Chapter 5: The Good Child
Wen Yin had never seen the mother the little boy was talking about, but she had just heard other people upstairs making negative speculations about the child's mother.
Looking at the boy crying silently in front of her, she suddenly felt a little sympathy.
"Come on, I'll take you to treat your wound first."
She held the little boy's wrist with her backhand. Last night, she saw a hospital on the roadside.
"I, I don't want to..."
The boy broke free from Wen Yin's hand, raised his injured arm and wiped the tears from his face with a stubborn look on his face.
"I just want to find my mom."
"You're injured, and it will affect your speed in finding your mother."
Wen Yin didn't get angry either. She just pointed at the boy's calf and said, "If you don't run fast, there will be fewer places to search."
After saying that, the little boy hesitated for a moment. Just as he was about to say something else, a crisp sound of intestines suddenly came from under his little belly.
"Gu..."
Seeing Wen Yin looking at his belly, he immediately covered his belly in a hurry.
"Let's go. Only when we're full will we have the strength to look for our mother."
Wen Yin held the little boy's wrist again and pulled him out of the building.
Maybe he was really hungry, the little boy didn't struggle or refuse this time. He just lowered his head and followed Wen Yin silently.
-
The sun is shining outside the building. Because this area is a residential area, there are many small vendors around.
The shops are filled with a wide variety of goods. It is the peak time for people to go out to buy groceries and have breakfast. Everywhere you look is filled with a strong urban atmosphere.
Wen Yin took the little boy to the hospital first, fearing that he would need a blood test, and planned to eat after that.
The hospital was small and its facilities were very old. After the nurse briefly asked about the boy's condition, she took them to a treatment room.
“Doctor Shen, there is a patient who fell.”
The nurse lifted the curtain, called into the treatment room, and then nodded to Wen Yin.
"The doctor is inside, come in."
Wen Yin thanked her, and as the smell of disinfectant hit her face, her mind suddenly flashed back to the self-introduction that her neighbor said to her yesterday when she was standing in front of her door.
[Shen Sinian, my name is, and I am a doctor.]
And the nurse just called out, Doctor Shen.
As if to verify Wen Yin's guess, a gentle and slow voice came from inside the door, as if whispering in her ear.
"Come in."
It’s Shen Sinian.
Wen Yin could feel her heart beating faster. She pinched her palms as she stood at the door, and as she stepped into the room, she showed a perfectly balanced expression of surprise.
“Doctor Shen?”
"Why you?"
Shen Sinian stood in front of the operating table by the window. The orange-yellow morning sun outside the window poured down from behind him, making his already gentle and warm temperament even more approachable.
With pure white work clothes and a faint smile, the whole person exudes an unparalleled holy glow.
It was impossible to connect such a flawless man with the person who broke into her room last night.
"Wen Yin."
Shen Sinian spoke in a young voice, the narrow tails of his eyes behind the lenses slightly raised, and he looked around her: "Are you hurt?"
"No," Wen Yin looked away and brought the little boy behind her forward, "Doctor Shen, it's him."
Children's fear of doctors is the same in this world.
When the boy saw Shen Sinian, he instinctively shrank back, but finally mustered up the courage to reach out to Shen Sinian.
“Uncle Shen…I’m injured here.”
Wen Yin also realized from this address that they knew each other.
"Okay, good boy."
As Shen Sinian spoke, he put on sterile gloves.
He lifted the boy's arm, his gaze lingering on the bleeding wound for a long time, and then he spoke slowly.
"Xiao Tuan, how did you do this?"
The boy called Xiaotuan lowered his head and said nothing.
"Did you get into a fight with someone?"
Shen Sinian’s tone was still gentle.
"If you don't listen, your mother will be angry if she finds out."
"My mother disappeared, and those brothers laughed at me and called me a wild child, so I got into a fight..."
The boy suddenly looked up, his round eyes looking directly at Shen Sinian who was squatting in front of him: “Uncle Shen, have you seen my mother?”
A breeze blew, blowing the hem of Shen Sinian's clothes hanging at his side. In the sudden silence, Wen Yin suddenly felt that the room temperature had dropped by several degrees.
"No, I haven't met your mother."
Shen Sinian adjusted his glasses on the bridge of his nose and gave a reassuring smile: “Wait a little longer, maybe you’ll see her soon.”
"All right……"
The boy shrank his held arm: “Uncle Shen, can I leave now?”
"Wait, let me apply some medicine for you."
Shen Sinian stood up, took a bottle of blue potion from the table, and applied it generously to the bleeding wound, covering the bright red.
The boy gasped in pain, his fingers clenched white, but he didn't move.
Seeing this, Wen Yin lifted up the little boy's trouser legs.
“Doctor Shen, and the knee.”
"Um."
Shen Sinian lifted the boy's calf, and the white latex glove inadvertently passed across Wen Yin's arm, feeling soft and slightly cool.
"It's not a big deal. Just go back and don't get wet."
After Shen Sinian finished speaking, he returned to his seat and wrote out a prescription.
"Buy another bottle of potion to take back."
Wen Yin touched her arm as she stood up, took the prescription, and thanked the man who was staring at her through thin glasses in the seat.
Shen Sinian nodded, his eyes fell from Wen Yin back to the gray-faced little boy, and after a few seconds turned back again, and suddenly said: "Wen Yin, how did you sleep last night?"
There was a faint smile on Shen Sinian's lips, and his peach blossom eyes behind the glasses narrowed slightly.
Gentle and dangerous.
Wen Yin held the prescription and gave the other person a faint smile in the morning light.
"I slept well. Thank you Dr. Shen for your concern."
"That's good. I was worried that you wouldn't be able to adapt."
Shen Sinian's expression remained calm, as if he had never been there last night.
“Doctor Shen, since there is nothing serious, let’s go back first.”
Wen Yin took the little boy's hand.
"Okay, Wen Yin, goodbye." The other party politely stood up and walked her out the door.
Wen Yin turned around, went out, and when she walked into the hall, she could still vaguely feel the lingering gaze on her back.
-
[Host, do you think Shen Sinian is the mission target?]
Wen Yin found a breakfast shop on the roadside and was having breakfast with Xiaotuan when 028 suddenly spoke in her mind.
Wen Yin did not answer immediately, but reached out and pushed the buns and soy milk on the table towards Xiaotuan.
The boy in front of me was eating voraciously and looked like he had been hungry for a long time.
[That dark shadow from last night.] Seeing Wen Yin remained silent, 028 continued to mutter to himself, [It was the first to appear, and it's also very suspicious.]
Wen Yin sat quietly at the table, her long, soft black hair simply tied into a ponytail, revealing a fair and slender neck.
A few strands of hair were blown by the breeze and gently fell behind the small earlobes.
When she lowered her eyes, she looked gentle and fragile.
[Compared to that dark shadow, I think... there's another person who seems even more suspicious...]
[Who is it?]
Hearing Wen Yin's words, 028's mechanical childish voice was filled with surprise.
The hair falling on Wen Yin's neck made her feel a little itchy. She was about to raise her hand to move it away when a shadow suddenly fell in front of her.
At the same time, the fresh scent of soapberries that lingered all over her body in the bathroom also entered her nose.
"Mr. Landlord."
Wen Yin opened her mouth and called out the name of the person in front of her.
Or maybe it was in response to 028's question.
When Xiaotuan, who was eating voraciously, saw the person coming, he stood up suddenly and accidentally bumped his elbow against the edge of the table, which happened to touch the wound covered with blue potion.
"Uncle Landlord! Ahem...Have you got any news about my mother?"
Xiaotuan still had a piece of bun skin stuffed in his mouth and hadn't had time to swallow it. He was grimacing in pain and stuttering in his words. In the end, his face turned red from holding it in.
Wen Yin quickly reached out and patted Xiaotuan on the back, and brought the soy milk to Xiaotuan's mouth.
"Drink quickly and don't choke..."
The landlord's gaze swept across Xiaotuan's gray face and finally fell on Wen Yin's profile. His expression was still as distant and cold as last night.
"not yet."
Xiaotuan finally swallowed the food in his mouth, and when he heard the landlord's answer, he widened his eyes in disbelief.
The little boy seemed to have lost all his strength and became depressed.
He lowered his eyelashes, as if talking to himself, with half a bun in his hand.
"Then where did she go..."
His voice was low and helpless, as if he was about to believe that he was really abandoned.
Wen Yin felt a little sorry when she saw this. She raised her hand and touched the little boy's messy hair, but she couldn't say any words of comfort.
After a while, she looked at the man who was still standing beside her, with a cold and noble temperament, who was out of tune with the noisy environment.
"Mr. Landlord, are you looking for me?"
Wen Yin raised her head slightly, and a few strands of hair on her forehead fell to both sides, revealing her delicate and gentle eyebrows.
The obvious worry in her eyes had not yet faded. When she looked at people so intently, she looked like a saint who loved the world, empathized with all sufferings, and was even willing to take on the sufferings of others.
Sacred and inviolable.
It makes people want to destroy it.
The landlord's Adam's apple moved slightly, and Wen Yin smelled the increasingly strong plant scent again.
"The rental contract has been drafted."
The landlord spoke slowly.
"Come get it from me when you have time. I'm in Room 601."
"Okay, Mr. Landlord." Wen Yin raised her eyes and nodded obediently.
"Also, do you know this little boy and his other family members?"
"He has been unattended for several days."
Wen Yin's hand was still on the little boy's shoulder, a protective gesture.
The landlord's gaze lingered on the little boy's shoulder for a long time. "He has no other family, only his mother takes care of him."
"But you don't have to worry too much," the landlord paused, "He should be able to see his mother soon."
"Really?"
When the little boy heard the landlord's confident words, his eyes suddenly lit up.
"real."
The landlord nodded.
"Soon."
