Chapter 134 Recovery Period

When Lian Han woke up again, no one was beside her. They must have been busy with something, Lian Han thought.

Lian Han opened his mouth, "Ning... Jue... Zhan... Zhan Qi."

The situation is much better than yesterday; although it's intermittent, she's finally able to speak.

She tapped her fingers on the headboard, but there was no sound; her hearing hadn't returned. Lian Han tried each of her other senses one by one, confirming that only her sense of touch had returned. It still needed time. But since it could recover on its own, she wasn't in a hurry.

When Ning Jue returned from his rounds, he saw the girl sitting on the bed, looking dazed. She hadn't changed out of her nightgown yet, as if she was waiting for him to come back and dress her.

Ning Jue looked at the girl, his feelings complex. His subordinates respected him, his enemies feared him; this dependence was something he had never experienced before. It reminded him of a distant memory, a time when he too had relied on someone in this way. But—

The bed sank slightly, and Lian Han reached out his hand to him, "Who...are you?"

Ning Jue was surprised. She hadn't spoken for almost a month. Was she finally starting to recover?

Has it recovered?

Lian Han knew someone was holding her hand, but she couldn't clearly make out what the other person was writing. Helplessly, she let go of the hand, saying, "Don't... write, I can't... decipher it."

After a long silence, the girl's voice became hoarse. Ning Jue frowned and fed her water. Lian Han tried to take the cup, but it broke in her hand, spilling water all over her.

Lian Han lowered his head. "I'm sorry... I think I... can't control myself."

Seeing her obedient appearance, Ning Jue sighed and picked her up, putting her in the bathtub. Since she was wet, he might as well wash her.

Half an hour later, Lian Han finished washing up, changed his clothes, and brought him out. Ning Jue was reading the message from his adjutant, "Take a break." The Zerg had been acting strangely lately. Since the New Year, they hadn't launched a single large-scale battle; he wondered what they were planning.

Looking up, Ning Jue saw the robot come out, went in, picked up the person, placed them by the bedside, and fed them water again.

This time, Lian Han dared not move rashly.

After feeding the person, and noticing they were still there, Lian Han asked, "Who are you?"

"Ning Jue." Ning Jue reopened the smart device and answered.

"Never mind, I wouldn't know even if you told me."

Ning Jue remained silent.

Lian Han ignored his reaction; she only knew she was bursting with pent-up emotions, and continued, "This time, Cangming has really messed us up. We'll have to pay him back next time."

Ning Jue wanted to ask what grudge existed between the two, but for now, only she could talk and he could listen. However, her speech had become more intermittent, and the situation was improving.

“Cangming is a madman, but this madman is also invincible in this world. He just wants to…” She was halfway through her sentence when she suddenly sensed a trace of the power of rules and changed her words, “Anyway, the Federation should stay out of his business.”

"Then why do you care about him?" Ning Jue turned her head to look at her.

"I got tricked by someone this time. He lured me to the Demon Abyss, and then ran off with what he wanted. He left me with my five senses deprived and suffering backlash. Once I recover, I'm not letting him get away with this."

Lian Han had been holding it in for too long and wanted to tell everyone everything, but she knew she couldn't reveal her true identity, so she could only talk about things she could.

"General Ning probably went to the Demon Abyss for those cards. If you have time, tell him that it's impossible for me to return them to the Federation, and I can't get them out either. Anyway, the owner of those cards is gone, and keeping them is just a hazard. Let him keep them as cards; neither I nor he will misuse them."

Ning Jue raised an eyebrow. Now she's admitting it? This girl is indeed not as harmless as she looks. However, as for why Die didn't think he was Ning Jue, he pondered for a moment and guessed that she thought a general with so many affairs to attend to wouldn't have the time and energy to take care of her.

Ning Jue suddenly wondered what the girl's reaction would be if he were the first person she saw after she recovered.

"The first time someone encountered a Zerg race capable of disguising themselves as humans, and learned from others that they were humanoid Zerg, they were almost furious." Recalling how the old man nearly swore at the time, Lian Han's eyes crinkled into a smile. "He directly called the military high command bastards, asking why humans aren't called Zerg-like humans."

"You want to ask about something related to the high-ranking military officials, right? Well, you don't know, the Zerg shouldn't actually be called the Zerg. The truly advanced life forms among them all exist in a form similar to humans; perhaps the rules favor this appearance."

"You mean to say that the Zerg are in the form of insects, even the Overlords? That's their armor, like a mech. If you don't believe me, have General Ning capture one next time he goes to war—hmm, that seems a bit difficult. The Zerg believe in 'better to die than live in dishonor,' and if they find they can't escape, they usually activate their self-destruct device, taking a bunch of others down with them even if they die."

"Isn't it the Zerg that can transform into human form?" Ning Jue frowned; what she said had overturned his understanding.

But the girl's confident demeanor didn't seem to be faking it.

Lian Han added, "Someone told me all of this. But he's so annoying. I wanted him to explain in detail, but he wouldn't. He insisted that I experience it for myself. Fine, go ahead. You think it's fun to just go on a few-day trip to the Zerg? I want to see what the Zerg are really like."

Even now, she still won't stop. Ning Jue tapped her forehead, wanting to lecture her, but then realized she couldn't hear him and had to give up. However, hearing the warmth and trust in her words towards that "someone," Ning Jue felt a pang of unease.

"When I get better, please tell me your name, okay? It's been a long time since anyone has taken such good care of me."

"Okay." Ning Jue nodded.

"Before I came to the Demon Abyss, a girl suddenly ran into my arms. That child should be on some warship now. I hope she..."

The girl being mentioned, Pei Sumei, was walking down an unfamiliar street. A black cloak concealed her appearance, but her short stature, which clearly revealed her age, was impossible to hide.

Feeling the watchful eyes of those around her, Pei Sumei already regretted it. Why did she listen to Xiao Ya and come to a place like this?

This is Tristar, a sinful star that even the Federation doesn't care about!

Even though she's already an A-level student, she's still a child at heart. It takes immense courage for her not to cry under such harsh stares.

[Xiao Mei, don't be afraid! They won't dare to do anything to you.] Xiao Ya from the energy system encouraged her.

[You're not the one being coveted.] Pei Sumei's tone was harsh. [If there weren't any energy mines here, I'd kill you!]

[There definitely is. This energy mine is the key to ensuring Xiaoya won't be eliminated by the advanced system. Why would I lie to you?]

[Shut up! That elf sister saved me; she clearly meant no harm.]

[Having no malicious intent and not killing us are two different things. Even if she didn't want to kill us, her system wouldn't be happy about it.]

Pei Sumei glanced again at the menacing crowd lining the street, secretly resenting the absence of hovercars, and sneered, "I don't believe you for a second."

[It is obvious.] Xiao Ya muttered to himself. Since he was born, he'd never had a system he could get along with...
