Chapter 38 Here We Go Again

When Li Wenbin saw Ye Shuning again during work in the afternoon, he took the initiative to greet her, saying, "Hello, Ye Shuning. I'm Li Wenbin from the educated youth center. Brother Li and Brother Yan came to see me earlier and asked me to take care of you. If you need any help in the future, just let me know."

Ye Shuning saw that the man who greeted her was a sunny and handsome young man, tall, but a little thin. However, few people in this era were not thin because they didn't have enough food.

As soon as Ye Shuning heard the young man's words, she knew that it was the family that Li Shaozhong and Yan Jingwen had found, and responded, "Thank you, Li Zhiqing."

Li Wenbin felt like he had finally gotten to know Ye Shuning. Although Ye Shuning hadn't said much to him, he was still very happy. The girl wasn't just pretty, she had a nicer voice. Li Wenbin decided to take better care of Ye Shuning in the future.

Although they are not familiar with each other now, there will always be opportunities for them to come into contact since they live in the same village.

Thanks to everyone's joint efforts, spring plowing has finally been completed, and the next period of time will not be too busy.

The weather was getting warmer, and many wild vegetables were growing. Many people started to go to the fields and mountains to pick wild vegetables. Ye Shuning also went to pick wild vegetables with a basket on her back.

Yang Xiuying was worried about Ye Shuning going up the mountain alone to pick wild vegetables, so sometimes she followed her, and sometimes she let her youngest son and eldest grandson go with Ye Shuning.

On the weekend, Ye Shuning, Pan Yongnian, and Pan Weidong went up the mountain again. Wild vegetables grew larger in the sunny, sheltered areas of the mountain. Ye Shuning found a spot with more wild vegetables and dug them with Pan Yongnian and Pan Weidong.

Ye Shuning was going to dig some wild vegetables and make some steamed dumplings with them. Adding a few eggs to the wild vegetables made the vegetarian dumplings very delicious.

After a winter without fresh vegetables, many people are eager to dig up some fresh wild vegetables to change their taste.

Ye Shuning used her small backpack to dig up wild vegetables, and when no one was paying attention, she even put some of them into the research institute's space. After all, she had come all this way, so she had to bring back some.

The baskets that Pan Yongnian and his friends brought were soon filled with wild vegetables, and Ye Shuning's small backpack was almost full as well, so the three of them went home together.

After returning home, Ye Shuning picked and cleaned the wild vegetables by the stream not far from the backyard. She placed the wild vegetables in the main room to drain the water and started to knead the dough.

She wanted to make steamed dumplings, so she kneaded the dough until it was very soft. She wanted to make extra dumplings to eat tomorrow. After the dough was kneaded and set aside, she began to mix the filling.

Chopped wild vegetables and fried eggs are put together, and then oil, salt and other seasonings are added. A small bowl of wild vegetable and egg dumpling filling is ready. The dumplings are fragrant even before they are cooked.

She took out the dough and started making dumplings.

Just when she was about to finish wrapping the dumplings, she heard someone calling her outside the yard. She put down a dumpling and walked into the yard. She saw Li Shaozhong pushing a bicycle outside the gate.

Ye Shuning didn't know why this person came again.

She walked to the gate, opened the wooden fence, and asked, "Brother Li San, why are you here?"

Li Shaozhong opened a bag he was carrying to reveal a puppy. He said, "I asked someone to get you a puppy. When it grows up, it can guard the house and protect you. Although it's still small now, it can alert you in advance if there's any movement."

Ye Shuning didn't expect Li Shaozhong to remember her plan to get a dog. She stepped aside and said, "Thank you so much. Please come in and sit down."

Li Shaozhong pushed his bicycle into the yard, took off a bag from the back of the bicycle and carried it into the house.

When he entered the room, he saw dumplings wrapped in a flat board and half a curtain on the table, and another set of dumplings wrapped in a curtain on the side.

Ye Shuning washed her hands, poured Li Shaozhong a glass of water, and said, "Brother Li, you haven't had lunch yet, right? I'll make steamed dumplings with wild vegetable fillings for lunch, and you can eat them here. I've troubled you a lot in the past, so today I'll treat you to a meal."

Li Shaozhong looked at the plump white dumplings, glanced at Ye Shuning and said, "Then I won't be polite."

Ye Shuning asked Li Shaozhong to sit down first while she finished wrapping the remaining dumplings.

Li Shaozhong took the puppy out of the bag. The little guy was a little shy and stayed at Li Shaozhong's feet without moving. But after a while, the little guy wandered away on the ground.

Li Shaozhong said, "This puppy is almost two months old and can eat on its own. You don't need to feed it much. Let it find food on its own when it grows up. If your place wasn't so remote and you lived alone, I wouldn't have gotten you this puppy. After all, it still needs food."

Ye Shuning said, "That's nothing. I have enough food. I'll feel more at ease with it by my side in the future."

Li Shaozhong said, "If you don't have enough food, tell me and I'll find a way to get you some. Fine grains are hard to come by, but coarse grains are fine."

Li Shaozhong took out a lot of things from the bag he brought in, including a small bag of rice, a can of malted milk, a bag of brown sugar, two packages of snacks, a bag of dates, towels, soap, toothpaste, and so on. There was really a lot of stuff.

Seeing Li Shaozhong taking out so many things, Ye Shuning asked, "Why did you bring so many things?"

Li Shaozhong said, "You've just settled down here, so you must be short of a lot of things. These things are all things you'll need, so don't be stingy. I have tickets, and it would be a waste if I don't use them."

Ye Shuning said, "I bought so many things in Kyoto last time. I don't need anything here. You don't have to worry about me. Take the things back. You need them yourself."

Li Shaozhong sat on the stool Ye Shuning handed him and said, "I'm giving you these things, so keep them. These daily necessities won't break, so keep them for future use. Besides, this is what my second brother asked me to do.

How are you doing here? Are you adapting to farm work? Are you tired?"

Ye Shuning said as she made dumplings, "It was indeed tiring at first, but I gradually got used to it. There's only happiness you can't enjoy, but no hardship you can't endure. You can get through it if you grit your teeth."

Soon the dumplings were wrapped and Ye Shuning put them in the pot to steam.

Li Shaozhong also took the initiative to sit in front of the stove to help add firewood and light the fire.

The dumplings were steamed in the pot for a while and the aroma came out. Not to mention that the aroma was really tempting. Li Shaozhong was full of expectations for Ye Shuning's cooking skills. He had eaten the fish soup and grilled fish made by Ye Shuning, and they were both delicious.

Half an hour later, the steamed dumplings were out of the pot. Ye Shuning also made some cornmeal porridge, which was ready soon.

Soon Ye Shuning and Li Shaozhong sat down at the dinner table.

Ye Shuning poured some vinegar into Li Shaozhong's bowl and said, "Try these dumplings stuffed with wild vegetables. I just dug these wild vegetables today. They are so fresh."

Li Shaozhong had saved her and helped her several times, so she naturally wanted to treat him well as a way of repaying him.
