Chapter 1 Prologue

Ever since Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva made the vow that he would not attain Buddhahood until hell was empty, he has become the ruler of the underworld.

Xie Fei is the current ruler of the underworld, Ksitigarbha.

For tens of thousands of years since he became Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Xie Fei has been practicing in seclusion in Yuncui Palace. Except for important matters that need to be reported to him, other matters in the underworld are left to Hou Tu and Judge Cui to take care of, and the Ten Kings of Hell each perform their duties.

The underworld has always been running in an orderly manner.

But since some time ago, the Ten Kings of Hell discovered that there was something wrong with the ghosts who came to the underworld. These ghosts were full of resentment, and were unwilling to drink Meng Po soup, refused to cross the Naihe Bridge, and even caused the evil ghosts suppressed in hell to become restless.

After all, resentment is excellent nourishment for these evil spirits.

The Ten Kings of Hell frowned, realizing that something was not right, and quickly reported it to Lord Hou Tu. After Hou Tu ordered Judge Cui to investigate, he found that the situation was very serious, so he notified Xie Fei and interrupted his retreat.

Xie Fei walked out wearing a black and gold robe, a gold belt around his waist, and black hair draped behind him.

Hou Tu was wearing a golden dress and bowed slightly. Judge Cui bowed respectfully and said, "Greetings, Lord Ksitigarbha."

Xie Fei nodded, his brows calm, and asked, "What's the matter?"

Hou Tu had a solemn face and a clear voice: "The Ten Kings of Hell reported that the ghosts who came recently have deep resentment and obsession. After investigation, Judge Cui found that these people may have suffered some kind of blow when they were alive, so they formed evil spirits. If they are not properly handled, they may turn into evil ghosts."

"Hmm." Xie Fei pursed his lips, his handsome face looking a little cold.

"Lord Ksitigarbha." Judge Cui looked at Xie Fei, hesitated for a moment, and spoke carefully, "These evil spirits are no longer suitable to enter the six realms of reincarnation. Now they only have two choices, either to gather resentment and become evil ghosts, or to guard the resentment in the underworld and become wandering souls."

Xie Fei tapped the armrest of the chair with his slender hands, his peach blossom eyes flickered, and after a long while he opened his mouth and said, "Didn't they say they were resentful?"

Judge Cui nodded and looked at Xie Fei with some confusion.

"Then let them pay with their souls to help them get rid of their resentment." Xie Fei thought for a moment and said calmly.

Hearing this, Hou Tu's frown slowly relaxed. She lifted her sleeves and said with a smile, "You are indeed worthy of being the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. I admire you very much, sister."

Xie Fei nodded, his brows and eyes calm as usual, as if he didn't hear Hou Tu's teasing. Hou Tu seemed to be used to it as well and didn't care too much about Xie Fei's actions.

After resolving the matter, Xie Fei stood up and was about to leave, but Judge Cui hurriedly asked, "Lord Ksitigarbha, who would be the most suitable person to be sent to dispel the grievances?"

"Who in the underworld is relatively free right now?" Xie Fei sat back in his chair, leaning lazily against the backrest, his elbows resting on the armrests to support his chin, and asked lazily.

Judge Cui waved his sleeves, and a completely black booklet appeared in his hand, with three large gilded characters "Judge's Book" written on it. He then raised the judge's pen in his right hand and lightly tapped the cover, and the booklet automatically flipped through the pages. Soon, Judge Cui closed the judge's book, raised his head in surprise, and said with a bitter smile: "Currently, you and Lord Hou Tu are the only ones who have a lot of free time in the underworld."

"Oh?" Xie Fei looked at Hou Tu in surprise, raised his eyebrows, and said, "Then Hou Tu——"

"Ksitigarbha, in my opinion, it would be more appropriate for you to go." Hou Tu rolled her eyes at Xie Fei and interrupted him with a giggle.

"Why?" Xie Fei looked at Hou Tu and asked.

"Do you think the former Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva achieved great success through seclusion and cultivation? You have already been in the underworld for tens of thousands of years. If you don't travel around the mountains and rivers and see the human world, how can you have the courage to vow 'I will not become a Buddha until hell is empty'? How can you see through all things in the world and achieve the great way?" Hou Tu curled her lips and said faintly.

After a moment of silence, Xie Fei said calmly: "You are right."

"Then it's decided." Hou Tu waved her hand towards Judge Cui domineeringly, and said in a good mood, "Little Cui, have someone build a cave next to the Netherworld Bridge at the entrance of the underworld, and call it--"

Hou Tu raised her head slightly and thought for a moment, then she smiled and said, "Let's call it 'Soul Pawn Shop'! Let the Ox-Headed and Horse-Faced Demon send the evil spirits in the underworld there first, and then notify the Black and White Impermanence, and if there are any such ghosts in the future, bring them there too."

"Yes, Lord Houtu." Judge Cui glanced at Xie Fei, who did not object, and nodded, following suit.

Since then, there has been a cave beside the Netherworld Bridge leading to the underworld. The owner of this cave is a handsome and cold-tempered young man. If you have "love separation, long-lasting resentment, can't get what you want, can't let go" matters, you can go here to make a deal.

The price of the transaction is the soul.

It is the pawnshop of the soul.

The author has something to say:

Don’t miss it if you pass by! ! ! If you like it, please give it a collection, muah~

I'm terrible at naming, so I'm collecting names for supporting characters now. If there's a suitable name, I'll use it in the next world (I hope there is one, otherwise it would be embarrassing →→)
