Chapter 17 The Ling Family

"No. Your brother will come back the day after tomorrow and pick you up first."

"Brother?"

“It’s your eldest brother, Ling Xin,” Rong Qi explained.

"Why not just have Young Master Ling come and pick us up?"

"The eldest son simply believes that the second son's communication skills need improvement."

Afraid he'd drive me away? Lian Han glanced at Ling Yue again, his lips twitching, having formed a preliminary impression of the two sons of the Ling family.

"So, what's today?"

"The fact that you were attacked here means that this place is no longer safe. It would be safer to take you back as soon as possible."

"I am Lian Han, and I don't plan to change my name for the time being."

Ling Yue: "Okay."

Who attacked me?

"Under investigation."

Will similar situations occur again in the future?

"meeting."

Rong Qi: ...

[Tsk! That straightforward kid from the Ling family, I think I know why his brother didn't let him come.] Old Man Xing sighed.

Lian Han's eyes crinkled into a smile, "I don't remember most of what happened when I was little. If I'm not happy in the Ling family, and I run away one day..."

"Won't."

No? Will you not let her go, or...?

"The second young master means that he will not let the young lady be unhappy."

"Oh." Lian Han nodded, understanding why he had brought two people with him—for language translation.

"Let's go."

"Walk?"

“Let’s go. Please, Miss.” Rong Qi reacted quickly.

[Is that all?]

[otherwise? ]

The Ling family's previous account had many loopholes, but most of them were due to problems with her own memories.

Besides, even if she doesn't return to the Ling family, wouldn't a situation like the previous mecha attack still occur? Now that the enemy knows her background, the chances of them letting her go are too low. Returning to the Ling family is relatively safer. At least they can help her find out who wants her dead.

So from a rational point of view, as long as the Ling family's attitude isn't too bad, she will go back to the Ling family.

But if things really go too badly, for Lian Han, it's just a matter of changing his identity and retaking the Imperial Examination next year. In this era of absolute privacy, Lian Han, with his system-issued name-change card, has nothing to fear…

After crossing a river, the car drove through the ornate iron gate. The white pillars stood tall and majestic, the marble swirled with snow-white patterns, and the ebony doors and windows were all exquisitely carved. The villa was nestled among the trees, which further accentuated its grandeur and magnificence. In front of the villa was a circular fountain pool, in the center of which was a statue of a beautiful woman with delicate features and a bewitching smile.

“This is our family,” Rong Qi said. Although he felt it would be more atmospheric for the Second Young Master to say this, considering the Second Young Master’s taciturn nature and cold demeanor—he decided against it.

"Who is she?" Lian Han's gaze fell on the statue in the fountain. If she were to remove her mask now, she would find that she bore a striking resemblance to that woman.

Rong Qi glanced at Ling Yue and said in a low voice, "It's Madam Ling."

"Mother?"

“Yes. He’s not here,” Ling Yue said.

Lian Han looked directly at Rong Qi, who explained, "Madam has been away from home for many years and there has been no news of her."

Lian Han: "...So the Ling family only has three men left now?"

“The patriarch is stationed in the Southern Region and is away from home for most of the year,” Rong Qi said.

Remembering that he had said the eldest son of the Ling family would be returning the day after tomorrow, Lian Han suddenly felt much more relaxed. The Ling family had no collateral branches, and the patriarch's sister was stationed at the main family's location, so she only needed to deal with Ling Yue for the next two days.

"Get in." The car stopped in front of the villa, and Ling Yue opened the car door.

Lian Han followed him, but upon entering the living room, she realized that the two people from before were not with them. "Where are they?"

"Go and report."

Lian Han took a moment to process what had happened and guessed that the attackers were probably going to report to the family head or the eldest son about the attack.

Following Ling Yue upstairs, the two stopped in front of a room. "Your room."

"Thank you." Lian Han raised an eyebrow and pushed open the door. He was immediately shocked by the pink and delicate colors; large and small plush toys covered the entire bed.

After that, the wall cabinet was filled with various mecha models, probably her childhood toys? There was also a wardrobe, but Lian Han didn't want to look at it anymore; it was predictable that it was also pink inside.

“The room hasn’t been moved. Childishness can be corrected.” Noticing the surprise in her eyes, Ling Yue clenched her fists even tighter.

"Let me take a look first," Lian Han said, her eyes crinkling with a smile. She was quite curious about what she looked like before she was four years old.

"Don't be shy."

"Okay, I understand." Lian Han thought for a moment, raised his hand, and the mask on his face immediately turned into a card. "I usually wear a mask because I'm afraid of the hassle."

Ling Yue was stunned, staring intently at her face. They looked so alike?

"What’s wrong with you?"

Ling Yue snapped out of her reverie. "Rest, I'll call you for dinner." With that, she went downstairs.

Lian Han: ...Why are you walking so fast? It's like you're running away in a panic. But she's not ugly.

But now that Ling Yue is gone, Lian Han can only look after his own room. When he notices that most of the decorations in the room are related to pink rabbits, Lian Han feels embarrassed. Kids probably only like these kinds of things.

"So this is what you're really like, Lian Han," Old Man Xing said jokingly.

[If a child doesn't like these things, should they prefer something serious and rigid? Besides, this was decorated by family members, right?] Lian Han let go, allowing the little fox to leap onto the bed, and continued to survey the room.

[So how would you like to change it?]

[Put away all the plush toys, change the pink ones to blue or purple, that's fine. I'm lazy.]

[You really are...] Old Man Xing paused, then followed Lian Han's gaze to the photo on the bedside table.

It's a group photo.
