Chapter 117 First Character Card

After finishing her classes for the day, Lian Han logged into Han Jin, completed her tasks for the day, and resolved the issue of her birthday gift. She then decided to go out for a stroll.

She went out dressed in a black tracksuit, with a scorpion on her head and a small fox hanging from her back.

Just as he was passing through the bushes at the corner of the dormitory building, he suddenly stopped in his tracks. The original card in his mind had suddenly started to move.

What other creatures in this vicinity can be collected into cards?

Lian Han was surprised when he heard the system's voice: [Main quest triggered: Create the first character card.]

[You jumped to character cards so quickly?] Old Xing was equally surprised. He himself only came into contact with character cards after becoming a top-level card maker.

Lian Han's gaze fell on the surroundings. Di Luo's landscaping was quite good. The dormitories were surrounded by ornamental trees, and further away there was even a small grove of trees, which was said to be the best place for couples in the Armor Academy to go on dates.

But are there people around here who have become character cards? Why didn't the system give any notification?

[The Beast Card system will directly state the requirements. But Character Cards are more flexible; you need to choose the character to be made into a card yourself.] Old Xing explained, [Look around. There's usually more than one character that qualifies to become a card.]

[Do we really need to make a choice?]

[The first three cards are like this. After that, you can do whatever you want with them. The same goes for the Beast cards; after the first three, even if you use a pet as your card, the system won't care. Come to think of it, if I hadn't missed the chance to train in the wilderness during my freshman year, you'd have a mountain of Beast cards by now.]

Lian Han didn't care about Old Man Xing's regret. She quietly spread her spiritual power and began searching for a target in the surrounding area. She quickly locked onto an unconscious man.

He looked to be in his twenties or thirties, wearing a gray combat uniform and mercenary insignia. It was certain that he had infiltrated Dilo.

But why would he sneak into Dilu? Doesn't he know this is a key protected and observed area by the military? If he gets caught by those law enforcement robots or the military, he could be detained.

As Lian Han was thinking, she noticed the little fox tugging at her trouser leg. Looking down at her, she saw the little creature pointing to the bushes next to her in a very human-like manner.

"Is there something there?"

The little fox nodded quickly and tugged at Lian Han's trouser leg. Through their contract, Lian Han could sense that the little one was very excited and curious, and she became interested as well.

As Lian Han parted the grass, her expression changed. The thick fur, now covered in scabs, had almost lost its original luster, and the two paws were the hands of a human infant—the same one she had seen at the research institute!

Compared to before, the little guy's condition is obviously worse. He has human ears, and the leopard's head fur is sparse, showing a tendency to transform into a human-like shape.

That experiment hasn't stopped yet!

Lian Han was in a foul mood when a light screen appeared in her mind, and the system's voice sounded again: [Please make a choice, host.]

The screen displayed two options: human Chi Meng / half-human Randy, followed by descriptions of their abilities, life stories, and potential for growth.

After reading it carefully, Lian Han paused for a moment, then said, "Old man, I..."

[You can decide your own cards. It's best to choose character cards you like.]

With the old man having no objections, Lian Han felt even more at ease and immediately chose the option of the half-human Randy.

The transparent card appeared in Lian Han's hand. He infused it with his spiritual power, and the half-human, half-leopard creature disappeared. A new pattern appeared on the card.

Lian Han looked at the completed card and was about to return to persuade the little leopard when she saw golden patterns spreading along her fingers, quickly covering the edge of the card.

[Card-making task completed. Task reward: 2 copies of "Intermediate Card-Making Atlas (Fragment)".]

[Congratulations, host! You have completed the Intermediate Card Making Manual. The Advanced Card Making Manual will be available soon.]

Lian Han: ? ? ?

So he spontaneously formed a contract with her? How come this little guy isn't wary of people at all? And the system—when has a mission reward ever included two fragments of a scroll together? Did the system glitch?

[This is a good thing. Don't overthink it. First, anonymously report the mercenary who infiltrated the school, then go back and study the character cards.]

[Oh.] Lian Han also remembered that there was a living person lying next to him, so he opened his smart device and directly selected anonymous reporting through the school's law enforcement system.

Judging from Chi Meng's life story, Lian Han felt no remorse whatsoever for reporting him.

While it's true that many mercenaries accept missions without considering right or wrong in order to survive, Lian Han was particularly disgusted by his acceptance of the mission to capture an escaped experimental subject. The little guy had already been tortured into a monster; did they really want to take him back and continue torturing him?

If we don't report him, who should we report?

With this in mind, Lian Han avoided the surrounding surveillance cameras and returned to dormitory 218 in Building 3 by the same route.

Since Ye Ying wasn't in the living room, Lian Han went straight back to his bedroom. Then he took out the card again.

Even after channeling his spiritual energy, Leopard Randy did not appear, presumably because he needed to recuperate from his previous serious injuries.

[System, identify the card.]

[Intermediate Card, Half-Man Randy]

Attribute: Healing

Effect: Adults can transform between human and animal forms.

Energy state: stable

Durability: Permanent

Overall, it's not bad. Lian Han thought to himself, then put the card back into his mental sea, which was more suitable for recuperating.

Old Xing watched quietly as she chose this half-human. In terms of strength and potential, that human was far superior to this half-human.

However—if Lian Han chooses that person, then she will no longer be Lian Han.

This girl is very rational, but she's also easily moved to tears. Especially since this leopard is the same one she'd seen before, and she'd promised to go find it. Now that the leopard has come looking for her, she certainly can't just stand by and do nothing.

After putting away the cards, Lian Han asked, "[I asked Da and Ling Xin before, and they said the experimental subjects had been properly disposed of. The laboratory is what they mean by 'disposal'?]"

[Definitely not. But Xiaohan, you should know the saying, "For every policy from above, there's a countermeasure from below." While General Ning's orders are mostly implemented, there are exceptions. Secretly leaving one or two to continue experiments—as long as General Ning doesn't find out, who would be so foolish as to go and complain to him?]

After all, this experiment was backed by Führer Senjay Brent—the military and the political establishment rarely interfere with each other.

"I'm not happy about this," Lian Han said in a muffled voice. What she thought was a perfect solution had simply been resolved in a more covert way. If it weren't for Randy's appearance, she might never have known about it.

Old Xing advised, "There are far too many injustices in the world. When you encounter something that bothers you but you feel powerless to change, try writing it down first, and then correct it according to your wishes later."

Lian Han paused for a moment.

"Old man, I understand. But—" the girl drawled, "I feel some things can't be delayed. If I can't do it, then let someone else do it. Consider it a favor I owe him."
