Chapter 23 Flattery

Upon seeing him, Wang Yun's anger flared up instantly. She gave Officer Sun a cold look and said in a sarcastic tone, "Oh, it's Officer Sun. Not busy today? Finally have time to condescend to come to our countryside to solve the people's requests for help?"

Cold sweat instantly streamed down Sun's forehead. He glanced guiltily at the leader in front of him and said weakly, "Young comrade, you're being too harsh. You shouldn't say things like that."

"Then what should I say?" Wang Yun crossed his arms and snorted coldly, "I said all the nice things to you yesterday, I was practically begging you on my knees, and what did you do? You just slammed the door shut and locked me out. What a good cadre of the people!"

Fang Qiao had heard about what happened last night from Wang Yun, and knowing that the Sun clerk in front of her was a scoundrel, her face turned cold.

The older leader in front sensed something was wrong and quickly asked, "Xiao Sun, what's going on?"

"No, no..." Officer Sun wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and hurriedly explained to his superior, "This young comrade and I have some misunderstandings."

As he spoke, he looked at Wang Yun again, desperately trying to wink at her: "Young comrade, I'm so sorry, it's all my fault, please forgive me. I was wrong yesterday, I apologize to you..."

"Some things cause damage that cannot be resolved with just an apology."

"Sir, it's not a misunderstanding, let me explain in detail." Wang Yun said directly to the leader, "Aren't you looking for Battalion Commander Cheng Baidong? This lady next to me is his wife, Fang Qiao."

"Oh, hello, hello."

Fang Qiao nodded slightly.

After exchanging greetings, Wang Yun continued speaking.

"Here's what happened: a few days ago, Battalion Commander Cheng fell off a cliff and went missing while saving someone. When the telegram was sent back to the village, many people mistakenly thought he had sacrificed his life. This led some wicked people with extremely bad character to have evil thoughts, bully the orphans and widows, and spread rumors, wanting to covet what Battalion Commander Cheng left behind."

Therefore, I went to the People's Armed Forces Department last night to ask Officer Sun for help, all to save Battalion Commander Cheng's unborn child. However, Officer Sun thought what I said was absurd and repeatedly refused my request. If Battalion Commander Cheng hadn't happened to return just as I was leaving the People's Armed Forces Department, his unborn child would have been in real danger.

"To put it mildly, this Officer Sun neglected his duties; to put it more seriously, he failed to help someone in distress. Therefore, I do not accept his apology!"

When Officer Sun heard Wang Yun's account, he was completely stunned.

He never expected that the person who was almost driven to death by Cheng Yajun was actually Battalion Commander Cheng's wife.

What stupid thing did he do?

He actually believed Cheng Yajun's nonsense so easily because of the benefit of a chicken, thinking that his brother was just an ordinary martyr and it wouldn't matter if he turned a blind eye to making things difficult for him.

That's a battalion commander!

After being transferred back to civilian work, one would at least be the second-in-command in the county, while the people's armed forces department in their town would only be considered a subordinate of a subordinate!

It's over, it's all over.

Sure enough, after hearing this, his superior immediately stated, "How could such a thing happen! This is outrageous! It must be severely punished! Comrade Fang, please rest assured, I will issue the disciplinary action as soon as I get back! We will resolutely prevent such incidents from happening again!"

Sun's knees buckled, and he almost collapsed to the ground.

The leader gave him a sly glare: "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and return the young man's bicycle to him."

After saying that, the leader quickly changed his expression and gave Fang Qiao and Wang Yun a friendly smile: "Young comrade, you left yesterday in Battalion Commander Cheng's jeep. You were in such a hurry that you left your bicycle in our People's Armed Forces Department's yard. That's why we came all the way here today to bring it back to you. A bicycle is an important family asset. It would be terrible if it were stolen outside. Don't forget it next time."

This leader speaks fluent official jargon.

Fang Qiao hated people like this the most in her past life. They were all hypocritical, talking a good game but doing nothing.

In her quest for justice for her daughter, she was tossed around like a football by countless people like this. She had had enough and never wanted to deal with them again.

Fang Qiao gave Wang Yun a look, and Wang Yun immediately took the bicycle from Sun's hand, giving Sun a fierce glare.

Fang Qiao didn't want to offend him, nor did she want to have anything to do with him anymore. Her polite and courteous manner was tinged with distance: "Thank you so much for going to all the trouble to bring the bicycle back, sir. You've really gone to so much trouble."

"No trouble at all." The leader seemed oblivious to Fang Qiao's aloofness, rubbing his hands as he followed: "Is Battalion Commander Cheng home? Come to think of it, I was in charge of conscription back then, so you might recognize me if we meet."

A hint of annoyance flashed in Fang Qiao's eyes, which were hidden by her long, dark eyelashes, but there was nothing she could do. Judging from how persistent this person was, she probably wouldn't leave until she saw him.

She gave a slight smile: "At home."

As they were talking, Cheng Baidong came out of the house. When he saw Fang Qiao, he immediately walked over to her, complaining, "Why are you taking so long to walk? I've been waiting for you at home for ages."

Fang Qiao immediately understood what he meant.

This person probably heard it in the yard a long time ago, otherwise they wouldn't have spoken to her like that.

"I ran into a leader from the People's Armed Forces Department on the way. They specially returned Wang Yun's bicycle, which he had forgotten in town. I thanked them, so we talked for a bit longer," Fang Qiao said ruefully.

"So that's how it is!" Cheng Bodong suddenly realized, and quickly extended his hand to shake hands with the person: "Thank you, leaders, thank you all. I'm really sorry to have troubled you. It's such a hassle for you to bring a bicycle all the way here."

"No trouble at all, it's my duty to serve the people." The leader waved the noble banner of selflessness.

Fang Qiao secretly curled her lip.

After a few casual words, Cheng Baidong didn't have a good impression of this 'leader'; he was too slick.

He immediately made an excuse to leave, looking embarrassed: "Unfortunately, I have some personal matters to attend to, so I won't be able to entertain you, sir."

"Not at all, not at all. What kind of leader am I, a mere logistics director, compared to you? You are the leader. In that case, we won't bother you any longer. Goodbye." He was sensible enough not to try and get any closer. He couldn't flatter her, but he also didn't want to offend her.

He thought to himself: This is because Officer Sun did a really bad job! People don't like him, and even he, as the leader, is being implicated.

They had inquired about the incident when they arrived, and it was indeed dangerous last night. If Cheng Baidong had returned even a few minutes later, his wife and children would have been kicked to death by his stepbrother.

Sigh, in the end, Officer Sun was really muddle-headed!

Those who are short-sighted will never amount to much!

Severe punishment!

They must be severely punished!
