Chapter 149 Clues
Gu Yuanyuan lay on the bed with his feet wrapped in gauze, popping cherries into his mouth with his only uninjured hand, and seemed quite happy about it.
They were completely unaware of the approaching storm.
The door to the room was pushed open, and Gu Yuanyuan spat out the cherry pit. "Is he seeing me today?"
"Gu Yuanyuan, it's been a long time."
Shi Er pulled up a sofa chair for Shi Nianzhi, and Shi Nianzhi sat down, facing Gu Yuanyuan.
He couldn't see Gu Yuanyuan's face clearly, but he could make out her outline.
Gu Yuanyuan initially didn't take it seriously. He glanced at Shi Nianzhi and said, "Why did you come here? Oh, Su Hengyi picked you up, right? It seems he's in a better mood. When you go to see him later, take me with you."
He still spoke in the same tone, always with a hint of irritation when talking to Shi Nianzhi.
"Shi Er, slap him."
Shi Nianzhi turned his head slightly and gave an instruction.
Shi Er stepped forward, "Slap—"
The slap knocked the cherry plate Gu Yuanyuan was holding to the ground, scattering cherries that added a splash of red to the blue bed.
Gu Yuanyuan gritted her teeth and glared angrily at Shi Er, "You son of a bitch—"
"fan."
"Smack—"
The two slaps stunned Gu Yuanyuan and enraged him. He picked up the white plate and threw it at Shi Er.
Shi Er dodged to the side, and the plate smashed against the wall and shattered into pieces.
Shi Nianzhi looked at Gu Yuanyuan coldly, "Do you know why I hit you?"
Gu Yuanyuan and Shi Nianzhi exchanged a glance. He felt a little guilty, but the burning pain on his face made him unwilling to back down.
He said irritably, "How am I supposed to know what's wrong with you, Shi Nianzhi! I think you're getting crazier and crazier."
This time, Shi Nianzhi did not let Shi Er make a move. He stood up by himself and slowly stood in front of Gu Yuanyuan.
He raised his hand.
Gu Yuanyuan instinctively covered the cheek that was about to be hit with both hands and turned slightly to the side as a way of dodging.
Shi Nianzhi's voice was somewhat cold, "Take your hand away!"
"I don't."
"Time Two!"
Before Shi Nianzhi could finish speaking, Gu Yuanyuan rushed over and hugged Shi Nianzhi's waist.
"Uncle, I'm so badly injured, I'm really in so much pain. Whatever grudge you have, please wait until I'm healed before you take your revenge, Uncle!"
Shi Nianzhi placed her hand on Gu Yuanyuan's ear, but didn't pull it. "It hurts so much, why are you still eating cherries?"
"I only ate some fruit because I was in so much pain, to try and distract myself. The doctor said I'm going to be disabled in one leg, and I'll be limping from now on. Uncle, you can't hit me even if you don't comfort me, right?!"
Gu Yuanyuan looked up at Shi Nianzhi, who blinked.
How did you recognize me?
Gu Yuanyuan whispered, "Shi Nianzhi doesn't have your aura, Uncle. He wouldn't dare to lay a hand on me if I didn't provoke him. I know you're my uncle, and I know you'll come back sooner or later."
Therefore, Gu Yuanyuan was not surprised.
Shi Nianzhi chuckled. Gu Yuanyuan really knew his personality after he lost his memory.
"release."
"oh."
Seeing that Shi Nianzhi had given up the idea of continuing to beat him, Gu Yuanyuan let go and leaned against the bed.
Did you know that your grandmother passed away?
"What?"
Gu Yuanyuan looked at Shi Nianzhi in disbelief, "When did this happen? Nobody told me!"
When Madam Gu passed away, Gu Yuanyuan was seriously injured and unconscious. By the time he woke up, the funeral had already been held. Fearing that it would affect the recovery of Gu Yuanyuan's wounds, his family kept it from him.
Gu Yuanyuan smiled. "Uncle, you're joking with me, right? Grandma is so healthy, how could she..."
Seeing Shi Nianzhi's serious expression, which showed no sign of joking, Gu Yuanyuan spoke softer and softer.
For the first time, panic and helplessness appeared on his face. "When did this happen? How could someone die so suddenly? Is it... is it that imposter?!"
Shi Nianzhi lowered her eyes slightly, but in the end she didn't say anything to Gu Yuanyuan. She just instructed, "You should rest well. What's done is done and it's over. We'll talk again when you're healed."
Shi Nianzhi turned around, and Shi Er went up to support his arm and led him away.
"If you won't tell me, I'll go ask you myself."
Gu Yuanyuan was very agitated. He moved his legs, which were wrapped in gauze, and struggled to stand up.
"If you don't want me to slap you again, you'd better behave yourself."
Shi Nianzhi's cold remark.
Gu Yuanyuan immediately became obedient and quiet. He sat on the bed, feeling very sad and unable to accept the fact that Old Madam Gu had passed away, but he did not shed a single tear.
He didn't know why, maybe because he felt the bad news was too dramatic, as if Shi Nianzhi had lied to him.
Shi Nianzhi went to see Su Hengyi.
Su Heng lay on the bed, his eyes closed as if he were asleep.
But when Shi Nianzhi came in just now, the butler told him, "Young Master is not asleep right now, he just doesn't want to talk to anyone."
Shi Nianzhi did not bring Shi Er in.
Alone in his blurry vision, he groped his way to the bedside, then felt for a chair and sat down.
He placed his hand on the bed where Su Hengyi was lying, "Brother Yi".
Su Heng didn't open his eyes or respond, as if he hadn't heard anything.
Shi Nianzhi said in a low voice, "I know you're awake. Aren't you curious how I got here?"
It was still quiet.
After a long silence, Shi Nianzhi finally said, "The boss wouldn't want to see you like this either."
Su Hengyi's closed eyelids twitched, and a single tear slowly rolled down from the corner of his eye.
He remembered holding Mu Guangcheng's blood-stained hand, gripping it with all his might.
Mu Guangcheng looked up and smiled at him so gently.
Even though he was standing on a bottomless, pitch-black abyss, and death was imminent, he could still laugh so carefree.
She didn't forget to tell him, "Hey, take good care of Nianzhi for me. He's so naive. If I'm gone, keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn't get scammed. Shi Nianzhi, sigh, he's such a simpleton."
"He would entrust you to me."
Su Hengyi's icy voice suddenly rang out in the room.
Shi Nianzhi remained silent for the time being.
Su Hengyi slowly sat up from the bed. The collar of his hospital gown was loose, and you could see the layers of gauze wrapped around his chest.
Why do you leave all the pain to me?!
Su Heng raised his hand and knocked over the vase on the bedside table. As if he was still not satisfied, he simply removed the electrode pads attached to his body and smashed the expensive medical equipment.
He made a mess of the room, and then stepped barefoot on the bunch of lilies that lay quietly amidst the mess.
Facing the beautiful view outside the floor-to-ceiling window, he lowered his head slightly in the backlight, tears falling one by one onto the lily leaves.
"Mu Guangcheng, I can't find you."
Su Hengyi's voice, filled with suppressed sorrow, was heartbreaking to hear.
Shi Nianzhi sat quietly in his original spot. He looked up, his vision blurred as he watched his back.
Grandpa Su rushed in with medical staff, and Shi Nianzhi was asked to leave by the housekeeper.
Shi Er looked somewhat worried. "Have you gotten into trouble?"
“Some emotions need to be expressed; keeping them bottled up will only make things worse. Grandpa Su has arranged rooms for us; go and rest.”
"What are your plans next?"
"I'll rest here for a while; my eyes need time to recover."
After Shi entered the room.
Shi Nianzhi went to see Gu Yuanyuan again and asked her to bring Gu Dongxuan and Li Yuan over.
He needs to have a serious talk with his older brother and sister-in-law.
The capital city.
The assistant pushed open the door to the president's office again. "Third Master, we really can't find any trace of Young Master Shi. It's as if someone deliberately erased it. We do have news from the school though. Two days ago, Second Master Shi took Young Master Shi to apply for a leave of absence."
Lu Jiunian reached out and pressed his temples. "A living person can't just disappear into thin air. Keep searching."
"Young Master Gu has invited you to try on your wedding attire this afternoon."
Lu Jiunian was silent for a while, then said, "Find an excuse to decline."
The man stood up and stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling glass. He looked down at the city, where people and cars appeared as small as ants in his view.
Where exactly is that silly Shi Nianzhi?
He's so stupid and blind, how can he take care of himself?
Lu Jiunian couldn't concentrate on work all afternoon. He stared at Shi Nianzhi's school ID card on the table. He had been with Shi Nianzhi for so long, yet he didn't even have a single photo of her.
The boy with the bright smile on the school card, whom he used to think looked like a young Gu Zijian, now only made him feel a pang of sadness.
He missed him a little, not as anyone else, just a little.
Even just meeting him once, talking to him.
Gu Zijian pushed the door open and came in. "A-Nian, are you not satisfied with your wedding dress? The wedding is in a month. If you don't try it on soon, it's all handmade, and if anything doesn't fit, it will be too late to make alterations."
"I have a very important meeting this afternoon. If you have time tomorrow, let's go try it together."
Lu Jiunian calmly put away the school card on the table and casually tossed it into the drawer.
I saw the ring that he had put inside last time.
Lu Jiunian took it out and gently stroked it with his fingers. He suddenly remembered the day Shi Nianzhi wore this ring and looked so happy.
A sudden, inexplicable pain shot through his heart. He knew he should be loyal to Gu Zijian, but he couldn't control himself from thinking of him.
Perhaps it was because Shi Nianzhi was having such a hard time that he couldn't bear to see her suffer.
Let him find Shi Nianzhi. He will take good care of him, raise him to be healthy and plump, and never let him suffer again.
That fool has already suffered so much; now he has neither parents left.
Shi Nianzhi, in this world, is the only one left.
"Then it's settled. Ah Nian, Jiu Nian!"
Gu Zijian called out to Lu Jiunian, and Lu Jiunian finally snapped out of his daze.
He looked at Gu Zijian and gave a somewhat perfunctory smile, not as sincere as before.
He raised his hand and held up the ring. "I took the wrong ring last time and haven't asked you to exchange it. Come here, let me put it on you."
Gu Zijian froze on the spot. He hadn't had time to make any changes and wasn't sure if the ring would fit him perfectly.
Lu Jiunian stood up and took Gu Zijian's hand. "I wanted to put it on you last time, but it got stuck on my finger. A ring only shows its value when it's worn on your hand."
