Chapter 118 Cracks (Part 3)
Mingyu breathed a sigh of relief.
He was indeed afraid.
Whether it was the lingering echo of his near-death escape, or the possibility of starving to death of thirst and dying in this space crack with Mu Baixing, or everything he experienced at the Ming family dinner today, and the chip information that Albin showed him.
There is also speculation that Ming Zhuofeng may have become a high-level black tide creature.
Mingyu's mind was filled with too many things, all of which were far beyond his daily routine and more shocking than his experiences in the Star Navigation Competition and Labyrinth Star.
It made him afraid and at a loss.
The young man obeyed and remained quiet for a moment.
The two were very close, Mingyu leaned against Mu Baixing's chest and heard his steady and strong heartbeat.
Mu Baixing's body temperature brought him some comfort. The man's palm fell on his head, stroking the top of his hair. His movements were intimate and full of soothing meaning.
Mingyu pulled his arm down and pinched Mu Baixing's fingers, as if he were using some kind of stress-relieving device. Mu Baixing didn't say anything, just letting him pinch his fingers back and forth.
"Advanced Kuroshio creatures are highly intelligent and possess powerful simulation capabilities." After a moment, he began with his most important discovery. "They can simulate the mental abilities of parasitic humans, emulate their daily routines, and possess their memories."
"Even... in their eyes, those humans are 'themselves' from a past period of time."
Mingyu lowered his eyes and recalled the words "I am Albin" spoken by the high-level black tide creature.
"They consider themselves to be a continuation of life from the human period."
The young man played with Mu Baixing's fingertips, and after a moment of silence, he whispered, "Ming Zhuofeng."
"That high-level Black Tide creature said that Ming Zhuofeng's body was also parasitized. He...it is also a member of the high-level Black Tide creatures and planned and launched the attack on the Ming family."
"It was Ming Zhilang who replaced his mental domain soothing agent, which led to his death from mental domain overload during the Battle of Dawn." Ming Yu's voice trembled slightly. "My grandfather left behind a lot of information recording Ming Zhilang's crimes."
When he first saw the chip data, the voices and words had only flashed through his mind. He suppressed all his emotions and tried his best to focus on the more threatening Albin.
Now, with that advanced black tide creature no longer in sight, those emotions came flooding back again.
Anger, pain, regret, confusion...
Mingyu couldn't help but pause his hand movements.
Mu Baixing hooked Mingyu's fingers and interlocked theirs.
"Have you got the evidence?" The man's voice remained calm.
"Of course." Mingyu smiled briefly. "I took the data chip box. But the energy fluctuations just now were too strong. I guess I need to repair it before I can make the data public..."
"We'd better survive and bring the information back to the Central Star Region... Otherwise, Ming Zhilang and Zhao Ying will get away with it too easily."
Mu Baixing responded: "But this is not what you are most afraid of."
"Of course." Mingyu came back to his senses and began to pinch Mu Baixing's fingertips again.
"I'm afraid of Albin... that black tide creature. I'm afraid what it says is true."
"I'm afraid it was General Ming Zhuofeng who orchestrated this attack."
"Ming Zhilang and Zhao Ying certainly deserved to die, but my grandfather... my grandfather's caregiver, the real Albin, the guests invited to the Ming family manor, and later... Brother Mu, did you see it? The others of their kind who infiltrated the capital planet with Albin. I don't know whose bodies they used, but those people probably had nothing to do with the Ming family."
"In addition to these people, those high-level black tide creatures may have caused casualties among other innocent people."
"Furthermore, the recent Black Super Days have been short, and the Black Tide's energy has increased... Perhaps the advanced Black Tide creatures are indeed making special moves. Their purpose might be more than just revenge against the Ming family."
"If the Black Tide and humans go to war again, if it really is Ming Zhuofeng, if it appears in Ming Zhuofeng's guise and invades the human star domain..."
Mu Baixing had both of his hands held by Mingyu, so he tilted his head and gently kissed the side of Mingyu's face.
"You're afraid that the people of the human star region will lose their morale and suffer a setback, and you're also afraid that the dragon slayer will turn into a vicious dragon."
"Brother Mu," Ming Yu whispered, "It's a good thing that General Ming Zhuofeng's life can be extended."
"But because I'm human, I can't accept him becoming a predator that kills humans because of selfishness."
Mu Baixing: "It's not selfish."
"Mingyu, I can't answer the first point for now. But as for the second point, I think you don't have to worry."
"You are who you are not because you look like this, nor because you possess this kind of mental wavelength, nor because you possess all the memories of your past experiences."
"What exactly is each individual's unique 'special identification code'? This is not my area of expertise. Personality isn't static, but some essential qualities remain unchanged."
"Just like you, no matter how much injustice you have experienced, you will never kill innocent people."
"The same goes for Ming Zhuofeng."
"The Kuroshio creatures may believe they are the continuation of human life."
"But the moment a person's consciousness dissolves, that is indeed their death."
The man said calmly, "Besides, I don't think the high-level black tide creature you mentioned was really born from Ming Zhuofeng's body."
"The consequences of a mental overload are severe, capable of completely destroying the mental domain, brain structure, and the body's organ structure within minutes."
"According to 'Albin', this type of birth requires the Black Tide energy to assimilate the spiritual realm, and then be sent into the mother body of the Black Tide creature... But based on Ming Zhuofeng's condition at the time, his spiritual realm should have been completely shattered."
Mingyu: “…Yes.”
The young man's eyes felt a little sore.
Ming Zhuofeng's aircraft carrier, Poseidon, disappeared into the Black Current Star Sea due to inertia without any operator. To this day, no one has found Ming Zhuofeng's body.
But if they found it, they would surely see a horrific sight of torn flesh.
Ming Zhuofeng's spiritual realm and brain must have been shattered by the fierce energy shock. The strong energy shock wave would break through his skin and bones, leaving him in pieces...
Mingyu: "Brother Mu, now that you say that, I feel even more sad."
Mu Baixing curled the corners of his lips helplessly.
"Ming Zhuofeng must have preferred to die in this way rather than becoming a Black Tide creature."
He whispered, "When we step onto the battlefield, we will be ready."
"Attacks from the enemy, betrayal from our own kind... We have imagined every possibility. Death is the price we have already placed on the table."
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu remembered that Mu Baixing had also participated in the Battle of Dawn. He froze for a moment, then sniffed and said angrily, "...I'm even more sad! Can you say something nice to comfort me?"
Mu Baixing was speechless for a rare moment.
He was a man of few words and never said anything against his will. Even if he wanted to comply with the young man's request and say something to cheer Mingyu up, he couldn't think of any other words to use.
He never does these things.
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu was so angry that he pried open his fingers, pulled his arms apart to the left and right, put Mu Baixing's hands back into the man's pocket, and tried to break free from Mu Baixing's arms.
However, immediately afterwards, Mingyu felt something furry and warm in the man's right pocket.
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu: “???”
Mu Baixing: “?”
The two of them lowered their heads and watched the bird, which was smaller than Mu Baixing's palm, poke its head out.
"...Chirp!" The firebird cub stared with its black eyes and cried out guiltily.
It had broken free from Red Hair's grip! It had first smuggled itself into Cui Xiaoduo's pocket! Then it seized the opportunity to jump back onto Mu Baixing!
Are you kidding! The energy on the person Mu Boxing entrusted him to didn't smell good at all! And the red-haired person behind him didn't smell like food at all! Of course he had to follow his "parents" closely!
Mingyu: “…”
Mu Baixing: “…”
"...Brother Mu." Mingyu picked up the little bird that had been hiding for a long time and looked like it was suffocating, and watched it chirping non-stop, feeling complicated.
"How did you take care of the cub?" the young man said with difficulty. "How come you didn't even know it had smuggled into your pocket!"
Mu Baixing: “…”
The man lowered his eyes, gathered a little mental energy and stuffed it into the little firebird.
"I'm sorry," he said seriously, "I was so focused on you that I ignored everything else."
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu leaned back on Mu Baixing's shoulder with a bang.
"Brother Mu." He said seriously, "You are speaking sweet words again now..."
"brush……"
Before he could finish his sigh, the aircraft, which had been moving forward steadily since entering the space-time rift, began to vibrate violently.
At the same time, a strange sound was heard outside the narrow aircraft.
Mingyu immediately stopped talking and quickly put the bird back into Mu Baixing's pocket.
What he heard was the sound waves that were distorted again after several echoes and entered his ears, but it still sounded somewhat like the sound of a moth's wings flapping.
Mingyu now feels a little traumatized by such voices.
He immediately turned his head and looked at the scenery outside the aircraft.
The original cosmic scene changed again at some point and turned into a thick black.
The vast expanse of black was not still, but surged like waves at night.
In Mingyu's eyes, a hint of other colors appeared in the flowing black.
That is the ultimate white.
An oval spot of white, like a drop of inverted ink, shimmered within the black, spreading into a date-pit shape with pointed ends. And yet another new bit of black gathered within the white.
It was as if an eyeball was rolling out from its narrow eye socket and looking into the interior of the aircraft.
Mingyu: “…”
There seemed to be a reflection of fine scales on the eye, like the pattern on the wings of the moth that flew out of Albin's eye socket...the one that belonged to the "father" that Albin mentioned.
This seemed to be a moth much larger than the one released from Albin's body.
With the sound of twisting wings, the eye watched the angle of the aircraft change in the tremor, and finally turned into a narrow gap as the moth's wings folded.
Deep and light black colors flowed outside the pipe of the space crack, as if several insect legs were climbing up the outer edge of the pipe. With an even more terrifying rustling sound, Mingyu saw tentacles that were even darker than the surrounding darkness.
The slender, sharp tentacles carrying the black tide's energy seemed to sense the location of the spatial crack and probed forward tentatively.
“Boom.”
The tip of the tentacle hit the metal glass window of the aircraft hard, leaving a trail of black slime and creating new cracks.
