"Let's go to the oasis first."
"What oasis are you talking about? Is it on the map?" Xi Yao asked.
The two exchanged a glance, and Yi Jun took the initiative to say, "I'm sorry, it was my mistake in command. I shouldn't have failed to check the map; I only realized it now..."
"Let's go once we've rested enough," Lian Han interrupted him. "Commander, which way should we go now?"
"Southeast, turn 45 degrees to the right," Yi Jun said quickly, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"Let's go then."
"You go ahead of me," Li Yingmo said, glancing at Xi Yao.
"Uh, okay." Xi Yao was a little embarrassed, but she knew she had delayed.
The four of them set off again.
Unfortunately, they walked until dark without seeing any sign of the oasis and had to stop to rest.
Nighttime is not a good time to travel.
Li Yingmo asked Lian Han for snake meat, processed it simply, took a small barbecue grill, cut it into pieces, and put it in.
Yi Jun was surprised, "Why are you still carrying this?"
"Essential for wilderness survival. I didn't take it with me last time." Fan Tu went to the Skynet most often, and the most frequent places were dangerous areas.
"Shui Yiyue, with your abilities, why don't you learn how to build mechs?" Yi Jun suddenly asked. A day was enough for them to understand each other's strengths.
"Because I like it." Lian Han's eyes crinkled as she mentioned this.
She hadn't felt this way before, but her sparring match with Cui Zhi had given her a real sense of accomplishment, and she found armor crafting much more fun than card games. After all, one involved learning knowledge and creating independently, while the other was simply using existing cards; the difference in quality was easy to discern.
"So he married his hobby."
"You're quite something, aren't you? Your fighting skills are pretty good too, why don't you become a mecha pilot?"
Yi Jun smiled, and his reason was even more capricious: "Back then, there were some very annoying people in Diluo's mecha department."
"You graduated from Diluo University in the capital city? That's amazing!" Xi Yao exclaimed in surprise.
"I got into Dilu, but unfortunately I didn't stay until graduation."
Lian Han raised an eyebrow. "That really suits your personality."
"You talk as if you know me very well?" Yi Jun looked at her.
Lian Han smiled but remained silent. She couldn't really say she knew him; this was only their second meeting. But she knew Yi Jun well—she had later learned about his deeds from Ling Xin and the others—he was an extremely unruly genius.
"Then why didn't you stay until graduation?" Xi Yao asked curiously.
I'll tell you when I have the chance.
"Looks like there's a story behind this. I'll definitely listen if I get the chance. Alright, come and eat, everyone." Lian Han saw that Li Yingmo had finished grilling, so he used a dagger to pick up a piece and then stepped aside.
"Thank you." Yi Jun followed suit and also took a dagger.
Although he prefers swords, daggers, like energy swords, are standard equipment on his combat suit, so he also has them.
"Don't you have any cutlery?" Xi Yao asked, looking somewhat embarrassed.
"You want to use tableware in the wild? Forget it," Li Yingmo replied.
Xi Yao pouted, then saw Yi Jun and Xi Yao each take a piece to eat. Thinking there were still two days left, Xi Yao gritted her teeth and also took a piece. Fortunately, the grill had seasonings, and the taste was pretty good, but everyone felt thirsty.
Lian Han will stay up for the first half of the night, and Li Yingmo will take over for the second half.
After all, having two A-level officers on night watch is clearly not a good decision, and there might be problems tomorrow.
As night deepened, Lian Han glanced at the three people beside her, activated her smart device, and tried to contact someone. As expected, she couldn't reach them. She still didn't understand the purpose of this selection; she could only tell it seemed to be related to practical combat.
So boring...
The Skynet AI seemed to have heard her thoughts and took action. Soon, Lian Han no longer felt bored, but rather felt a chill run down her spine.
"Get up, everyone!" Lian Han hurriedly woke up the sleeping few.
"What happened?" Li Yingmo, who was in a light sleep, was the first to wake up.
"What's wrong? It's not even dawn yet," Xi Yao said in a displeased tone.
"Take them towards the oasis! Immediately!" Lian Han glanced at Li Yingmo and walked in a certain direction. "I will catch up with you as soon as possible."
"Traveling in the middle of the night, don't you have any..." Xi Yao's voice trailed off. The two people in the desert were fleeing in a very disheveled state, and the greenish things behind them could definitely not be plants!
The two men seemed to have spotted them too, and were running towards this location, clearly intending to make them face off against that group of things.
Having already recognized the species, Li Yingmo frowned, a hint of worry in his eyes. "Get up, everyone, and leave immediately."
"That water is delightful..."
Li Yingmo hugged Lian Han and said softly, "Be careful."
"Don't worry, I'll definitely come back alive to see you." Lian Han's eyes curved into a smile as he thought about their current identities.
"Let's go then. In the same direction?" Yi Jun asked.
"yes."
Seeing them leave, Lian Han's gaze fell on the two fleeing individuals, her expression slightly grave. She had her reasons for staying behind to cover their retreat; she could still borrow the venom of Little Scorpion Number 1.
Ghost Scorpions—don't let the name fool you, it aptly describes the characteristics of these scorpions: they appear silently and only at night, like ghosts. Furthermore, Ghost Scorpions are extremely effective against mental attacks.
As the two figures approached, Lian Han conjured a water sphere in his hand and said coldly, "Stop! Change direction!"
The two men, who had initially intended to plead for help, suddenly changed their expressions and said maliciously, "You're dreaming. Since you've chosen to stay and play the hero, then we'll all die together!"
Lian Han sneered. Since they had this attitude, she would help them. The water ball in her palm, mixed with a hint of dark green that wasn't very noticeable in the night, was then thrown at the two of them.
"With this kind of force, are you giving us a bath?"
"Exactly. You look pretty, but I never expected... uh." The man's voice trailed off as he looked down at the spot where the water had splashed on him. Normal skin was now ulcerating and festering, causing him excruciating pain. "You bitch! You dare use poison?"
Lian Han smiled and then stepped back. Since it was a selection process, she didn't feel the need to show mercy to others; after all, dying once in Skynet wasn't a real death.
Suddenly, Lian Han jumped back again, and a sharp arrow landed at her previous position!
There are still people here?
Xie Shi missed his first attack and was about to change positions when he noticed that the girl had disappeared. Just as a sense of vigilance arose in his heart, he felt a chill on his neck, and the dagger was gleaming with an eerie light.
"Are they in cahoots?" Qi Yan asked quietly, observing the scorpion's condition.
"Sigh, how could we have such terrible teammates?" Xie Shi chuckled, trying to salvage his dignity.
"That makes sense. How could an ordinary contestant possibly drive away a ghostly scorpion that could harm people?"
Xie Shi's expression changed. "I didn't say anything!"
Lian Han smiled and said, "Yes, you didn't say anything." Shouldn't he normally play innocent? His reflexive statement that he didn't say anything—is he an idiot?
"You still have..."
Xing Yucheng suddenly spoke, his expression grave, "[Girl, someone's dead!]"
Lian Han glanced at the two unfortunate souls; they had indeed been devoured by the swarm of scorpions. [Death on the Skynet should be...]
[But they died in real life too!]
