Chapter 235 Warmth on the Road

After buying the train ticket, Li Shaozhong found a phone at the train station and called home, "Mom, we bought sleeper berths for tomorrow morning's train, going directly to Kyoto."

Li Shaozhong told his mother the train number and asked his family to pick them up when the time came.

Yang Jinping was overjoyed when she heard that her son and daughter-in-law were finally coming back. "You must take good care of Xiao Ning on the way and don't let her get tired."

Yang Jinping was really worried and kept giving instructions.

After hanging up the phone with his mother and paying the bill, Li Shaozhong hurried back to the guesthouse.

When he returned, Ye Shuning was sleeping soundly. Her sleepiness symptoms had not changed and were getting worse, so she didn't even notice when Li Shaozhong came back.

Li Shaozhong quietly closed the door and didn't dare lie down on the bed. He was afraid of disturbing his wife's rest because of his cold body. He sat on a chair nearby, took out a book and began to read.

When Ye Shuning woke up from her nap, it was already dark. Li Shaozhong turned on the light and was reading. When he saw his wife wake up, he went up to her and asked, "Xiaoning, how are you feeling? Are you feeling well?"

Ye Shuning said sleepily, "I'm fine. I'm not feeling unwell. Honey, have you bought the tickets?"

Li Shaozhong nodded. "The train tomorrow morning at around 10 o'clock is just in time, and it goes directly to Kyoto. Xiao Ning, are you hungry? Let's go in and cook?"

Ye Shuning nodded, "Is the door closed?"

"It's locked."

Ye Shuning took Li Shaozhong into the research institute. The temperature inside the institute was much higher, warm and comfortable. Li Shaozhong took off his outer cotton coat and found comfortable home clothes for Ye Shuning to change into.

He let Ye Shuning continue to lie on the sofa and rest, washed some fruits and put them on the coffee table for his wife to eat, and then he went into the kitchen to cook.

Ye Shuning's legs and feet were swollen from her pregnancy, so she had to wear shoes two sizes larger. Now when she walked outside, she simply wore those loose-fitting cotton shoes, which were comfortable and safe.

So Li Shaozhong doesn't let his wife stand for long periods of time now. She only gets up to walk when she's going for a walk. This time back in Kyoto, Li Shaozhong was really worried that his wife wouldn't be able to handle it. But now that she seems to be doing okay, he's relieved.

There was everything in the refrigerator. Li Shaozhong took out the frozen fish balls he had made earlier to make fish ball soup, and also took out some vegetables.

He first steamed the rice in the rice cooker and then began preparing the ingredients. Li Shaozhong made a steamed shrimp and egg custard, stir-fried shredded pork with fish flavor, a braised eggplant, and a fish ball soup—enough for two people.

Only after the food was served did Li Shaozhong help Ye Shuning sit at the table.

Ye Shuning looked at the food on the table and smiled, "The food you cook is becoming more and more like what you cook. It looks very good."

Li Shaozhong served his wife a bowl of rice and joked, "Isn't this because you, as a master, have taught me well? As the saying goes, a good teacher produces a good student. I have also inherited your true teachings."

The couple chatted and laughed while having a fairly sumptuous dinner.

After dinner, Ye Shuning rested for a while before taking a shower. She would be spending the next few days on the train, so she thought it would be a good idea to take a shower today.

Li Shaozhong was worried and stayed outside the door the whole time. If Ye Shuning hadn't refused his help, he would have wanted to bathe his wife himself. It was really Ye Shuning's big belly that made him worry.

After waiting for a long time for Ye Shuning to finish taking a shower, Li Shaozhong personally wiped and dried his wife's hair. After helping his wife go to bed, Li Shaozhong went into the bathroom to take a shower.

When he came out of the bathroom, he saw that his wife had fallen asleep. Li Shaozhong knew that his wife was sleepy due to pregnancy, so he smiled silently and leaned a small pillow on her lower back to make her sleep more relaxed.

Because of her frequent urination during pregnancy, Ye Shuning had to run to the bathroom several times every night. Li Shaozhong would wake up every night, worried that something might be wrong with her. He also understood the difficulties of becoming a mother and felt even more sorry for her.

Ye Shuning had a good night's rest and woke up feeling refreshed. Li Shaozhong was also pleased to see this. After breakfast, the two packed up and checked out of the hotel and headed for the train station. The guesthouse was not far from the train station, and Li Shaozhong helped Ye Shuning walk for half an hour, stopping and starting.

Li Shaozhong looked at the time and saw that the train would not arrive for more than half an hour. He helped Ye Shuning sit down in the waiting hall of the train station to rest.

Ticket checking started soon. Li Shaozhong helped his wife queue up for ticket checking, and then went to the platform to wait for the train to arrive.

This train was a passing train, and Li Shaozhong heaved a sigh of relief when he helped his wife onto their sleeper car. Li Shao helped Ye Shuning sit on the lower berth. He had explained the situation to the conductor yesterday and luckily had managed to buy two sleeper tickets.

Li Shaozhong looked at his wife, who looked a little unhappy, and asked nervously, "Xiao Ning, how are you? Are you feeling unwell?"

Ye Shuning shook her head. "It's okay. I'm fine. I'm just a little tired. Don't worry."

"Then you should lie down and rest for a while. We are already on the train, you can rest assured." Li Shaozhong helped Ye Shuning lie down.

Ye Shuning felt really tired holding her big belly, so she just lay down.

Li Shaozhong covered his wife with a blanket and then took the blanket from his lower bunk for her to lean on. The train conditions were so limited that they could only make do.

Li Shaozhong took out another cup to pour some hot water, and then took out the washed fruit.

At this time, the train started. After waiting for a while, no one else got on in their compartment, which made the couple very happy.

Li Shaozhong peeled an orange for his wife and said, "It's very kind of us not to have anyone get on this station in our compartment. We can feel more at ease now. Come, wife, have an orange. This orange is not cold."

As he said that, he handed Ye Shuning the peeled orange.

Ye Shuning took the orange and started eating it. "Honey, we have to stay on the train for several days, right?"

Li Shaozhong nodded and said, "This train stops at many stations, so it's slower. You'll have to endure it for two more days."

Ye Shuning leaned close to Li Shaozhong and whispered, "It's nothing. Let's take out some extra things while no one is around so we can be more comfortable on the train."

Li Shaozhong nodded and then went to the door of the private room. Seeing no one coming, he turned and nodded to his wife. Li Shaozhong watched Ye Shuning from the doorway as she went out to get some things: apples and pears, which are fruits found in the north. She then took out some dried fruits, which she could eat regularly to supplement her vitamins.

She also took out eggs, dried meat, meat sauce, pickles, milk powder, malted milk, cakes, water chestnut cakes and other pastries. In short, she took out enough food for them to eat during the journey.

Li Shaozhong looked at the things his wife had placed on the bed and the small table, and quickly asked his wife to take out a big backpack to pack some of these things.
