Hearing Su Tang's question, Dad Lu wiped the rain off his face and spoke in a hurried voice.
"They told us to move to the higher ground in the east. It's higher up there and safer. The commune has already sent people over to organize it. They told everyone to pack up their things and move quickly."
Su Tang's heart sank suddenly. He was about to move. It seemed that the situation was indeed not good.
The hand on her waist tightened unconsciously.
I subconsciously looked out the window and saw that the rain was as thick as ink that could not be dissolved.
Raindrops hit the window with a crackling sound.
No one knew how long the rain would last, and Su Tang was indeed a little worried.
She was worried about Lu Xiao and didn't know what the situation was like on their front line.
Mother Lu calmed herself down and quickly pulled Su Tang into the house: "Come on, Tangtang, let's go get some important things. You don't need to bring too much clothes, the most important thing is your medicine."
Wang Xinxin also reacted and turned to pick up the cloth bag in the corner: "Take the food I bought with you, in case I need it on the way."
As she spoke, she stuffed a flashlight and matches into her bag.
I also packed a lot of food and daily necessities.
They don't know when they will be back, so they naturally need to pack more things.
Su Tang entered the room and glanced at the photo of Lu Xiao on the bedside table.
She took a deep breath, quickly opened the drawer, put Lu Xiao's things into her cloth bag, and grabbed a few sets of clothes and stuffed them into the bag.
Finally, Su Tang took away the suitcase left by Su's father and mother.
It contains money and various tickets. If these things are lost, I will be heartbroken.
"Okay, Mom, let's go."
Su Tang walked out of the room carrying the bag and saw that Wang Xinxin had helped Lu's father put the family's kerosene lamp and a small bucket of kerosene into the basket.
Father Lu was bending over to check his raincoat. When he saw them coming out, he stood up and said, "Let's go. Follow the group in front and don't fall behind."
As soon as the group walked out of the courtyard, they saw that the outside was already crowded with people.
Everyone was carrying their bags and supporting each other as they walked eastward. It was obviously the first time for everyone to encounter such a thing and they seemed a little flustered.
Wang Xinxin stayed close to Su Tang, holding her arm with one hand and shielding her from the oncoming rain with the other: "Cousin, walk slowly, the ground is slippery."
Su Tang nodded. The wind and raindrops hit his face, making him feel cold and painful.
She suddenly thought of Lu Xiao and wondered where he was at the moment and whether he was in danger.
Just as I was thinking about it, there was a commotion ahead.
Someone shouted, "Make way, let the pregnant women and the elderly go first!"
Wang Xinxin hurriedly pulled Su Tang forward, but caught a glimpse of a familiar figure in the crowd.
The man was wearing a military uniform and was directing everyone to advance in an orderly manner. His profile looked particularly tough in the dim light.
The rain dripped down his cheeks and he was completely soaked.
"Chen Zhengnian?"
Wang Xinxin subconsciously let out a low cry, and Chen Zhengnian seemed to hear the sound and turned around.
When their eyes met, Chen Zhengnian was visibly stunned for a moment, then he quickly walked over and said, "Why did you come out just now? Come with me. There's a car up ahead that can take pregnant women and the elderly."
Wang Xinxin opened her mouth and wanted to say something, but Su Tang interrupted her: "We can go on our own, so let's let those who need it more get on the bus."
Chen Zhengnian frowned slightly, his eyes falling on Su Tang's bulging belly: "No, the rain is too heavy, the road is difficult to walk on, you can't get wet in the rain while you're pregnant."
With Chen Zhengnian's words, Su Tang no longer refused and followed him into the car.
Wang Xinxin didn't get on the car, saying that he could walk.
After the car drove away, Wang Xinxin was about to leave, but Chen Zhengnian stuffed a flashlight into her hand.
"Take it and light the way."
Chen Zhengnian's voice was a little hard to hear in the rain.
Wang Xinxin clenched the flashlight tightly. She watched Chen Zhengnian turn around and dive into the crowd, going against the flow, and was soon swallowed up by the moving figures.
"Xinxin, what are you daydreaming about?"
Lu Ma's voice came from behind, holding a suitcase in her hand.
"Hurry up and keep up, don't be left alone."
Wang Xinxin sighed and hurriedly turned on the flashlight.
The beam of light shook, just illuminating Chen Zhengnian who was bending over to help someone.
Wang Xinxin hurriedly looked away and pretended to concentrate on the road.
The team was wriggling like a long snake in the rainy night. After walking for an unknown amount of time, lights finally appeared in front of them.
Someone shouted that they were almost there, and a low cheer rose from the crowd.
Wang Xinxin looked up and saw the outline of the highland looming in the rain and fog, and a makeshift shed could be vaguely seen.
Fortunately, this is a reserve area, and there is strength in numbers.
Otherwise they don’t know how long it will take.
After Wang Xinxin came in with Lu's father and mother, Su Tang had already found a place for them to come over.
Just then, Chen Zhengnian came over with the remaining troops.
"Chen... Chen Lu, please come here and rest."
A clear female voice sounded, and the girl in red clothes squeezed next to Chen Zhengnian and said something.
Chen Zhengnian moved aside and said calmly, "No, thank you."
The girl in red clothes looked unhappy.
Wang Xinxin's pace slowed down a bit. For some reason, she felt a little upset.
"Xinxin, come here and rest for a while."
Father Lu called her from the front. Wang Xinxin responded and went forward. Just as she was about to sit down, she saw Chen Zhengnian striding over and holding out a piece of plastic sheet. "Put it under the cushion."
The girl in red followed behind, her eyes full of hostility.
Wang Xinxin took the plastic sheet and paused, then whispered, "Thank you."
After settling the crowd, everyone sat down and rested.
