Chapter 21 History of Starship Design
“Beep beep beep—”
A series of whistles blared from the communication bracelet. The sky brightened, and golden sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, illuminating Mingyu's face.
Mingyu: “…”
He was half asleep, curled up in his quilt, squinting and reaching out to turn off the alarm. But three minutes later, the loud whistle sounded again in the room.
This is the reminder tone Mingyu set for the alarm clock himself.
The young man on the bed realized this. He finally gave up struggling, sat up with his short hair messed up from sleep, and yawned.
"Why did I set the alarm today?" Mingyu was still not fully awake and pulled over the light screen to check the alarm.
"...The first midterm exam for the History of Starship Design course..." He read out the alarm reminder he had set more than ten days ago. After a few seconds of silence, he jumped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom.
Mingyu's major at the comprehensive university is space navigation history.
Although he was familiar with all the major events in space travel, that didn't mean he knew the terrifying details of each subject. Furthermore, Mingyu's understanding of some historical events was completely different from his teacher's, and he spent most of his time studying starship design, leaving him no time to study the other teacher's system.
The consequence was that Mingyu's first semester report card had a lot of dark red marks.
Comprehensive University was ranked number one on the Capital Planet. Its curriculum was rigorous, and each year, students had a required average score, based on a five-point average. Any score below three would result in expulsion. Mingyu didn't want to waste time on classes he disliked, but he also didn't want to be warned and expelled.
He didn't want the school to contact his parents and didn't want them to interfere in his life anymore.
After careful calculation, Mingyu had to get a failing grade of 3.5 or above in all his courses this semester, and he had to get an additional excellent grade in one course.
Mingyu picked and chose, and placed his hopes for an "excellent" course on the history of starship design.
How much does it have to do with starship design!
Therefore, Mingyu takes this course seriously. Although he still misses class the next day because he has to work on design drafts the day before, the number of times is not high. He also reads the after-class materials frequently and reviews them from time to time before doing homework. He is currently making good progress.
Only two days before the Star Navigation Competition started, Mingyu had completely forgotten about it! He hadn't reviewed for the exam at all, and if he hadn't set the alarm in advance, Mingyu would have slept through the entire exam.
Given the rigidity of the professor in this course, a make-up exam is impossible. With a big zero on the midterm exam, Mingyu's GPA for this semester is ruined!
He quickly washed up, put on his clothes, and ran out of the dormitory in a hurry. He managed to arrive at the examination room before the exam.
Today's examination room was much more lively than Mingyu had expected.
He entered the examination room and found that many people were sitting in their seats, seemingly nonchalantly, but very obviously looking back frequently at the last row of the examination room.
Mingyu glanced up, but he was too far away to see anything but rows of bustling heads. He couldn't make out anything. He followed the numbers on the screens above his seats to find his seat, walking from the front to the back. Along the way, he heard a few people whispering to each other.
"It's Mulan? Really Mulan?"
"It's him, it's him. That's right! I just took the opportunity to go to the bathroom and take a look through the back door! Wow, he looks so handsome up close! Even more handsome than in the photo!"
"Really?? Impossible?? He's even more handsome than in the photo?? I don't believe it!!"
"Why not believe it? Isn't Mingyu more delicate and lovely than in the photo?"
"Well, that's true... Apart from anything else, Mingyu's looks are indeed top-notch..."
Mingyu: “…”
He quickly walked past the classmates who were too busy gossiping to notice that the real person was right next to them. By the time he found his seat according to the number, he had already heard the whole story.
Mu Lian, a celebrity in the school, the captain of the team that won the finals of the previous Star Navigation Competition, and a fifth-year senior majoring in starship driving in the Star Navigation Department, is taking the exam in their examination room today.
The reason why Mulan is here is that he took the elective course of Starship Design History in the second half of last year, but later took a leave of absence due to illness and did not complete the course, so he had to take make-up exams for all mid-term and final exams, as well as in-class and extracurricular tests this semester.
Mingyu stopped in front of the second seat by the window in the last row.
He could clearly feel that the eyes of the entire classroom were scanning this row, and the focus was on the boy sitting on his left.
Mingyu tilted his head and looked at him curiously.
He hadn't even started middle school when the last Star Navigation Competition took place, but Ming Yan had already competed and became a rival of Mu Lian. Ming Yu occasionally heard Ming Yan mention Mu Lian at the Ming family dinner table, but his attitude was always disdainful and a little fearful when he mentioned her.
This is a ship-type awakened human who is physically weak but has high driving skills and a mental strength of A level.
He looked for a little longer, and the black-haired young man felt Mingyu's gaze and raised his eyes to glance in his direction.
Mulian has a handsome face, but his face is pale and he looks a bit sick.
His azure eyes were indifferent, and he cast a nonchalant glance at Ming Yu. The boy in front of Ming Yu turned his head and looked over here. When he saw Mu Lian's appearance clearly, he let out an unconcealed exclamation, obviously because he was overwhelmed by her handsomeness.
At this moment, Mingyu suddenly thought of Mu Baixing.
Mu Baixing's face... or the face he created, if it appeared in this classroom, it might turn his classmates into screaming chickens and flip the classroom roof over.
Mingyu withdrew his gaze and sat down in his seat.
With five minutes left before the exam, he rested his chin on his hand, feeling more relaxed than ever before as he sat among his classmates. Most of his classmates' attention was drawn to Mu Lian, leaving only a few scrutinizing or disapproving glances at Ming Yu, which made him feel quite comfortable.
There was a gentle knock on the window of the examination room from outside.
Mingyu tilted his head and saw Mulian doing the same thing. Mingyu's eyes fell on the window with Mulian, and they saw a baby-faced young man leaning against the window, looking in with great concern.
He met Mulan's gaze and immediately made an energetic gesture of encouragement.
"Hey..." Mingyu heard two girls in the front row whispering, "Is that Senior Cui Xiaoduo?! The prodigy starship designer who passed the Advanced Starship Designer Qualification Certificate as a teenager..."
"Ding-ling-ling——" The unique retro bell of the comprehensive university rang, and the whispers in the classroom finally disappeared.
Mingyu picked up the electronic pen. The test questions were displayed on the screen in front of him. Mingyu glanced at it and felt relieved.
He knew all the subjects on the test, so his GPA was saved.
He began to write and finished the questions very quickly.
The first half of the multiple-choice questions dealt with the history and reasons behind starship design improvements. Mingyu had read about this material on his own since high school and had memorized it, so he couldn't make a mistake. Confident, he didn't need to check his answers. After writing down his answers, he pushed the multiple-choice screen to the left and began writing the short-answer questions.
At this point, you need to carefully consider the reasons, sort out the logic, and write slowly.
Mingyu held the electronic pen against his chin, thinking about how to answer the questions.
His eyes fell on the light screen in front of him, but out of the corner of his eye he saw that the multiple-choice screen he had just pushed to the left moved.
As if being gently touched by something, the question on the light screen suddenly scrolled down one line.
