"Don't worry, I'll make her get out of here right away." Cheng Baidong hugged Fang Qiao tenderly, gently patting her back to help her catch her breath: "Don't be angry, getting angry will reduce your milk supply. Think about Chuan Chuan and Yue Yue, do you want Chuan Chuan and Yue Yue to go hungry because of someone like this?"
"I know that getting angry will reduce milk production, but I couldn't help it. She went too far! How could there be such a person!" Fang Qiao buried her head in Cheng Baidong's arms, gritting her teeth and trembling with anger.
Cheng Baidong gently patted her back and softly comforted her, "Don't pay attention to her. The angrier you get, the more you fall into her trap! Anyone with a brain knows you would never agree to swapping babies, but she still insists on talking to you about it. Why? Maybe she's just trying to annoy you!"
Upon hearing this, Fang Qiao immediately sat up and exclaimed excitedly, "That must be it! She's the kind of person who can't stand seeing others do well when she's unhappy herself!"
"Then don't be angry, don't give in to her wishes." Cheng Bodong coaxed softly, "It's almost noon, do you want some longan and red date porridge? I'll go to the state-run restaurant outside the hospital to buy some."
Fang Qiao nodded: "Okay."
After calming Fang Qiao down and watching her fall asleep, Cheng Baidong opened the door to the ward.
Xiao Jing and Tian Tian were playing on a bench outside the ward when Cheng Baidong waved to them. Xiao Jing immediately took Tian Tian's hand and walked over.
Cheng Baidong instructed, "Xiaojing, I'm going out to buy food for your sister-in-law now. You stay in the ward with Tiantian and play. Don't go out. If Liu Dongliang and Li Dan come again, don't let them in."
When Cheng Baidong mentioned those two breaths, his tone was as cold as ice.
Xiao Jing, sharing the same hatred, naturally nodded in agreement: "Don't worry, big brother, I will definitely protect my sister-in-law and my two little nephews well! I will never let them have a chance to get close!"
"Then I'll leave this place to you. I'll be right back."
Cheng Baidong left the inpatient department with a lunchbox, went to the state-run restaurant across from the hospital, ordered a pot of longan and red date porridge, and two side dishes.
The restaurant needed time to cook the dishes, so Cheng Baidong paid the food coupons and money first, asking the restaurant to start cooking, while he went to the grocery store next door to make a phone call.
A public telephone was installed in the grocery store, and local calls cost four cents a minute.
A phone call went directly to the factory manager's office, and they had an in-depth conversation that lasted ten minutes.
After hanging up the phone, Cheng Baidong came out of the phone booth, where his boss was waiting to keep track of the time.
He rarely encountered big customers like Cheng Baidong, mainly because communication costs were too high these days. People would never make a phone call unless it was something important, and even if they did, they would keep it short, rarely exceeding one minute.
The shopkeeper smiled and said, "The call lasted 10 minutes and 21 seconds. Normally, if it's more than 5 seconds, it should be charged as a minute. But since your call lasted a long time, I won't charge you the extra minute. Just give me four yuan in total."
Cheng Baidong readily took out his wallet and paid.
A single phone call cost an average person almost a week's wages, yet the person showed no sign of distress, leaving the boss speechless.
This is a rich person.
When Cheng Baidong returned to the state-run restaurant after making the phone call, the porridge and dishes he had ordered had already been packed into a food box.
He also ordered four pumpkin pancakes and three steamed buns. The waiter at the state-run restaurant took the money and told him to fill them up himself, without much enthusiasm.
At this time, this was the attitude of all the staff at state-run restaurants. Cheng Bodong was used to it, so he packed up the pumpkin pancakes and steamed buns and left with them.
Back in the ward, Fang Qiao was still asleep, and Chuan Chuan and Yue Yue were also fast asleep.
Xiao Jing, along with Tian Tian and An An, squatted in a corner and played with origami, all quietly.
Cheng Baidong placed the lunchbox on the bedside table and asked Xiaojing, "No one came by just now, right?"
Xiaojing replied, "No."
As they were talking, Fang Qiao woke up.
Cheng Baidong was somewhat annoyed: "Did I wake you up?"
Fang Qiao shook her head: "No, I wasn't really asleep to begin with. I was in a daze the whole time. I could hear you talking clearly, but I just couldn't fall asleep while lying down."
Cheng Baidong glanced at his watch; it was just past eleven.
"Since you can't sleep, let's eat first. The sooner we eat, the sooner we can pack our things and leave the hospital."
Fang Qiao nodded: "Okay."
Cheng Baidong took out bowls and chopsticks from the bedside cabinet, first poured a large bowl of porridge for Fang Qiao, and then divided the rest equally into two large bowls and two small bowls. The large bowls were for him and Xiao Jing, and the small bowls were for Tian Tian and An An.
Four pumpkin porridges were served, one each to Fang Qiao, Xiao Jing, An An, and Tian Tian, while Cheng Baidong ate a white steamed bun himself.
Halfway through the meal, the two children, perhaps smelling something, woke up and cried out, reminding their parents that they were awake.
Cheng Baidong immediately put down his chopsticks and went over to check on them. He touched the two brothers' diapers to make sure they were dry, then reached out and teased them a couple of times. Seeing that neither of the children was crying, he didn't pick them up.
Don't hold the baby unless he's crying, so he doesn't get into the habit of not holding him. If he goes back to work after his paternity leave, Fang Qiao won't be able to take care of him.
Fortunately, the two brothers were very well-behaved. They didn't cry when they weren't held. They lay on their sides in the crib, quietly watching their mother eat with their big, bright eyes.
After Fang Qiao finished eating, it was their turn.
After feeding the two brothers, Cheng Baidong put them back in the crib. Fang Qiao said with a look of relief, "Luckily, the anger I had at noon didn't stop my milk production, otherwise I would have vomited to death."
There weren't many things in the ward, but there was quite a lot to tidy up.
There are staff on duty at the hospital at noon, but they don't process discharges until 2 p.m. when the hospital officially starts work.
