"who?"
General Ning's gaze sharpened. He hadn't sensed anyone?
"Still a 3S? You're really lucky." The voice grew closer, and they finally saw the person clearly. The man was dressed in a retro blue shirt, with red eyes and black hair, looking like a figure who had stepped out of a painting.
It's beautiful, but isn't this ancient attire? It feels like we're from a completely different world. The only good thing is the voice. Lian Han thought.
"Who are you?"
"Since you asked, little beauty, I'll tell you. Cangming—that's my name."
"Never heard of it." Lian Han blinked.
“This is not your fault. After all, I have existed for too long.” The man was not surprised by her words. “Twelve years. I have finally found someone with the potential for immortality again.”
"Immortality? You must still be dreaming." Lian Han's lips twitched.
Faced with her doubts, Cangming showed rare patience. "People who don't know me will think I'm dreaming, including the last person with the potential for immortality. What was his name again? I think his surname was Xing."
"Are you talking about His Majesty Juecheng?" Ning Jue asked.
He was angry. This realization surprised even Lian Han herself. Why was she so sensitive when Ning Jue was angry?
"I think there was such a title, but he still died in the end. Who told him—to reject me?"
These words touched on the taboos of both of them.
Lian Han had long heard from the old man that the Blood Nether Flower had been involved in his death. But Ning Jue was completely unaware of this. Upon hearing it, he had already sentenced the other party to death, although his years of shrewdness did not make him show it.
"Is His Majesty Juecheng's death related to you?"
"There's a bit of a backstory. So, young lady, are you going to refuse me, refuse immortality?"
Lian Han looked at him coldly, "I don't believe anyone can live forever."
A wise answer. Ning Jue thought. They hadn't noticed the other party's space appearing at all; the only thing that could deceive the 3S's senses was…
"I don't need your belief." The man's lips curled into a sinister smile. "The last one was discovered too late; there won't be any more surprises this time. Actually, even if you refuse, it won't matter, because I won't allow this to happen."
An ominous feeling permeated Lian Han's heart. Then she felt her foot touch something, a blood-red insectoid race she had never seen before—or rather, she hadn't seen it before, because it looked unfamiliar to her, but a familiar sense of fear welled up in her heart, a fear that was unforgettable, deep in her bones, and had finally been forgotten.
"don't want!"
Lian Han felt a series of throbbing pains in his brain, and countless images rushed into his mind: blood, screams, death, all intertwined and turning into blood-red worms.
All the insects crawled toward her, just like the nightmare she had when she was eight years old...
"What's wrong?" Ning Jue grabbed Lian Han's shoulders. "Lian Han!"
However, it was no use. The girl seemed to be possessed, staring intently at the insects on the ground, her eyes filled with fear, disgust, and even numbness.
What happened?
"What did you do?" Ning Jue asked the man who called himself Cangming.
The man seemed somewhat surprised. "It wasn't me. But I roughly know what happened to her. It's amazing she escaped; she's incredibly lucky. But thankfully she escaped, otherwise who would keep me company?"
"What's the meaning?"
"Take a look first. Is there a mark of a bloodworm on the back of her hand?" Cangming asked.
Ning Jue looked at the girl's hands, which were covering her head, and found a blood-red worm on the back of her right hand, almost a miniature version of the blood worm on the ground.
"What's this?"
“A mark. Anyone marked with this mark is food for bloodworms. No wonder this one came out; it smelled the aroma of food.” Cangming said, raising his hand. The worm that had provoked Lian Han turned into a ball of blood light and disappeared into his sleeve.
Food? Ning Jue looked at Lian Han again, her mind full of questions.
What exactly did she go through?
However, even after the insects were removed, the girl's condition did not improve at all; she seemed to be trapped in a nightmare.
Cangming said softly, "Poor little thing, the insects have finished feeding."
"It's over?" Lian Han was stunned for a moment, the fear in his eyes gradually disappearing. He looked at Cang Ming again, his voice filled with chilling killing intent, "You deserve to die!"
“You do have reason to hate me. I bred the bloodworms and I delivered them to humans. However, now that the bloodworm mark has appeared, it means you'll have to have your bones dug out and your blood drained again. Come with me, and I can help you remove that mark that you hate so much.”
"You're dreaming!"
The girl sneered. Anger and hatred had broken through the barriers of reason the moment she thought of it. All she knew was that she and they were mortal enemies!
Noticing that something was wrong with her, Ning Jue frowned. "Calm down."
Lian Han looked up at him, and his lifeless eyes startled even a man accustomed to battlefields and carnage.
With her last shred of reason, the girl tore off the red Scarlet Night necklace from her neck, stuffed it into Ning Jue's hand, and then took out a card, activating her mental power.
"Good luck."
To the man's astonishment, a black hole engulfed him.
"What do you want to do?" Cangming looked at her with great interest.
"I want you dead!" A blue-purple light surged forth and then dissipated. The girl had undergone a dramatic transformation, now sporting blue hair, golden eyes, pointed ears, and a long purple dress. The blue-purple butterfly wings behind her made her look stunning, like an elf who had strayed into the mortal world.
"What's this? I remember now, that kid Xing seemed to have this condition too, so you two are indeed related? This is getting more and more interesting."
