Chapter 233 We Don’t Forget the Past, We Just Replace

Aunt Song and the neighbors sent over a lot of home-grown vegetables, and with the meat that Jiang Zhining secretly took out from the space, they could make a delicious meal tonight.

Song Yuzhou wanted to cook, but was stopped by Jiang Zhining.

"Xixi and Song Ye don't know any relatives, so you can take them around." Jiang Zhining suddenly suggested, "Song Chen, can you cook with me tonight?"

Song Chen looked at her in confusion and nodded slightly.

Looking at her expression, Song Yuzhou felt that Jiang Zhining must have some plan.

So without asking any more questions, he took Xixi and Song Ye to visit relatives at home.

For a moment, Jiang Zhining and Song Chen were the only ones at home.

"What do you want to eat for dinner?" Jiang Zhining was a little confused looking at so many vegetables.

Song Chen said calmly, "I can do anything. I can also cook dishes that Xiaoye and Xixi like."

Hearing this, Jiang Zhining raised her eyes: "What about you? What do you like to eat?"

Song Chen shook his head.

"No favorite?"

"My preference is not important." Song Chen replied simply, "As long as I can eat enough, that's enough."

He had experienced days of hunger, so he would eat anything as long as it filled his stomach.

In the past, because of her complaints about his father, his biological mother made him do all the housework and then let him go hungry for three days.

It was not until he fainted and was discovered by his neighbors that he had food to eat.

But the price was a beating.

Thinking of that, Song Chen's eyes became even colder.

"That won't do. You're my son. Whatever Xixi and Xiaoye have, you have to have too." Jiang Zhining said mischievously, "If you don't tell me what you like to eat, then we'll all eat white rice tonight."

Song Chen stared at her blankly. Something flickered in his dark eyes.

After a while, Song Chen finally replied softly, "I like your stir-fried green beans."

"You should have told me earlier. This is easy." Jiang Zhining said, and found green beans from a pile of vegetables.

"Mom." Song Chen called her.

Jiang Zhining turned around: "What's the matter?"

"Thank you." Song Chen thanked him somewhat awkwardly.

Jiang Zhining tapped his forehead and said, "I'm your mother. We're all family, so why would we say thank you? Come on, help me and make a delicious meal tonight. Think about what else you want to eat."

Song Chen nodded and replied, "I still want to eat stewed pot, but forget it if there is no base. I also want to eat fried eggs."

"Poached eggs? Brat, why do you want to eat this?"

"I hadn't eaten for three days, so my aunt made me a fried egg. It was dipped in vinegar and it was delicious." Song Chen answered truthfully.

Jiang Zhining's heart skipped a beat.

Looking at his calm expression, Jiang Zhining squatted down and hugged him.

Song Chen opened his eyes in surprise.

"I'm here for you from now on. I won't let you go hungry." Jiang Zhining stroked his head.

Song Chen's body was stiff, and he opened his mouth, but no words came out.

After holding him for a while, Jiang Zhining finally let him go: "We have to hurry, otherwise your brothers and sisters will go hungry."

Song Chen's expression finally relaxed: "Okay."

Afterwards, Jiang Zhining took charge of cooking and Song Chen was responsible for assisting.

The kitchen knife at home hadn't been used for a long time and was not sharp enough, so Song Chen had some difficulty cutting.

As a result, he exerted too much force and the kitchen knife lost its stability, cutting his finger directly.

Hearing the sound, Jiang Zhining quickly turned around: "What's wrong?"

"My hand was cut." Song Chen answered simply, as if he was talking about something very ordinary.

Jiang Zhining was startled: "Why are you so careless? Let me take a look."

Holding his hand, Jiang Zhining hurriedly checked his injuries.

The cut on the finger was quite large and bleeding constantly.

Seeing this, Jiang Zhining quickly put his hand into her mouth and sucked it hard a few times.

Song Chen stared at her blankly. The scene before him and the memory in his mind were difficult to overlap.

Seeing that the bleeding had finally stopped, Jiang Zhining asked, "Do you have any band-aids at home? Where are they?"

Song Chen pointed to the tall cabinet: "It seems to be there."

Jiang Zhining opened the cabinet, which was dark and a bit messy.

Jiang Zhining fumbled for a long time before she found a Band-Aid.

"What?" Song Chen looked at her in confusion.

"Of course I taped it up. It's such a big cut, it would be so painful if it got wet."

Jiang Zhining explained while putting the Band-Aid on him.

Song Chen didn't say anything, just looked at him steadily.

After bandaging the wound, Jiang Zhining looked at him: "Have you been injured before?"

"Yeah. I was just learning how to use a kitchen knife at the time, and I got hurt a few times. She said I was stupid and couldn't do even the smallest things properly."

Seeing him raise this with empty eyes, Jiang Zhining felt a lump in her throat.

She had read in social news that children with similar experiences as Song Chen needed to spend their entire lives healing the trauma left by their childhood.

"Who said you're stupid? You're the smartest kid I've ever met." Jiang Zhining praised him highly. "You're very sensible, excellent, and smart."

A flame of hope slowly flickered in those gloomy eyes.

He often receives positive affirmation from Jiang Zhining.

Song Chen lowered his head quickly, feeling a little pain in his eyes. Just as he was about to pick up the kitchen knife, he was stopped.

"Let me do it. You are injured now, so sit down and rest." Jiang Zhining took the kitchen knife.

"It's just a minor injury, it's okay."

Pressing his shoulder, Jiang Zhining said seriously, "You need to rest too. You are my son, not free labor."

Song Chen's eyes became hot and he raised his head.

Seeing that the time was almost right, Jiang Zhining squatted down and looked him in the eye: "Song Chen, have you ever blamed your mother?"
