Chapter 6 Takeout

Chapter 6 Takeout

Those deer-like eyes blinked and blinked, with a hint of water in the corners, almost seeing through Li Jichuan's very soul.

He had always hated being stared at, and this had become even more pronounced after the car accident. However, being stared at by the little mute boy gave him a sudden urge to tease him.

What are you doing here?

He cleared his throat before asking the question.

Su Pu stared at him blankly, as if still immersed in shock, and didn't react for a long time.

"Well, although I'm disabled and can't feel anything in my legs..." Li Jichuan met those clear and bright eyes, suppressing a laugh, and asked him, "But isn't it a bit inappropriate for you to sit on my lap like this?"

Blinking and blinking again, Su Pu finally realized what was happening and hurriedly jumped away.

The little mute was speechless and instinctively used sign language to explain to him.

Li Jichuan naturally couldn't understand it; he only knew that the little mute's movements were very fast, almost leaving afterimages.

"Are you trying to say that you didn't do it on purpose?" Li Jichuan guessed.

Su Pu nodded emphatically; he was innocent.

He had lived for 22 years, and this was the first time he had ever sat on someone's lap.

He's never even sat on his mother's lap!

Li Jichuan glanced at his watch and asked, "What are you doing at my company at this hour?"

Su Pu paused for a moment, then picked up the takeout bag that she had been protecting.

They're delivering takeout.

Looking at the apron wrapped around his slender waist, Li Jichuan had already guessed what was going on. "Coming over to deliver coffee?"

Su Pu nodded.

Why didn't you take the elevator?

That's to save time... Su Pu's expression suddenly froze, then he patted Li Jichuan's shoulder, indicating that he had to go first.

Before Li Jichuan could answer, the fire door behind him creaked open and slammed shut, and the little mute had already left.

Only a trace of warmth remained between them.

Two seconds later, a laugh suddenly rang out in the stairwell.

Li Jichuan couldn't help but chuckle, clenching his fist.

It really is a small stove.

Wherever it went, it spread like wildfire.

...

Su Pu arrived at the reception desk a minute later than expected, but a minute earlier than last time.

I just pray that I won't be made things difficult for myself this time.

Fortunately, the person who stayed at the front desk to receive the package this time was not Frank, but a pretty young lady he had never seen before.

The other person took the coffee, glanced at the delivery information, and was slightly surprised. "Wow, you guys deliver so fast! Secretary Xu just told me to keep an eye on the takeout orders."

Finally hearing a word of praise, Su Pu felt relieved, took a picture, uploaded it to the system, and prepared to leave.

"Ah, sir, wait a minute," the receptionist picked up the phone, whispered a few words, and then said to him, "Assistant Xu said that he needs to personally inspect the goods when you arrive."

Su Pu's heart, which had just relaxed, was gripped tightly again. She took a breath and stayed behind helplessly.

Seemingly still upset from last week, Frank deliberately dawdled for a few minutes after receiving the call before slowly showing up.

Upon seeing Su Pu, he revealed a triumphant smile and immediately glanced at his watch. "Oh dear, you're even later than last time. What, you're not happy about it?"

Su Pu opened his mouth, unable to refute.

He was clearly deliberately stalling for time.

The young woman at the front desk helped smooth things over, looking at the receipt on the takeout bag. "It's not late, is it? Even if you go to the store for a hand-drip drink, you'll have to wait about 20 minutes. It hasn't even been 20 minutes since you placed your order."

Frank rolled his eyes, pretending not to hear, and abruptly changed the subject, "Then the timing is even more off, isn't it? You came so quickly this time, did you not make the coffee properly?"

"The price of hand-drip coffee is twice that of other coffees. I paid for it, so I should at least know the quality of the coffee, right?"

Su Pu composed herself and took out her phone to type.

[You should try it; the hand-drip flavor is delicate, and the beans are premium quality—it's always been our shop's signature product.]

He believes that anyone with even a basic understanding of coffee can taste its subtlety and complexity, which far surpasses other brewing methods.

Frank scoffed, "Who knows? Anyway, the boss is drinking... but..."

Upon learning that he wasn't the one who was tasting the food, Su Pu finally breathed a sigh of relief, only to have that sigh interrupted by the word "however."

Frank raised an eyebrow. "The coffee's all spilled. How are you going to let our boss drink it?"

Spilled? Impossible...

Su Pu carefully protected it the whole way, and even when it accidentally sat on Li Jichuan's lap, his arm didn't twist an inch.

How could it possibly spill?

Seeing Su Pu's disbelief, Frank smiled and took the takeout cup out of the paper bag.

Sure enough, the lid was loosely closed, and the upper half of the paper cup was stained with dark brown liquid.

Su Pu blinked, still unable to believe it. If it had spilled, he couldn't have been completely oblivious, having carried the takeout bag the whole way...

"Frank, let me be fair," the receptionist couldn't stand it anymore and grabbed the takeout bag, "If the waiter spilled it on the way here, the bag would have been sitting here for ages, and the wet part should be cold."

She touched the takeout bag with her fingertips. "But this place is still warm. You must have spilled it when you took it out. It's your fault."

Frank's expression darkened. "Are you blaming me?"

"Nobody blames you. I just think you shouldn't blame everything on other people, right?" the little girl said with a strong sense of justice.

Frank chuckled, "That's why women are so emotional. When their sympathy takes over, they want to help everyone..."

The little girl wouldn't tolerate him either, saying, "Are you sick?"

"I don't know if I'm sick or not, but as your senior, let me give you some advice: it's best not to bring so much personal emotion into your work. Today a deaf-mute comes in, you feel sorry for them and don't hold them accountable for their mistakes; tomorrow someone with a missing arm or leg comes in, and you let them off the hook too. In the long run, you'll be the one who suffers in the end..."

The little girl gasped twice in anger and glared at him as she retorted.

"No, brother, are you alright? Did I ask you for advice? I was just stating what I saw. It wasn't the clerk who spilled it, otherwise I would have noticed such a big coffee stain when I received the goods, okay?"

Frank chuckled, "Oh, you're getting impatient?"

"That's why we said we shouldn't hire these Gen Z kids. They're all thinking about reforming the workplace, they're so arrogant and don't listen to us!"

The young girl was so angry she wanted to rush out from behind the counter. "Who's getting angry? You keep calling him a disabled person or a deaf-mute. What's so great about you? You just have one more mouth than him. You just spew nonsense as soon as you open your mouth. You might as well not have one!"

"Who do you think you are to lecture me?" Frank rolled up his sleeves angrily. "You really think no one can handle you? So what if I call him disabled? Can he even speak? Hasn't he ever received disability benefits? Where does that money come from? It comes from people like us working like oxen and horses and paying taxes to the country."

He glared at Su Pu, as if all the misfortunes in his life were caused by this little mute girl alone. "Not only was the delivery late, but you also spilled the coffee, and this coffee is likely of poor quality. What, why are you glaring at me like that?"

"I told you, the coffee shop downstairs is definitely unreliable. They claim to be hiring disabled people in response to the national call, but they're really just after that little bit of subsidy. In the end, they'll just bleed us able-bodied people dry..."

Before he could finish speaking, Su Pu showed him the text that she had already typed.

I haven't received any subsidies; every penny I've spent has been earned through my own hard work!

He believes that he is already in a much better situation than many visually or hearing impaired patients, even though he can't speak. So he has always given up his self-selection spot since he was a child.

Especially after entering the workforce, he only applied for positions open to everyone, and although he encountered many setbacks, he still managed to find his current job.

He has never used his identity to play the victim, nor does he feel that he is particularly miserable, and he does not want to gain anything by relying on other people's sympathy.

"Tch, you've gotten all the benefits, so you have to act all innocent, right? Why do you think they're helping you? If you were a bit stronger and uglier..."

At this point, Frank, who was half a head taller than Su Pu, pinched his cheek with his thumb and forefinger, causing Su Pu to wince in pain.

"If you don't put on such a pitiful act, do you think they'll soften up for you? I despise sissies like you who get all the benefits but still act all effeminate!"

Su Pu finally managed to break free from his grasp, so angry that she couldn't type anymore and subconsciously resorted to sign language.

I've tried my best to meet your demands, why won't you leave me alone?

He kept gesturing in the air with both hands, his palms clapping together, making a loud sound.

The little mute boy got so angry he bristled and started swearing.

Even though he couldn't understand sign language, Frank had already gone to such lengths to express himself, so he knew he was being insulted and was even more resentful.

"Hey, you're getting cocky, aren't you? You're deaf and mute, we're doing you a favor by bringing you coffee. If we stopped buying your coffee, where would a disabled person like you make money?"

"After talking about disabled people for so long, do you look down on us that much?"

A cool male voice rang out from a slightly lower spot behind Frank.

Although not loud, his voice was deep and his breath control was steady. The sound waves vibrated in the air, enough to make people feel a sense of intimidation.

Frank turned to look impatiently, and his face turned pale with fright.
