He couldn't understand why she wasn't going to school at such a young age, but instead chose to stay at home and lie around, and he couldn't understand why she suddenly became an actress.
Ellie paused, her hand holding the chopsticks still, as she pondered.
"Because I need to earn money; I can't keep spending my mom's money."

That's a realistic reason, human nature, nothing strange about it.

The phone on the corner of the table vibrated.
Su Luo glanced at the screen, saw the caller ID, and her heart skipped a beat.
It was Ye Xiaoman calling. Damn it, he always goes straight home for dinner after get off work, but today he came out with Ellie.
I forgot to tell Ye Xiaoman that I wouldn't be eating at home.
So, he put down his chopsticks and immediately answered the phone.
Before Su Luo could speak, Ye Xiaoman's somewhat displeased voice came from the other end.
"Where have you been? Why aren't you home yet?"
Su Luo took a deep breath and explained, "I ate out, I won't be eating at home tonight."
Ye Xiaoman suppressed her anger and spoke restrainedly.
"What? Why didn't you say so earlier? The food was all cooked, who were you eating out with?"
Su Luo frankly stated, "It's with one of the artists in the company."
Ye Xiaoman asked warily.
"Which one, do I know him?"
It's strange, Su Luo never goes out to eat alone with artists from her company in private, for fear of gossip.
Why the sudden exception today? Who exactly is this person having dinner with Su Luo?
Su Luo said honestly.
“I told you, Ellie.”
