Chapter 59 Reasons

While driving, Chris briefly told Diana and Ignaz how Auckland joined the Silver Wings and became Lancelot.

"Second evolution?" Diana looked at Auckland sitting opposite her in surprise. Second evolution did happen, but the probability was only one in a thousand. She didn't expect it to happen to Auckland.

"Yes." Oakland kept a faint smile, but all his attention was on the little ball of fur in Hall's arms. The little ball of fur lay obediently in his brother's palm, using his little paws to play the finger-snapping game with his brother. It was so adorable.

Hall probably saw the desire in his eyes, so he had to reluctantly hand his brother over to him.

Auckland seemed to brighten up a bit after finally holding the little ball of fur in his arms as he wished. Diana's mouth twitched a few times, and she roughly guessed why Joey was held out by him.

After a lot of effort, they arrived at the dining place. After Chris parked the car, Hall put his hands in his pockets and walked in front in a cool manner. Chris, Diana and Ignaz followed closely behind. Auckland held the little ball of fur, stroking its fur and teasing the tiger cub, having a lot of fun.

While Auckland wasn't paying attention, Diana quickened her pace, walked over to Hall's side, and whispered, "Boss, why did you help him in the first place?"

It wasn't that Hall shouldn't help Oakland, but Hall had never cared about this 'fiancé' before. Why did he suddenly think so highly of him? While talented heralds were rare, they weren't unheard of. What was so special about this Oakland? And Hall had already helped him several times before Oakland showed any signs of specialness. This wasn't like the boss' style.

Diana is a straightforward person. She would feel uncomfortable if she didn't ask some questions clearly.

Hall glared at her, then turned back to look at Oakland, who was happily playing with the little guy at the back. After making sure that Oakland wouldn't hear their conversation, he said, "Someone wants to kill him."

"What do you mean? Boss, can't you explain it more clearly?" Diana was almost driven crazy by him.

Hall gave her a look of disdain, too lazy to continue talking to her, and walked to the front again.

"Hahaha, Diana, you are so stupid." Chris caught up and made a face at Diana.

"Are you itching for trouble?" Diana waved her fist at him.

"Have you forgotten that last time we were assigned to patrol the 59th star region during our military training?"

"I remember. It was about the students on Anoto being attacked by Zerg. Oh, and I think that was the new student in your school, right?"

"Yeah, a few students died, and the boss got punished after returning home. He was disqualified from serving in the military. What if... the boss's 'fiancé' was one of the students who died that day?"

The marriage contract between Hall Williams and Auckland Campbell was notarized and had legal effect. In principle, Auckland was already half a Williams family member.

However, this unequal marriage has never been favored by anyone. If there was an accident in Auckland that day, after someone exaggerated it, Hall would not have faced the nonsense of "untimely rescue", but all kinds of disgusting slander and attacks.

Chris could even imagine the headlines - 'Hall Williams's failure to rescue in time resulted in heavy casualties, including his fiancé. Was it an accident or intentional?'

No one investigated why the Zerg suddenly appeared in a star field they had clearly scouted and ensured was safe, nor did anyone care to consider the fierce battles they fought to rush to the rescue. The people of the Federation, after all, had limited access to information, and no one noticed any flaws in the process; they only saw the outcome. The dead student and the belated rescue—one a gifted student, the other a fiancé with a woefully unqualified background—had enough implications to fuel a month's worth of gossip.

If Hall Williams were involved in such a vicious incident, General Carter Williams's reputation would certainly be affected, and he would be in an extremely disadvantageous position in the upcoming election...

Although Diana was straightforward, she was not a fool and soon realized that there must be some conspiracy behind this matter.

"Why didn't the boss tell us? We could have helped investigate!"

"Have you forgotten that we have all been disqualified from serving in the military? This matter is not something we can interfere with now, but don't worry, the boss has already told the general about this matter, and I believe the person behind it will be found out soon." Chris patted Diana on the shoulder.

"I hope so..."

The group continued to walk forward quickly. No one noticed that the person at the end, who should have been having fun playing with the little guy, now had a complicated expression on his face...

Auckland truly hadn't meant it. His five senses had only grown stronger with his cultivation, not to mention his already formidable spiritual awareness. They'd probably assumed he had nothing special besides his mental strength and couldn't hear their conversation, so they didn't deliberately lower their voices. He'd inadvertently overheard everything.

It turns out that Hall was worried that someone would harm him, so he repeatedly helped him and asked him to join his team. It was also out of a kind of protection for him, right?

Auckland did not feel that he was being used. No matter what the reason was, Hall's help to him was real. Apart from gratitude, he really couldn't think of anything else.

But if Hall knew that someone had actually attacked him before the Zerg arrived, how would he react? If he hadn't taken over the body of the recently deceased and been rescued by Rachel, those people's conspiracy would have succeeded by now, and Hall might have been pushed to the forefront.

It seems that I should talk to him about this matter when I have the chance...

Soon, they arrived at their destination, which was a barbecue restaurant that sold a variety of grilled meats on the teppanyaki grill. The fragrant smell of meat could be smelled from afar.

"Awoo!" The little fur ball opened its little mouth, and its big eyes stared straight in the direction of the barbecue restaurant, as if its saliva was about to flow out.

"I've been drinking nutrient solution all day and I'm almost going crazy. Today I'm going to eat to my heart's content! Boss, I'll treat you!" Chris said excitedly as soon as he sat down.

Soon, a robot brought up a digital menu, one for each person. They could tick the menu for their desired dish, raw or cooked, and either have it grilled or have it grilled themselves.

"Let me tell you! I'm the best at grilling. You all ordered raw food and I'll grill it for you!" Chris said, patting his chest.

Everyone expressed their doubts about this. Hall glanced at him indifferently and decisively chose to have the store grill the meat and serve it. Everyone else did the same. Only Auckland was more considerate and ordered six cooked barbecues and one raw one.

The raw barbecue was served first. Chris placed the meat slices on the hot iron plate. When the barbecue made a sizzling sound, he brushed a layer of the store's secret barbecue sauce on it, and the aroma immediately wafted out.

"Awoo!" The little guy jumped excitedly on Auckland's legs, stood up by grabbing the edge of the table, and tried to use his short little paws to hook the fragrant barbecue.

"Hey! Be careful of the burns!" Seeing this, Auckland immediately slapped his eager little paws. If he was burned by the iron plate, it would be no joke.

"Ouch..." The little guy cried out in grievance, put his chin on the edge of the table with despair, and stared at the piece of barbecue.

"Oh my, Joey is so adorable." Diana couldn't help but reach out and rub his little head. "Don't worry, our barbecue will be here soon. Don't be fooled by the delicious smell. God knows if Chris will get sick from the barbecue."

"Hey!" Chris glared at her unhappily and turned the barbecue in his hand over.

Fortunately, the barbecue they ordered in Auckland was delivered quickly. There was a full range of fish, animal meat, insect meat, and bird meat.

Auckland picked up a large piece of grilled fish for the little guy, blew it cool carefully, put it in a small plate, and placed it in front of the little guy.

"Awoo!" The little guy shouted happily, squatted beside the plate, and started eating.

"Oh, cute little Joey." Diana's heart almost melted as she glanced at Hall, who was sitting upright and elegantly opposite her. "Boss, were you this cute when you were a child?"

"Cough... cough cough cough..." Hall, who was also eating fish, almost choked to death on the meat in his mouth. He gave Diana a warning look angrily.

Diana raised her hands in surrender. "I was wrong. Let's eat."
