Chapter 8 Modeling Completed
Mingyu was awakened by the prompt sound that the modeling program had completed running.
In the dim room, the result screens that popped up after each scene finished running were stacked one on top of the other. The top one was the most conspicuous, with a line of words written cleanly on the blank background:
"Starship feasibility test passed. Modeling times: 1, re-inspections: 0."
Mingyu: “…”
He was stunned for a moment, rubbed his eyes in disbelief, and sat up.
“…Passed in one try?!” Mingyu confirmed the test results again, and checked the data in each environment to confirm that there were no problems with the calculation results.
Mingyu flipped through the screen and couldn't help but say, "Why am I so lucky this time...!"
Although it was just a modification based on an existing starship, he had drawn blueprints for starship modifications before, and each time it took him five or six attempts to pass!
Even as he thought this, his mood quickly calmed down. Mingyu's starship design was just a hobby, and he had only just passed the junior designer qualification exam. He was outside the majority of starship designers and didn't realize how unusual his work was.
He modified not only the starship's exterior but also a large portion of its operational wiring. The success of such a massive modification would have astonished countless veteran starship designers.
Ming Yu: "It turns out that the deadline is the primary productive force!" He sighed while finding Mu Baixing's personal contact number from the Star Navigation Competition team information and sent a message to Mu Baixing.
Mingyu: "The design draft has been revised. When can you come and see it? We can make further adjustments based on your needs."
The man's reply came quickly and was brief.
Mu Baixing: "Busy."
Mingyu: “…”
"No need to look." The other party replied, "It can be opened."
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu hadn't slept much in the past two days, and his temper had worsened. Seeing this irresponsible reply, he was furious and shouted, "Can you be serious?!"
"I've been working all night revising your design for two days! You're so busy just to take a look?! If you just want to show off at the competition, just say so! Don't waste my time and energy!"
Mu Baixing: “…”
Mu Baixing had a cold face as he glanced at the message sent by the designer. His pale fingers stained with blood paused for a moment, and then he typed a reply on the light screen.
"Location sharing," he said. "Ten minutes later."
Mingyu rolled his eyes inwardly, thinking, "Don't we have time?" He sent Mu Baixing an invitation to the modeling room, then stood up, turned on the light, and moved the modeler's parameter screen aside to activate the virtual construction projection mode.
The modeling device, which was originally half a person's height, retracted into the ground, leaving only a finger-high section exposed. The upper table slid open to both sides, revealing the projection equipment.
The starship's size was too vast to fit into a small room. The holographic projection inside the room was scaled down by more than ten times, but the outer shell was semi-transparent, allowing for a clear view of the internal structure. Parts of the projection could be zoomed in and out, allowing the designer to explain the project to the pilot.
Mingyu waited patiently for a while, and almost at the beginning of the first second of ten minutes, a dim light appeared around him.
Mu Baixing's figure quickly condensed from the loose light particles and appeared beside Mingyu.
Mingyu was originally suffocated by him, but the moment he saw him, that emotion suddenly disappeared.
The man was still as handsome as he had been the last time he saw him, dressed in black combat fatigues. The tight, special-material suit wrapped around his slender, powerful figure, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs, a perfect blend of strength and sexiness.
His hair was a little messy, and the black hair, which was slightly stained with sweat, draped over his pale skin, with a few strands sticking to the sides of his face.
His face looked bad, his lips were pale, but his pair of blue eyes with black circles contained an unfinished storm. When he looked up at Mingyu, there was a lingering aura of terrifying oppression, which made Mingyu hold his breath for a moment.
Mu Baixing caught his pause, looked away, tightened the bandage on his arm, tied a knot with one hand, and when he looked at Mingyu again, the coldness in his eyes had subsided.
His afterglow glided across the projection of the starship in the room, and he said briefly, "Tell me."
Mingyu: “…”
Mu Baixing had clearly rushed over from a battle. His gaze fell on Mu Baixing's bleeding arm, where blood quickly seeped through the white bandage and dripped down his fingertips onto the ground.
Mingyu: "Did you go to the virtual mining area?"
Most of the time, the Star Network was just a virtual interactive platform. There weren't many places where one could actually get hurt, and a martial arts officer wouldn't let their students get into such a mess. The special competition area opened up by the Star Navigation Competition hadn't opened yet, so the only remaining option was the virtual Twin Mining Area.
Virtual twin mining area technology, like starships, is a groundbreaking technological advancement.
There were originally planets in the human star field that produced energy crystals or material mines, but with continuous development, the mineral deposits in the heart of the safe star field have been basically exhausted. Most of the remaining mineral planets are distributed on the border of the safe zone, and some have even left the safe zone and are close to the star line and the black tide.
These planets are far away from home, have harsh environments that are not suitable for human habitation, have extremely high development costs, and have low mining efficiency.
To solve this problem, virtual twin mine technology came into being.
The advance development team built a mining base on the mineral planet and installed special transmission equipment at its center. Through the equipment, the real mining area was uploaded to the star network, thus establishing a virtual mining area.
Particle interaction between the virtual mining area and the real mining area is achieved through dynamic transmission technology.
Miners can then access the virtual mining area from the star network and conduct development, with corresponding changes occurring on the actual mineral deposits. They load the resources mined from the virtual mining area into the base's transport bay. Once the bay is full, crew members at a space station near the virtual mining area will launch a starship to transport the minerals back to a safe star zone.
The virtual twin mining area completely replicates the real mining star.
It includes both the resources therein, such as energy mines, rare plants that can enhance mental strength, etc., but also the harsh and changeable environment, and the star beasts that roam therein.
Because of the interactivity within the mining area, the damage suffered by miners in the virtual mining area will be reflected in their bodies in a completely realistic way.
The virtual mining area module is connected to the Star Network, allowing anyone to enter and operate within it with just an application. The resources they mine belong to them and can be shipped to their real address by the base's logistics department, or they can simply sell them to the base for cash.
This is undoubtedly a very quick way to make money, but entering the virtual mining area also carries considerable risks. Because there are no rescue stations in the mining area, anyone entering or leaving the virtual mining area has signed a risk agreement that their life and death are at their own risk.
Miners entering the mining area typically operate small, one- or two-person intrastellar mining vessels. These vessels can extract a portion of the underground resources. However, sometimes, pilots may need to leave the starship to dig for specialized plants or ores, employing oxygen helmets and powered exoskeletons.
Although the planet where the virtual twin mine can be built is not the resource planet with the worst environment, thousands of people still die in the mining area every year, and countless more are injured.
It is a place with uncertain rewards but very dangerous.
"Yeah." Mu Baixing responded, "We're short of materials and money."
He brushed back the sweaty hair on his forehead, looked at Mingyu, and explained, "I have an exploration team and a few colorful brothers."
Mingyu: “…”
So you also call them the Five-Colored Brothers.
"You should have said you were stuck in the virtual mine." He frowned, looking annoyed. "...Weren't you fighting a star beast just now?"
Mu Baixing: “Yes.”
"Busy," he repeated what he had just said in the message, adding, "I don't mean to disrespect your time and energy."
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu is a reasonable person.
He raised his hands in surrender and said weakly, "Stop talking. If you keep going, it will just be like I was being unreasonable for losing my temper with you while you were fighting the star beast. Next time if you have something to say, tell me clearly... Why don't you go and rest and get some treatment first..."
"No." Mu Baixing refuted Mingyu's first sentence and said calmly: "It was just a fight. Just a minor injury."
He walked towards the virtual projection of the starship, looked at the structure inside, and said again: "Tell me."
Mingyu: “…”
Mingyu found that he had gradually become accustomed to the pretentiousness of this middle school student, and slowly began to get used to it, and even felt that he might actually have something.
I guess so.
Mingyu thought uncertainly.
At least most people wouldn't mention the mining area so lightly, let alone describe the battle with the star beasts as "just a fight."
Mingyu was not very familiar with Mu Baixing, so he did not urge him to go to the treatment area and turned his attention back to the projection of his starship model.
Mu Baixing: "You changed the barrel."
His eyes immediately fell on the weapons mounted on the starship. He raised his eyebrows and zoomed in on the gun barrel on the lower right side of the starship. "It's a standard Lambda cannon, but with some improvements."
"You redesigned the energy particle accelerator at the rear of the barrel?"
