"ah?"
"ah?"
Cheng Baidong and Fang Qiao had almost identical blank expressions.
The overwhelming sense of unreality left Fang Qiao somewhat bewildered: "This, this is about to happen? Isn't the due date still half a month away?"
"The due date is the ten months of pregnancy, but many women actually give birth in eight or nine months." The old lady hurriedly explained to her, "Don't just stand there. You can't stand for long after your water breaks, or it will run dry. I'll find you a stool to sit down first, but once you get in the car, you must lie down and not sit anymore."
She found a stool for Fang Qiao to sit down, and then directed Cheng Baidong to pack his things and bring the car over.
Fortunately, Fang Qiao had prepared everything for the delivery in advance, all packed in a bundle, so she could just grab it and go.
In less than ten minutes, Cheng Baidong had tidied everything up and carried Fang Qiao to the back seat of the jeep, where she lay flat.
The country roads were bumpy and uneven. Cheng Baidong was afraid that the violent bumps would make Fang Qiao uncomfortable, so he kept his spirit in check and used his spiritual power to control the balance of the car.
The car drove smoothly into the entrance of the county hospital's emergency building, and Cheng Baidong had almost exhausted his remaining spiritual energy.
Fortunately, by this time, the emergency room doctor had already lifted Fang Qiao onto a stretcher, so Cheng Baidong didn't need to exert himself.
Upon further inquiry, it was learned that the amniotic sac had ruptured, so the woman was immediately taken to the delivery room.
One doctor followed Cheng Baidong into the delivery room, while another doctor stayed outside to guide him through the hospital admission procedures.
Giving birth is not an easy thing. Fang Qiao was in so much pain that she wanted to cry and scream, but crying and screaming would exhaust her strength, so the doctor who delivered her scolded her and forbade her to cry or scream.
Fang Qiao had no choice but to endure it, her head covered in cold sweat, her teeth biting so hard they left bloody marks on her lips.
After a night of chaos and pain lasting over ten hours, Fang Qiao finally gave birth to her child at five in the morning of the eleventh day of the twelfth lunar month.
Hearing the loud cry of a baby, Fang Qiao's eyes welled up with tears, and the tears she had held back all night poured down like a raging flood.
She cried uncontrollably, and the nurse quickly comforted her, saying, "It's alright, it's alright, don't cry anymore. The baby is born, it doesn't hurt anymore."
The nurse wrapped the baby up and brought her to Fang Qiao to see: "Look at your daughter, she weighs six pounds eight ounces, so pretty and chubby! You're a mother now, don't cry."
After receiving stitches, Fang Qiao was helped by two nurses to lie down on a movable stretcher, and her daughter was also placed in a separate small bed and wheeled out of the factory with her.
Cheng Baidong stayed up all night, his eyes were bloodshot, and even stubble had grown on his smooth chin.
Seeing Fang Qiao emerge safely, he strode over, leaned in and embraced her, gently brushed the sweat-dampened hair from her forehead, and lightly kissed it.
His eyes were slightly red, and his voice was filled with emotion: "Wife, you've worked so hard."
"I'm so sleepy." Fang Qiao's eyelids were so heavy that she could barely keep them open, and she didn't really hear what Cheng Baidong was saying.
"Go to sleep if you're tired, I'll stay with you." Cheng Baidong wiped the sweat from her forehead with a handkerchief and pushed the stretcher forward.
Fang Qiao had almost fallen asleep with her eyes closed when she suddenly remembered something and opened them again: "Daughter."
"Yes, yes," a nurse behind her quickly replied, "I'm pushing it."
Hearing a satisfactory answer, Fang Qiao finally felt relieved and fell asleep.
Fang Qiao didn't sleep for long.
She desperately wanted to see her daughter and opened her eyes after sleeping for less than two hours.
In winter, the nights are long and the days are short; at seven o'clock in the morning, it's just getting light outside the window.
As soon as Fang Qiao woke up, Cheng Baidong noticed her as soon as she moved her arm.
"You're awake."
Fang Qiao hummed in agreement, then turned to ask him, "Where's An'an?"
An'an is the name Fang Qiao and Cheng Baidong gave their daughter together.
She didn't ask for her daughter to achieve great things in this life; she only hoped that she would live a peaceful and carefree life.
“Here she is.” Cheng Baidong pushed the crib at the foot of the bed over. “She’s asleep.”
Fang Qiao: "Let me see."
Cheng Baidong placed the stroller close to the hospital bed so that Fang Qiao could easily see it.
An'an was a beautiful little girl born at full term. She was chubby and fair-skinned at birth, without any excess vernix caseosa on her body, and unlike other newborns, she wasn't wrinkled. Her skin was pink and tender, and even with her eyes closed, you could still see the creases of her double eyelids and her curled eyelashes. Her little nose was upturned and straight, and her cherry lips were slightly pursed, making her incredibly cute. You could tell at a glance that she was destined to be a beauty.
Fang Qiao liked it more and more as she looked at it, and after lying on her side in bed for almost half an hour, she still felt like she hadn't had enough.
Cheng Baidong's posture before going to the cafeteria to get food remained unchanged when he returned.
Fang Qiao looked incredibly cute like this. Cheng Baidong looked at her with tenderness, and his usually serious face broke into an undisguised bright smile: "Stop looking and come have breakfast."
Cheng Baidong was speaking very softly because his daughter was sleeping and he was afraid that his voice would wake her.
"good."
After breakfast, the doctor came to check on Fang Qiao and shared a lot of maternal and infant care knowledge that new mothers should know. He also told Fang Qiao to breastfeed the baby as soon as possible after the baby woke up.
When the topic of breastfeeding came up, Fang Qiao looked a little embarrassed.
She didn't.
Fortunately, the hospital's own store sells baby formula, and parents who give birth at the hospital can buy it with a ticket, but there is a purchase limit; each new parent can only buy one can.
Without hesitation, Cheng Baidong immediately took the ticket, money, and the child's birth information to the hospital's self-operated store and bought the milk powder.
Just as the baby formula was brought back, An'an woke up, her little face flushed red from crying. Fang Qiao tried to soothe her for a long time, but to no avail.
Cheng Baidong quickly opened the milk powder, prepared it with warm water, and fed it to An'an.
An'an, who had been crying loudly from hunger, finally stopped fussing after drinking milk. She nestled obediently in Cheng Baidong's arms, letting her father pat her back to burp, and soon fell asleep again.
In just a short while, Cheng Baidong and Fang Qiao were both sweating profusely from being manipulated. They looked at each other, saw each other's slightly disheveled appearance, and couldn't help but smile at each other.
"Knock knock knock..."
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
An'an, who was sleeping in the stroller, suddenly made two noises. Fang Qiao and Cheng Baidong thought the child was going to be woken up, and they were so frightened that they held their breath.
