Xie Wei was so weak that she couldn't stand up. Her counselor and the police patiently waited until she regained her strength.
But as time went on, more and more students passed by.
Unable to bear the strange looks and whispers from others, Xie Wei forced herself to stand up.
She still held hope for the Luo family, believing that with their deep roots, they couldn't possibly be unable to resolve such a small matter.
Xie Wei was surrounded and taken away by her counselor and the police, one on each side. Shen Ailan, sitting on the edge of the rooftop, saw the whole scene clearly.
Instead of letting the matter rest, the school called the police and handed Xie Wei over to the police, which gave Shen Ailan a glimmer of hope.
She finally agreed to come down from the rooftop.
Her counselor was very worried when she saw that she was thin and haggard, and that she was walking unsteadily as if she might faint at any moment. She wanted to take her to the hospital.
Shen Ailan shook her head and declined the counselor's offer, saying that she was just malnourished and that she could get some glucose in the school clinic.
The counselor couldn't persuade her otherwise, so she and Xiaojing took her to the school clinic.
After the IV drip started, the counselor had other things to do and left, so Xiaojing stayed behind to keep her company.
Shen Ailan walked all the way from the countryside to the school. She walked all night and then made a scene at the school for most of the day. She only ate half a mixed flour pancake in between. She was hungry, tired and exhausted. She lay down on the bed in the school clinic and fell into a deep sleep after a short while.
Xiao Jing heard the rumbling in her stomach and asked the school doctor to watch over her injection. She then left the school doctor's office, went back to her dormitory to get her lunchbox, and then went to the cafeteria.
Since it wasn't mealtime, there wasn't much food in the cafeteria, so Xiaojing had to wait a little longer to have the chef cook something fresh for her.
Twenty minutes later, Xiaojing returned to the school clinic with the vegetable porridge that her teacher had just cooked.
As Xiaojing approached the school clinic, she heard voices and soft sobs coming from inside.
Xiao Jing paused, stood at the door for a while, and waited until the voices inside quieted down before gently knocking on the door.
"Please come in."
Xiao Jing gently pushed open the door and entered the room. She lifted the curtain at the door and saw Shen Ailan half-lying against the headboard, wiping away tears. Her two roommates were sitting on a stool next to the bed, their eyes also red. They had obviously talked about Shen Ailan's sad things and were moved to tears by the scene.
"Jingjing, you're back." Shen Ailan wiped away her tears and forced a smile at Xiaojing.
"Okay." Xiao Jing nodded and placed the lunchbox on the bedside table. "I saw you were asleep, so I went to the cafeteria to buy some food."
Shen Ailan touched her hungry stomach, and moved to tears again: "Thank you, Jing, you are so good to me."
“We’re friends, after all.” Xiaojing smiled and said in a relaxed tone, “It’s not mealtime, and there’s not much food in the cafeteria. I asked the cook to make you a bowl of vegetable porridge with an egg drop soup in it. It’s nutritious and easy to digest, so please have some.”
"good."
"Be careful, it's hot." Xiaojing handed her the spoon and carefully reminded her.
Shen Ailan's nose tingled, and she could barely hold back her tears.
"Mmm," she responded incoherently, burying her head in her porridge, tears finally spilling onto the bowl in a steady stream.
At this moment, the school doctor peeked out from behind the curtain and said to Xiao Jing, "You're Cheng Jing, right? Your counselor told you to go to her office when you get back."
"Okay, I'll be right there." Xiao Jing turned to Shen Ailan and her roommate and said, "You guys chat, I'm leaving now."
After leaving the school clinic, Xiaojing walked towards the office building.
The corner was a blind spot, and Xiaojing didn't notice it, bumping right into someone.
"Hey, can't you watch where you're going?"
The person who hit her was a plump middle-aged woman. Before Xiaojing could speak, she heard the other woman speak first, her voice rough and very aggressive.
"I'm sorry, I..." Xiaojing was about to explain when she looked up and realized that the other person looked very familiar.
"What do you mean 'you'? Watch where you're going. It's only because I have a good temper that I don't argue with you. Anyone else would have started a fight with you long ago."
The woman rolled her eyes impatiently, looking like she didn't want to talk to Xiaojing anymore. She walked forward, tugging at her clothes and fixing her hair.
This little incident passed quickly. Xiaojing simply assumed she had encountered an impolite stranger, shook her head, and continued walking.
After walking a few steps, I suddenly remembered why that woman looked familiar!
She's seen her before!
Three months ago at Shen Ailan's house!
She is Shen Ailan's mother!
Xiao Jing couldn't help but worry. In order to force Shen Ailan to submit, her mother had gone so far as to send her to the countryside and even considered marrying her off and never letting her come back. Her presence here was definitely not a good thing. They would find it hard to talk to each other and a conflict between the mother and daughter was bound to occur.
Xiao Jing hurriedly turned back, and sure enough, before she even got close to the school clinic, she saw Shen Ailan's two roommates being chased back.
Although she hadn't heard any arguing yet, Xiao Jing was still worried. She approached the school clinic and pressed her ear against the door to listen carefully to what was happening inside.
At first, the sound inside was soft, and Xiao Jing couldn't hear it clearly. Later, probably because the two of them were having a disagreement, Shen Ailan's mother got angry, and her voice gradually became louder.
“Shen Ailan, I’m speaking to you nicely, but you don’t appreciate it. Do I have to turn on you? I’m telling you right now, you’d better go find your school leaders and tell them that this is all a misunderstanding! If you’re late and ruin your uncle’s family’s plans, I won’t let you off the hook.”
Shen Ailan said, "My father only has two younger sisters and no older brothers, so where did I get an uncle from?"
Shen Ailan's mother said matter-of-factly, "It's Director Luo! Your brother married Director Luo's niece, and he calls him 'Uncle' because of your sister-in-law. So, if you follow your brother's logic, Director Luo is your uncle."
Shen Ailan scoffed.
Shen Ailan said irritably, "What's with that expression? So what if someone impersonated you? What does it have to do with you? What good will it do you to report them?"
