunnery. Once the old woman leaves the palace again, we should be able to find out the information that the princess needs."
Qin Jinzhi nodded, "Report back immediately if you have any news."
Yun Ge agreed, and then asked, "The Yao family is meeting with the people from the mansion tomorrow. Will the princess be attending?"
Qin Jinzhi chuckled lightly, "What would I do there for their family reunion? How are the preparations going?"
Yun Ge smiled and said, "Everything is ready. I'm sure you'll like it, Daoist."
Qin Jinzhi carried the delicious food that Yun Ge had prepared and went out again.
Today is the Dragon Boat Festival, and the Imperial College is closed for the holiday.
Qin Jinzhi arrived at Changfeng Daoren's courtyard with ease.
Taoist Changfeng was practicing the Five Animal Frolics in the courtyard.
He turned around and saw Qin Jinzhi standing silently behind him with a food box.
Changfeng Daoist raised his hand and slapped Qin Jinzhi, "You're going to scare your master to death!"
Qin Jinzhi nimbly dodged it. "Old man! If you hit me again, I'll throw away all the drunken crabs Yun Ge made."
Master Changfeng clasped his hands together and said, “My dear disciple, what brings you to your master today?”
Qin Jinzhi chuckled lightly, "On this Dragon Boat Festival, a time for family reunions, I was afraid you, an old man without children and all alone, would be lonely. So your good disciple came here especially to spend the Dragon Boat Festival with you."
As she spoke, she laid out all the contents of the food box one by one.
Qin Jinzhi said with great disgust, "You old man, you pick out the good crab meat but don't eat it. You don't even have many teeth left, yet you still insist on eating this hard shell."
Changfeng Daoist rolled his eyes. "What do you know, you brat?"
Qin Jinzhi looked at him and said, "A great scholar should be refined. If you let the students of the Imperial Academy see you like this, won't they completely ruin your noble image in their hearts?"
Master Changfeng stroked his mustache. "What do you want?"
Qin Jinzhi smiled and said, "What could possibly be wrong with me? I'll stop here and come spend the Dragon Boat Festival with you."
Changfeng Daoist had an expression that said, "Do you think I'm easy to fool?"
While picking up the drunken crab and eating it with relish, he said, "Tell me quickly."
Qin Jinzhi sat down next to him. "Master, you've only taken in three disciples in your life, and none of them have been able to inherit your mantle. That's why I'm so worried about you."
Master Changfeng snorted coldly, "You still have the nerve to say that? I have lived an upright life, but I ended up taking in three foxes like you. It's truly a case of having no successors. However, your young friend does have some literary talent, so it's not like she called me 'Master' for nothing."
Qin Jinzhi said with a sly look, "How about I find you a successor?"
Changfeng Daoist's small eyes showed utter disdain, and he had an expression that said, "I knew it."
Qin Jinzhi poured wine for Daoist Changfeng, saying, "You can decide for yourself. If you like someone, then accept them."
Daoist Changfeng picked up his wine cup and said, "You said it yourself. If it doesn't meet my standards, I won't accept it."
Qin Jinzhi smiled and massaged his back.
"Thank you, Master."
Looking at Qin Jinzhi's fawning expression, Changfeng Daoren laughed and said, "You're only this obedient when you need something from this old geezer. Tell me, who is it?"
Qin Jinzhi tilted her head and looked at him, "You are Luo Chengzhi, a student of the Imperial Academy."
Daoist Changfeng raised an eyebrow. “Luo Chengzhi? I was wondering why that kid’s writing style seemed so familiar.”
Qin Jinzhi shrugged with a grin.
Taoist Changfeng raised his wine cup.
Qin Jinzhi quickly poured the wine.
Master Changfeng said in a cheerful mood, "I will give him three tests. If he passes them, I will accept him as a disciple. If he fails them, you brat, you are not allowed to come here and throw a tantrum!"
Qin Jinzhi nodded repeatedly, "Mmm-hmm."
While eating drunken crab, Daoist Changfeng asked, "Have you been practicing the Five Animal Frolics that I asked you to do every day?"
Qin Jinzhi nodded, "There are drills every day."
Looking at her, Daoist Changfeng said, "Don't think this is a waste of time. Your master was able to live so long thanks to the Five Animal Frolics. You should practice it more; it will benefit your health."
Qin Jinzhi stood up. "I understand, old man."
She walked to the donkey shed next to her and asked, "Why has our Stone gotten so thin?"
The stone in the donkey shed blew twice.
Qin Jinzhi added some hay to its feeding trough.
Daoist Changfeng wiped his hands and asked, "What's going on with your fiancé?"
Qin Jinzhi picked up a brush from the side and combed the stone's fur.
"It's about disrupting marriage alliances between powerful families."
Changfeng Daoist glanced at her and said, "Tell me the truth, did you really choose the Pei family's son because the Pei family is weak? Pei Qing is not that simple."
While combing the stone's fur, Qin Jinzhi said, "Pei Yunxiao died because of my father's wrongful death. This is something the Pei family owes Pei Yunxiao, and it is also something the Pei family owes me. I gave them a way to live, so what's wrong with them serving me?"
Daoist Changfeng narrowed his eyes. "The Pei family is weak. Among the new generation, only Pei Jinnian has some talent, but he is too naive because he is protected by Pei Qing. If such a person enters the court, he will either die or be injured."
Qin Jinzhi smiled and said, "Didn't you say that Pei Qing is not that simple? He won't let Pei Jinnian die."
Changfeng Daoist drank a cup of wine. “Pei Qing is too ambitious. Once he turns against you, he will be a major obstacle for you. This knife is not so useful.”
Qin Jinzhi put down the brush. "The Pei family is a knife, but I am not the master of this knife. I have only sharpened this knife so that it can better protect its master in the future."
Looking at the expression in Qin Jinzhi's eyes, Daoist Changfeng chuckled, "Of my three disciples, your senior sister is the most cunning, your senior brother is the most ruthless, and only you, little devil, are the best at manipulating people's hearts."
Qin Jinzhi said with a smile, "It's all thanks to my master's teaching."
She escorted the somewhat drunk Taoist Changfeng back to his room.
They then returned to the Prince's Palace.
The next day, Qin Jinzhi prepared to attend court.
As soon as I stepped out of the mansion, I saw a person waiting at the gate.
When the man turned around, Qin Jinzhi almost didn't recognize him.
He stepped forward and said, "Princess!"
Can anyone tell her why this black monkey in front of her is making Pei Jinnian's voice?
Qin Jinzhi asked hesitantly, "Pei Jinnian?"
Pei Jinnian smiled somewhat embarrassedly, knowing that he was as dark as a lump of charcoal.
He used to be pampered and never experienced the wind and sun.
However, disaster relief in Jiangnan was urgent.
He traveled around with his subordinates every day, and when it was time to return to the capital to report on his duties, he almost didn't recognize himself.
Pei Jinnian took a letter out of his pocket.
“Princess, when I was providing disaster relief in Jiangnan, I discovered traces of the Chu people.”
