Fang Qiao entered the house, where Tian Tian was sitting on a small stool, watching Xiao Jing fold origami cranes.
Upon seeing Fang Qiao, Tian Tian asked, "Auntie, I think I just heard little Lai'er crying? What happened to her?"
Fang Qiao explained, "She's fine. It's her mother who's about to give birth."
Sweetie asked again, "Her mother went to give birth, so is she home alone? I want to go visit her."
Fang Qiao said, "Don't go. She went to the hospital with them and isn't home. Go see her another day."
"Alright then." Sweetie lowered her eyes in disappointment.
Xiao Jing handed her a square piece of paper and asked her to fold origami cranes with her, which finally caught her attention.
Seeing this, Fang Qiao turned around and went into the inner room.
An'an was sleeping in her crib, while Cheng Baidong sat by the window reading the newspaper.
Fang Qiao sat on the edge of the bed and asked him, "Bai Dong, I just vaguely heard someone arguing next door. They said the factory is going to build a new one? And most of the employees will be transferred? Is it true?"
Cheng Baidong nodded: "It's true, but the site has only just been chosen. Construction can only begin after the land thaws in the spring. The entire project will take at least a year."
Will you be transferred there?
Cheng Baidong shook his head: "No."
Once the new factory is built, 90% of the original pharmaceutical factory's employees will move there, and the remaining 10% will be incorporated into his underground research department.
As the core of the entire underground research department, he would naturally stay here.
Fang Qiao felt relieved after receiving Cheng Baidong's confirmation.
Although Heshan is remote now, it will no longer be a suburb once the capital city begins large-scale construction.
The location of the new factory is incredibly remote. It's more like a county town under the jurisdiction of Beijing than a town in J province. Even thirty years from now, it will still be a remote suburb.
Once you go there, the adults are fine, but the children's education certainly can't compare to that in Beijing.
So Fang Qiao definitely wanted to stay, and thankfully the final answer was what she wanted.
As evening fell and dusk settled, Gao Ping returned the bicycle.
Cheng Baidong took the bicycle and pushed it into the house.
Fang Qiao stood under the corridor and asked him how he was getting along with Wang Yun.
Gao Ping's fingers were so cold he could barely straighten them, but his smile was as bright as a flower.
"That's great. I've already made an appointment with Comrade Wang Yun to go sightseeing in the Imperial City on the sixth day of the Lunar New Year."
The sixth day of the Lunar New Year is Sunday, so there's no work.
"Okay, I'm relieved if you two get along well."
As Fang Qiao spoke, she invited him inside to warm himself by the fire.
Gao Ping waved his hand: "Sister-in-law, I won't come inside to warm myself by the fire. I have to go to work tomorrow, and I still have some work to finish in my dormitory, so I'll head back first."
Fang Qiao nodded: "Okay, then I won't keep you any longer. Go back now."
"Brother Cheng, I'm leaving." Gao Ping said to Cheng Baidong again.
Cheng Baidong agreed and told him, "Go back now, and watch your step on the road."
After Gao Ping left, Cheng Baidong bolted the courtyard gate and was about to go back inside when he heard the sound of Li Dan's door opening next door.
First there was a creak, then someone tripped over the threshold and fell to the ground with a muffled groan.
It's Liu Dongliang.
He got up from the ground, kicked the long stick blocking the door aside, and cursed under his breath: "We've already destroyed the Four Olds, why are you still blocking the door with gold ingots? You're crazy."
He cursed as he walked into the house, muttering, "It's already dark, where is everyone? Why aren't the lights on? And there's no sound at all."
Soon enough, things started to get interesting.
Chen Guizhi from next door cursed at him over the wall: "Turn on the lights, you son of a bitch! Your wife was so angry with you that she went into premature labor and had to be sent to the hospital. You went out gallivanting all afternoon and didn't come back. And you still have the nerve to ask why the lights aren't on? Of course no one's home, so no one's turning on the lights!"
"What a bastard."
