Lu Xiao pushed open the car door and jumped out. He squatted down and touched the cut surface of the log, which still had a fresh moisture smell.

"Just laid down not long ago."

He looked up into the depths of the woods, and it seemed as if countless pairs of eyes were hidden among the swaying branches and leaves.

Chang Jia followed him down and shone his flashlight into the woods. "Something's wrong. No one usually uses this section of road. Who would block the road for no reason?"

Lu Xiao dragged Chang Jia back to the car and said in a deep voice, "Drive, back up!"

The driver quickly shifted gears and just as the car moved back half a meter, he saw several men with sticks rushing out of the woods, led by Lao Zhang from the Materials Department.

"Hey, Deputy Captain Lu, how are you?"

Old Zhang had a fake smile on his face, but the wooden stick in his hand was knocking loudly on the ground.

"Where are you going? I'll clear the way for you. But this wood is too heavy. It might take a day and a night."

Lu Xiao sat in the car without moving, his eyes as cold as ice: "Lao Zhang, are you trying to stop the official business?"

"How dare I?"

Lao Zhang moved to the side, revealing the two people behind him.

"Look, I brought people here to clear the way for you. You can't slander me. It's just that we can't find anyone here, so we can only ask the locals for help."

The two men were wearing patched jackets and their eyes avoided looking at the car.

Chang Jia couldn't help but curse, "Do you think we're fools? I've seen these two people at the entrance of the Materials Department. They're clearly temporary workers in your department!"
