Chapter 3 [Goodnight, Husband]

Chapter 3 [Goodnight, Husband]

She said she was waiting for her husband to come home, but the moment she lay down on the bed, sleepiness overwhelmed her.

Before Su Pu could struggle, she was dragged into a dark nightmare.

Someone grabbed his hair and pinched his entire jaw with two fingers, forcing him to open his mouth.

"Say something! Say something! How can you be so useless? You can't even speak properly..."

"Hasn't Mom taught you so many times? Call your dad and tell him you miss him. Tell him you hear Mom crying every night because you miss him. Are you useless? You have a mouth, why can't you speak?"

His mother pulled out his tongue and threatened to scald it with boiling water, saying that this would stimulate the root of his tongue and help him learn to speak.

He was so small and skinny back then, a real little mouse, terrified, shrinking his neck and struggling desperately.

With a flick of her wrist, Mom smashed the kettle to the ground with a bang, splashing water and sending steam billowing up to the ceiling.

He dodged quickly and wasn't splashed much. When he turned around, his mother's legs were red.

She began to scream at the top of her lungs, smashing everything in sight.

"Ah—ah—are you trying to kill me?"

"Do you want me to die so you can go live with your biological father? You all despise me, don't you?"

Xiao Supu shook his head frantically. He wished he could suddenly speak when he was extremely anxious, just like in the TV dramas.

Unfortunately, no matter how anxious, aggrieved, or eager he was, he still couldn't learn to speak.

His mother was injured, but he couldn't even make an emergency call. After saying "hello" a few times, the operator on the other end of the line lost patience and coldly warned him that if he made any more harassing calls, she would contact the police.

Su Pu hung up the phone and ran outside without even putting on her coat.

It was snowing heavily that day. He walked barefoot on the snow, but he didn't feel cold at all. He just felt anxious.

My mother was burned, suffered a mental breakdown, and is incoherent. We need to find someone to save her.

Someone, please help them.

Someone please help him save his mother!

Help……

Su Pu's feet thrashed about in the warm bed, feeling an indescribable strange sensation on her cheek.

It felt like a scorching ray of light, or feathers intermittently brushing against his skin.

It feels like a mix of pain and itching; nothing feels right.

With a pounding heart, he slowly opened his eyes, gradually focusing them, and then fixed his gaze on Li Jichuan's face.

Su Pu: !!!

No wonder he felt uncomfortable; it turned out that Li Jichuan had been staring at him the whole time.

How long has he been watching?

Su Pu jumped out of bed, her hair disheveled, with two tufts of hair sticking up on top of her head.

The little mute opened his mouth silently, but only managed to utter a single breath.

Then he jumped to the ground with a thud, his head bowed like a quail, as if he had committed a terrible crime.

Li Jichuan looked at the little quail in front of him and wondered if he was that scary that he could frighten someone like this.

All he cared about was that Su Pu was sleeping on his usual side, and he was afraid he would have to stay up all night again, so he was considering whether or not to wake him up and let him sleep on the other side.

Beep beep beep beep...

Su Pu's fingers flew across the keyboard as she frantically tapped on her phone, showing it to Li Jichuan.

【Mr. Li, I'm sorry, I didn't fall asleep on purpose. You must be tired from work. Would you like some water or milk? If you're hungry, I can cook something for you. What would you like to eat? Or do you want to sleep? Can I sleep in the bed? If that's not convenient, I can sleep on the floor, somewhere you can't see me. Tell me anything you want to do.】

Li Jichuan read for a while, his brows furrowing more and more tightly.

Su Pu watched from the side, his hands starting to tremble.

Does Mr. Li not like any of these things? Then what does he like?

Su Pu could do a lot, but he considered himself quite diligent and not too stupid. He could learn anything, as long as Mr. Li asked him to.

Finally, Li Jichuan withdrew his gaze and leaned back against the back of the wheelchair.

"Do you think I married you just so you could serve me?"

Su Pu stared blankly at him, her heart growing increasingly panicked.

Ah, isn't that right?

But Li Jichuan seems to lack nothing, so what does he really want?

Li Jichuan let out a long sigh, "If I need someone to take care of me, I can just hire another caregiver. There's no need to sacrifice my marriage and share my private space with a complete stranger..."

Su Pu was stunned for a while after hearing this, repeatedly pondering the phrase "shared private space".

Indeed, Li Jichuan doesn't lack servants; what he needs is more personalized service.

Su Pu trembled all over, stared at Li Jichuan for a while, then raised her hands and, under his gaze, unbuttoned her pajamas one button at a time, revealing her rarely exposed pinkish-white skin.

"you……"

Realizing the little mute's intention, Li Jichuan's face darkened instantly, and he turned his head away, saying, "Put your clothes on properly!"

Su Pu's eyes flickered slightly, first with surprise, then with a sense of confusion, before all these emotions were buried by a great sense of loss.

If we don't want this... then what use is he?

He's completely useless.

“Sleep on the other side,” Li Jichuan remotely controlled the wheelchair to the bedside, placed his hands on either side of his thighs, and suddenly twisted his body onto the bed. “I’ve always slept on this side. I’m used to all the furnishings here, and it’s hard to change, nor do I want to.”

Su Pu subconsciously took a few steps back, standing there timidly, not daring to even raise her head.

It turns out that not only did he fall asleep before Mr. Li, but he also took over Mr. Li's usual spot and slept there.

"Su Pu, look at me." Li Jichuan leaned against the headboard and slowly took off the watch from his wrist.

Su Pu, having received the order, dared to raise his head, his gaze darting around uneasily.

"I married you to put my grandfather's mind at ease. He's terminally ill and doesn't have many days left to live. I just want to fulfill my filial duty and let him leave in peace..."

Hmm? Is that so?

Su Pu raised her head and met Li Jichuan's gaze.

The other person had a calm expression, but there was still an indelible weariness between their brows and eyes, and faint dark circles under their eyes.

“Grandpa has informants in the family, so we have to sleep together, but you should know my situation as well, I am disabled.”

Li Jichuan laughed and tapped his legs a few times.

"Look, even though I'm using so much force, I don't feel any pain. So don't worry, I have no intention of violating you, nor do I have the ability to do so. You don't need to be so afraid of me..."

Su Pu listened, shook his head violently, and started typing on his phone.

Don't be afraid.

You are my husband...

Li Jichuan scoffed, "After all I've said, you still don't understand?"

Su Pu was puzzled. Even if it was just to give his grandfather an explanation, they were already married.

Isn't the point of marriage to accommodate and support each other?

But Su Pu didn't want Li Jichuan to be angry anymore, so she wrote it on her phone.

I understand.

"Alright, go to sleep." Li Jichuan's heart skipped a beat, and he no longer dared to look into Su Pu's overly clear eyes before burrowing into the covers.

Wow, it's warm under the covers. The little mute must be a little furnace.

Suddenly, Li Jichuan's eyelids lit up, and he opened his eyes. The little mute's phone screen was right above his eyes; he still had something to say.

But you are indeed my husband.

I'm nice to you not because I'm afraid of you.

But if you hate me, you can tell me, and I'll stay far away from you.

Su Pu took back her phone and started typing again, but this time she didn't rush to show Li Jichuan what she had typed.

Li Jichuan's leg was limping, and his vision was obstructed after lying down. He could only hear Su Pu standing by the bed making rustling noises, but he didn't know what she was doing.

Is she taking off her clothes again?

I already said you don't need to do that...

A moment later, Li Jichuan felt a sudden force on one of his hands. He was startled and tried to move his hand away.

Su Pu then gripped his wrist with her other hand, causing a brief moment of pain on the back of his hand, but it subsided quickly.

"This is……"

Li Jichuan raised his arm, revealing a translucent jade bracelet on his wrist.

This is what my mother bought for you; it's my most valuable possession. I have nothing else to give you, so this is all I can give you.

Li Jichuan felt a warmth in his chest, and some unknown emotions welled up from his heart.

But none of them were in a bad mood.

"No need..."

That's what he said, but he was playing with the bracelet on his wrist and showed no intention of returning it.

Su Pu seemed to sense his acceptance and was finally relieved. She walked around half of the bed and climbed into her own side of the quilt.

Then the typing started again, beep beep beep.

Li Jichuan waited a while, and Su Pu handed him the phone.

Goodnight, honey.
