Chapter 9 Smearing

Fang Qiao pressed down on Wang Yun's hand: "Calm down."

"They... went too far!" In front of Fang Qiao, Wang Yun couldn't bring herself to say anything cruel; her eyes were red with anger.

Fang Qiao put down her chopsticks, stood up, and walked into the yard.

Wang Yun hurriedly followed.

Listening from the courtyard, the discussions outside grew louder, with Huang Yan's voice being the loudest.

Fang Qiao had experienced the same thing in her past life, so although these words could still affect her emotions, they would no longer cause her any harm.

She bent down and picked up several clods of dirt from the ground, then threw them all over the wall following the sound.

Wang Yun also helped her throw it away.

If you throw a dozen or so clods of dirt at once, you're bound to hit one of them accurately.

Just then, someone outside the courtyard cried out, "Ouch!" followed by an angry shout: "Who's the blind fool who dared to smash me!"

Immediately, someone stepped in to mediate: "Hey, stop talking, it was thrown out of the yard."

"Sigh, it's no wonder that the daughter-in-law feels bad to hear this. Huang Yan, you also had to say it at their doorstep. Isn't that immoral?"

"Stop talking, stop talking, let's go."

The sounds outside the courtyard quickly dissipated. Fang Qiao opened the gate to the courtyard and looked out, and sure enough, she saw a thick layer of ice on the steps.

They resorted to the same old trick.

Fang Qiao looked around and saw a figure hurriedly hiding behind a wall in the distance. She couldn't help but sneer.

You must be disappointed that she didn't fall for it after a whole night of work, right?

"Those gossipy women!"

Wang Yun grumbled and walked out, only to be pulled back by Fang Qiao and realize that there was ice on the steps.

"Strange, why is there ice at the door? I swept the floor yesterday, and it didn't snow, so why is it frozen?"

At this point, Wang Yun suddenly realized something.

The steps, which I swept clean yesterday, suddenly froze over last night, even though it wasn't snowing. Unless it was intentional!

Someone deliberately splashed water on the steps!

Look how thick this ice is! Even if water was splashed on it, it must have been splashed more than once!

If there are pregnant women or children in the house, and someone steps on it and falls, the consequences could be disastrous!

It's obvious what kind of evil intentions a person who does bad things has!

That's so vicious!

Wang Yun was trembling with anger: "No, I'm going to find the village chief and Director Li!"

"Be careful," Fang Qiao instructed.

“I know.” Wang Yun carefully walked around the steps.

Fang Qiao stood there waiting for her to come back.

When she had her accident in her previous life, Director Li had just been transferred to work in the town, leaving only the village chief in charge of the village.

The village chief, also surnamed Cheng, was a close relative of Cheng Guihe, and always favored the Cheng family.

She had no hope for the outcome, but she was still unwilling to give up and had a strange expectation.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, Wang Yun returned looking dejected.

"Director Li went to a meeting in town early this morning and isn't home. The village chief doesn't care, saying it's just a few pieces of ice, and everyone has a few pieces of ice in front of their house."

“I said there were none elsewhere, only on the steps, and they were especially thick, so someone must have done it on purpose. He said it was probably just kids playing around.”

“If I say anything more, he gets annoyed and says that nothing has happened yet, and tells me to go to work and stop making trouble.”

Wang Yun was unhappy and couldn't help but complain, "Why is he like this?"

"Forget it." Fang Qiao grabbed Wang Yun's hand and shook her head at her: "Director Li isn't here, the village chief won't care."

She'd seen through it all in her past life: smoothing things over in small matters, taking sides in big ones, and always speaking up for whoever was more powerful.

"Go back now, just be more careful next time."

“But you can’t guard against thieves for a thousand days if you’re a thief for a thousand days.” Wang Yun worried, “I’m really afraid that if their plan fails, they’ll resort to desperate measures.”

"It's alright, I'll be careful. I'll try not to go out unless necessary, so they won't have a chance to come into contact with me. Bai Dong is a martyr after all, they wouldn't dare to rob him openly, otherwise they'd be in deep trouble if the case was reported to the town."

So in their past life, they chose to slander her innocence and spread rumors that the child was illegitimate, which led to family disputes.

Her reputation was ruined; everyone said she had cheated on the martyr, and nobody was on her side.

Thinking of this, Fang Qiao suddenly became alert.

Half a month later in her previous life, they used the same trick again, and even fabricated a story to bribe a good-for-nothing from the next village to come out and 'testify' that they had an affair, thus nailing her to the pillar of shame.

Having avoided the misfortunes of his past life, neither slipping nor prematurely giving birth, will the Cheng family strike ahead of time in order to succeed in their scheme?

If I don't have a backup plan, won't I be smeared with dirty water again?

After careful consideration, Fang Qiao felt that she could not sit idly by and wait for her fate. If she had the opportunity, it would be best to strike first!

Fang Qiao closed the door, whispered to Wang Yun for a while, and finally saw her out.

Not long after Wang Yun left, Tian Tian woke up.

The children can dress and wash their faces by themselves, so Fang Qiao basically doesn't need to help them.

Fang Qiao prepared some hot water for her to wash her face, then went to the kitchen to cook noodles.

Just as the noodles were cooked and before they could be served into a bowl, a child screamed from outside.

"ah--"

"ah--"

"Auntie, help me!"

"There's a snake!"

snake?

Where did the snake come from in the dead of winter?

Her sweet voice was tinged with tears. Fang Qiao didn't have time to think and hurriedly came out of the kitchen.

"Sweetie, Auntie's here, don't be afraid."

Sweetie buried her face in Fang Qiao's arms with tears streaming down her face and began to sob.

Fang Qiao wiped away her tears with her hand and asked worriedly, "Don't cry, sweetie. Tell your auntie where you saw the snake."
