Chapter 188 Waking Up

"Brother, sister-in-law, do you see if there's anything missing in the house? If there's anything you don't need, I'll go get it."

Wang Qiuju was warm and attentive. Fang Qiao glanced around the room and said, "We don't need anything. It's getting late, so don't bother with anything else, go and get some rest."

"Okay." Wang Qiuju replied, "Then I'll go out. Call me if you need anything."

"good."

After seeing Wang Qiuju out of the house, Fang Qiao closed the door to the west room.

As soon as the door closed, the little Vermilion Bird flew out of the backpack where it had been perched, sprawled out on the bed like a giant "X", and exclaimed with relief, "Oh my, I'm so tired. I can finally get out. I almost suffocated on the way here."

Fang Qiao chuckled, "Isn't it tiring to stay in your bag all the time?"

"I'm tired," said the little Vermilion Bird. "I've been curled up all the time and can't move around. My bones are almost shrinking. Of course I'm tired."

"Then you should stretch out quickly."

Little Zhuque had been cooped up on the train all day, and couldn't stand it any longer at night, so she asked Fang Qiao to open the door for her and go out for some fresh air.

After the little Vermilion Bird flew away, Cheng Baidong took out the family's toiletries from his spatial storage and prepared to wash up and go to bed.

Fang Qiao took a basin and went out to pour some hot water. After returning, she took turns giving the children and herself a simple wash, then changed into her pajamas and sang nursery rhymes to lull the children to sleep.

Children fall asleep quickly; after singing a few nursery rhymes, all three children fell asleep one after another.

They moved the three children to the side against the wall, and Fang Qiao and Cheng Baidong slept on the outside to prevent the children from falling out of bed at night.

Lying in bed, Cheng Baidong said to Fang Qiao, "Tomorrow I'll go to the city to transfer Tian Tian's household registration, and while I'm at it, I'll find a legitimate reason to bring back the things I have in my spatial storage."

“Okay, go ahead.” Fang Qiao nodded: “Tian Tian’s household registration has been delayed for so long, it’s time to get it done.”

Cheng Baidong put his arm around Fang Qiao's waist: "Go to sleep."

"Mmm." Fang Qiao closed her eyes and gradually drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Fang Qiao was awakened by the sound of a rooster crowing.

It was barely dawn, and the room was still dark; it was probably not even six o'clock yet.

The "ooh ooh ooh" sound was very close, the sharp sound piercing the eardrums, waking not only Fang Qiao and Cheng Bodong, the two adults, but also the three children.

Fortunately, the three children in the family are generally not grumpy when they wake up, especially the two younger ones. After being woken up, they just grunt a couple of times, turn over, stick their bottoms out, and go back to sleep.

The slightly older An'an stopped sleeping, rubbed her eyes, and reached out for Fang Qiao to hold her: "Mommy, I need to pee."

Children have virtually no ability to hold their urine. Once she says that, it either means she's about to pee or she's already finished.

So when Fang Qiao heard her say that, he didn't say anything, but quickly picked her up from the bed and ran outside. Luckily, she ran fast, otherwise she would have made a mess of the room.

After taking care of An'an's physiological needs, Fang Qiao picked An'an up again. When he turned his head, he saw a rooster standing on the window frame and was almost scared to death by its protruding comb.

"Oh my god." Fang Qiao was startled and afraid of being pecked. She hurriedly hugged An An and backed away. She retreated several meters, her heart still pounding.

"What's wrong?" Cheng Baidong came out when he heard the noise and took An'an into his arms.

"I turned my head and was startled by this big rooster." Fang Qiao complained, "It really knows how to stand. No wonder it was crowing so loudly this morning. It was crowing from our window. It was so noisy."

“I’ll chase it away.” Cheng Bodong, holding An’an in one arm, turned to the left, pulled a small stick from the woodpile, and waved it away.

Fang Qiao was a little hesitant to get close and warned Cheng Baidong, "Roosters are all very fierce. I don't know if this one will peck at people. Be careful, or you might get pecked."

"It's nothing." He grew up in the countryside and had seen plenty of roosters that would peck at people. To him, this was no danger at all.

Cheng Baidong waved a wooden stick to chase the rooster down from the window frame. An'an clapped her hands with joy, shouting "Big rooster!" and leaning forward in Cheng Baidong's arms, trying to chase after it: "Daddy, chase, chase!"

As a doting father, Cheng Baidong naturally had to fulfill her request, so he carried her to chase the rooster.

At this moment, Wang Qiuju came out of the main room, walked to Fang Qiao's side, glanced at Cheng Baidong who was holding An'an not far away, and said in surprise, "Sister-in-law, you got up so early."

Fang Qiao pointed to the rooster that had been chased to the kitchen door and said helplessly, "We were woken up by the rooster's crowing. This rooster stands on the window frame outside our house and crows, it's so noisy. Adults are fine, they just wake up, but children who are woken up by the noise are more likely to fuss because they can't fall back asleep naturally."

“I blocked up the chicken coop last night, and I guess my mom came over this morning and opened it up,” Wang Qiuju said. “I’ll talk to her about it later and tell her not to open the coop up early tomorrow.”

Fang Qiao nodded: "Okay."

Wang Qiuju: "You guys play for a while, I'll go cook."

"I'll help you, it'll be faster if two people work together." Fang Qiao called out to Cheng Baidong, "Baodong, I'm going to help Qiuju cook. Keep an eye on things inside, make sure they don't fall down."

Cheng Baidong agreed.

Fang Qiao followed Wang Qiuju into the kitchen and casually asked, "Xiao Qiang isn't home? I don't see him."

"He's not home; he went to the fields to pick cotton flowers," Wang Qiuju said with a smile. "It's cool in the early morning before the sun shines, perfect for working in the fields. We're also taking advantage of the dry weather to quickly pick all the flowering cotton flowers in the fields, otherwise it would take much more effort."

Fang Qiao nodded, indicating her understanding.

She spent five years as an educated youth in Chengzhuang Village, and did a lot of work picking flowers in the fields. Naturally, she knew that many farmers went to the fields at dawn. Although there was some dew, and her clothes would be completely soaked after walking through the fields, it was cool and dry without the sun. It was better to have slightly wet clothes than to be covered in sweat under the scorching midday sun.
