Chapter 8 The Good-for-Nothing
During afternoon tea time, the coffee shop was bustling with activity.
Su Hui sat with her arms crossed, frowning as she looked at Su Pu, and complained, "Why are you taking so long, dawdling like that..."
Su Pu sat down on the sofa opposite him, with a low table between them.
Before Su Pu could ask, Su Hui simply tossed a bank card onto the table and stated his purpose directly.
“Dad told me to give you some money, otherwise the Li family would think we’re stingy and just send us a penniless nobody.”
As she spoke, Su looked up and surveyed the shop. "And you, you should quit your job here right away."
"It would be too embarrassing to say that out loud, as if we've been bullying you."
Su Pu had heard these words countless times before.
As early as when he found his first part-time job in middle school, he heard Su Fengxian and Su Hui take turns suppressing him, saying that it would be criticized if word got out that he was a minor working.
They also mocked him, saying how much money he could earn in a month, and that if he needed money, he could ask his family for it.
However, whenever Su Pu swallowed his pride and went to ask for money, he was greeted with a completely different face.
Su Fengxian frowned and asked impatiently, "Didn't I just give you the money last month?"
Su Pu explained: "That's tuition; I also have to pay rent."
"Oh dear, why do we always have to pay rent? I already told you to move in with us."
Su Pu pursed her lips and did not respond.
Not to mention how far Su Fengxian's residence is from their school, a one-way bus ride takes nearly two hours.
If he were to actually live under the same roof as Su Hui, he might not necessarily suffer any kind of bullying.
Just by staying for a week after returning home for summer vacation, Su Hui already treated him like a slave, rummaging through his personal belongings at will, and "accidentally" getting his summer homework wet.
Su Hui is known for his sharp tongue and often teases him in front of a group of young masters.
"Su Pu, is the 'Pu' in your name the same as the 'Pu' in 'servant'?"
"Your mother wanted to serve my father her whole life, but she didn't get to. Now it's your turn to serve me. You two really haven't forgotten your original intentions!"
At first, Su Pu would fight back against him, but the result was always the same.
He was beaten up by Su Hui and his gang of buddies. That night, after Su Fengxian returned home, Su Hui exaggerated his complaints, and Su Pu was about to get another beating...
After being beaten many times, he finally understood.
Su Fengxian and Su Hui will never stand on his side.
For this father and son, the so-called "family" was nothing more than a weak moral bond.
Just like this marriage agreement, if Su Hui hadn't been unwilling to marry the "notorious" Li Jichuan, neither he nor his father would have remembered that there was such a person as Su Pu.
Supu paused for a moment, then pushed the card back.
I don't want money, I have enough. Don't come looking for me again.
Su Hui is studying for her master's degree abroad. She returned to China during her vacation and spent lavishly. Just two days ago, Su Fengxian took two of her credit cards, so she's in a bad mood.
Su Pu is still putting on airs here, pretending to be high and mighty, who is he trying to disgust?
"You've barely even gotten close to the Li family's doorstep, haven't even officially entered yet, and you're already busy distancing yourself from us?"
Su Hui's voice was tinged with anger, and she unconsciously raised it, attracting the attention of the surrounding diners.
"Su Pu, I have to say you're not very bright. You moved in with nothing, without any status or recognition. Do you think they'll take you seriously?"
"While Li Jichuan's novelty has worn off, shouldn't you be eager to curry favor with him? Buy him clothes and be attentive, so that even if he dumps you in the future, he'll still give you something out of consideration, right?"
Su Pu secretly fiddled with the hem of his uniform apron, thinking to himself that he wasn't completely naked.
He put the bracelet his mother had left him on Li Jichuan's finger!
Moreover, he had secretly peeked earlier and saw that Li Jichuan was still wearing it, which meant he had accepted it as a gift...
"I'm talking to you, so either type or gesture, what the hell are you doing standing there like a block of wood!"
Su would impatiently lecture him.
"With your personality, you'll only stay at the Li family's house for three days at most. Don't come back to my house after that, or I'll get angry just seeing you!"
Su Pu bit her lip, unwilling to argue with him.
Besides, why not take the money? If Li Jichuan really does kick me out, having more savings will give me a safety net.
Thinking of this, Su Pu silently took the card again and held it in her hand.
But my palms felt inexplicably hot...
"Alright, you've taken the money. Dad asked me to do a small thing, so just do it."
With the true purpose of his trip finally revealed, Su Hui unveiled his true intentions.
"Next Saturday night is Dad's company's anniversary party. Try to get Li Jichuan there so he can make an appearance. You're a member of the Su family, so consider it helping out."
Su Pu looked up in surprise. The nonchalant look on Su Hui's face disappeared, and it didn't seem like he was joking.
He hurriedly waved his hand and threw the card back onto the table.
Su Fengxian's intentions were extremely clear.
He wanted to take advantage of the fact that Su Pu hadn't been kicked out yet and that Li Jichuan was still giving him face, so he could extract as much value as possible from the Li family.
They used Li Jichuan's influence to endorse their own company.
Even if Li Jichuan had already distanced himself from him last night, he still wouldn't want to take advantage of this marriage and this person like this.
He would despise himself.
No, I don't want the money, and I can't bring the person with me.
"You just accepted the card, there's no reason to return it."
Su laughed at him for being greedy for small gains, but he ended up reaping what he sowed.
"Su Pu, even if you marry into the Li family, you'll just be used as a fool. Stop pretending and just try to get whatever you can..."
"You're afraid of messing with Li Jichuan and making him dislike you. But have you ever thought about it? Even if you don't do that, what reason would he have to like you?"
Su Hui stood up, leaned halfway over, and patted Su Pu on the shoulder.
"Think about it, if you take him with you, the family business will be much easier in the future. That way, even if you get kicked out, you'll still have some leverage when you ask us for money again..."
Su Pu raised her eyes and glared at Su Hui with hatred.
Su Hui raised an eyebrow, looking amused, and didn't take his anger seriously at all.
Their hands overlapped and twirled rapidly. Su Pu was furious and could only use the only language she could use to accuse Su Hui.
The last action was that Su Pu slapped the backs of his hands together, making a loud slapping sound, which was an insult.
Even if he curses filthyly and hits the sore spot the hardest, Su doesn't understand sign language, so she won't be hurt at all.
As she watched, Su Hui actually smiled and called out softly.
"Incompetent, useless, and worthless."
They've arrived.
Every time she was bullied or suppressed, Su would call him that.
Nest, incompetent, useless.
These three words were like a brand etched on Su Pu's soul, declaring his destiny of not being favored or chosen.
But is this the kind of pathetic thing he wanted?
Doesn't he want to resist, doesn't he want to stand up for himself?
However, even though he had already tried his best to live, he did not hesitate to marry in place of his wife, and offered his husband the most important keepsake from his mother without considering the gains or losses.
That's still not enough.
He remains an unchosen and unappreciated individual.
Su Pu trembled slightly as she picked up the ice water from the table and held it in her palm.
Su Hui naturally saw his actions, but the man didn't even flinch, just smiled frivolously and looked at Su Pu.
It's as if it's saying, "Go ahead and splash it on me if you dare..."
Go to hell, you coward...
A moment later, with a muffled thud, the glass returned to the table, right next to the bank card.
Not a drop of water has been reduced inside.
Su Pu stood ramrod straight, his jaw clenched, and his lips and teeth felt cold.
Su Hui had already successfully completed his mission and swaggered away.
...
As Su Hui walked happily to the store entrance, a wheelchair blocked her way.
He narrowed his eyes, looked down, and caught sight of a cold, stern face.
The other person's gaze was so intimidating, staring straight at him, that Su Hui felt a moment of fear.
This face looks familiar.
Judging from his clothes, he must be from a wealthy family.
wheelchair……
A name appeared out of thin air in his mind:
Li Jichuan?
Indeed, these office buildings nearby all belong to the Li Group, so it's not surprising that Li Jichuan himself is here...
But upon further inspection, Su Hui dismissed the idea.
At this moment, the wheelchair moved into the store, clearing the exit, and Su Hui pushed open the door and went out.
The late summer breeze carried a hint of coolness as it brushed against Su Hui's face.
He stood by the roadside waiting for a car, and thinking about the man in the wheelchair earlier, he just found it funny.
"She's dressed quite respectably, but unfortunately, she made a fatal mistake—she's wearing a fake bracelet..."
Su Hui made a low, sarcastic remark.
The bracelet's color was too mixed, indicating that the man from earlier could not have been Li Jichuan.
How could a young master who has been accustomed to seeing rare treasures since childhood not be able to tell that this thing is obviously fake?
But speaking of which, what kind of person is Li Jichuan?
How could you be so low-key? Even the photos are blurry.
What's so great about him? He still dumped her in the end.
The car arrived, and Su Hui whistled and got in with a smug look on her face.
