Ye Shuning put away her fishing rod, carrying a bucket full of fish, and went home. When she got home, she set aside some of the fish to send to the Pan family.
She kept the remaining fish in a basin and prepared to cook them in the evening.
She did not wake up Li Shaozhong and his nephew who were taking a nap, and went to Pan's house with the live fish in the bucket.
When she arrived at Pan's house, everyone in the family was having lunch, and Pan Weidong was playing in the yard with his younger brothers and sisters.
Ye Shuning didn't call the adults, but instructed Pan Weidong, "Before you go to school later, tell grandma that your aunt sent you some fish. Let grandma cook fish for you tonight."
Yang Xiuying was not asleep at all, she was just lying down to rest, and came out when she heard the noise.
Seeing this, Ye Shuning said, "Auntie, am I sorry to disturb your rest?"
Yang Xiuying tucked her hair and said, "No, I was just lying on the kang, not asleep. What are you doing?"
Ye Shuning said, looking at the bucket of fish: "I went fishing in the river and caught quite a few. I'll bring some to you."
Yang Xiuying walked in and saw the lively crucian carp in the bucket and said, "Hey, you guys can just keep it for yourselves, why did you send it to us?"
Ye Shuning said, "I still have a lot at home. I'll go fishing when I run out. I tell you, I'm quite good at fishing. This fish is very nutritious. You can cook it for your family. Why are you being so polite to me?"
Yang Xiuying also knew that Ye Shuning was sincere in her giving, so she stopped being polite. It's a good thing for everyone to give and take.
Yang Xiuying said, "Are you going to school? Don't worry about this bucket. I'll ask Weidong to bring it to you later."
Ye Shuning nodded. "Okay, I'll go to school first. Class will start soon. Weidong, let's go to school together."
After hearing what Ye Shuning said, Pan Weidong stopped playing and followed Ye Shuning to school.
When Pan Dongshan and his friends woke up from their lunch break, they saw the fish in the bucket in the main hall and asked, "Where did these fish come from?"
Yang Xiuying said, "Xiao Ning sent it to us. She said she caught a lot herself and sent us some. I guess Xiao Ning went to the river to fish to add nutrition to Shaozhong."
Pan Dongshan said, "Since Xiao Ning sent it tonight, let's cook it all while it's fresh."
The Pan family's daughters-in-law were also very happy to see the live fish in the bucket. It was rare for them to see meat, and so many fish were enough for the whole family to have a delicious meal.
The eldest daughter-in-law, Li Shufen, said, "Xiao Ning is really capable. She caught so many fish. The Fengyang River is so deep, there are a lot of fish in the river."
The second daughter-in-law, Liu Mei, also nodded and said, "Some people have gone fishing before, but it was very difficult. Xiao Ning is really amazing. Mom, how are we going to cook this fish tonight?"
Yang Xiuying said, "Let's eat the fish fresh. We've already cooked it tonight, so let's just stew it."
Everyone was very happy when they heard this, and they all felt that Ye Shuning was very grateful and always thought of the Pan family when there was something good.
After school in the evening, Ye Shuning returned home, carrying the basin with crucian carp, and took another basin to sit in the yard to process the fish.
For dinner, she planned to make braised crucian carp and crucian carp soup. For vegetarian dishes, she would have some cucumber salad and stir-fried rapeseed, a perfect combination of meat and vegetables.
The crucian carp was quickly cleaned up, and Ye Shuning didn't keep any for herself. She told herself to go fishing again if she wanted to eat more.
In the yard, Ye Shuning used a lot of oil to cook fish, and the aroma soon drifted into the house. Li Shaozhong knew Ye Shuning was cooking fish when he smelled the aroma. He had seen the crucian carp in the basin in the afternoon, and he was looking forward to dinner.
Li Jingyu had long been attracted to the inner courtyard by the aroma. He sat beside Ye Shuning and watched her fry the fish, then pour water and various seasonings to stew the fish. The little guy stared at the fish in the pot with bright eyes.
Ye Shuning pinched Li Jingyu's little face and said, "We'll have fish to eat soon. Auntie made a lot today, so you can eat as much as you want in a while."
The little guy shyly ran back to his uncle in the west room. Ye Shuning looked at Li Jingyu, who had become noticeably more cheerful. She knew that after Li Shaozhong's arrival, the little guy felt safer and was gradually returning to his normal self. She hoped that one day he would be completely well again.
After the braised fish was ready, Ye Shuning made fish soup and finally added some coriander that she grew in the yard. The fish soup tasted very fresh.
Before all the dishes were served, uncle Li Shaozhong and his nephew were already waiting by the table.
Ye Shuning placed the last dish on the table and said, "Third brother, get some fish for Jingyu first. Fish has bones, so you definitely can't let him eat it alone."
Li Shaozhong said, "Don't worry, let's eat together."
Ye Shuning put the hot steamed buns on the table and said, "Eat quickly. The little guy looks hungry."
Li Shaozhong only started eating after Ye Shuning sat down.
Ye Shuning served everyone a bowl of fish soup. "Brother Li, try my fish soup. It's delicious. Drink more. It's nutritious."
Li Shaozhong took a sip of the fish soup and was pleasantly surprised. "This fish soup is really fresh and delicious. Your cooking skills are really good."
Ye Shuning brought an empty bowl for Li Jingyu and placed the fish meat, now boneless, in the bowl in front of the little guy. The little guy couldn't stop eating with his chopsticks. He took a bite of the fish, a bite of the steamed bun, and then a sip of the fish soup. The little guy ate with relish.
Ye Shuning looked at Li Jingyu and asked with a smile: "Jingyu, how is it? Is the fish that Auntie cooked delicious?"
This time Li Jingyu nodded quickly.
Li Shaozhong looked at his nephew and said, "When your aunt asks you a question, you must answer it properly. Speak."
After hearing what his uncle said, Li Jingyu glanced at him and then turned around and said, "It's delicious. Thank you, Aunt Xiaoning."
Ye Shuning was extremely surprised to hear Li Jingyu actually speak, "Jingyu, you actually spoke?"
Li Shaozhong patted his nephew's head and said, "Something happened at home before, and he was quite frightened. Fortunately, he is much better now. He also started talking today."
Ye Shuning was really happy about Li Jingyu's changes. "That's great. Jingyu is back to normal. He will slowly adapt to this place. With you as his uncle by his side and meeting some new friends, he will have a happy childhood."
Li Shaozhong looked at Ye Shuning gratefully and said, "Thank you for your meticulous care for him during this period. Otherwise, he wouldn't have recovered so quickly."
Ye Shuning looked at Li Jingyu tenderly and said, "Anyone would like such a well-behaved and cute child and would unconsciously treat him well."
Li Shaozhong felt a little complicated when listening to Ye Shuning's words. Such a lovely child, but his mother abandoned him. It can only be said that the woman is not worthy of being a mother.
Everyone was very full at this meal. The little guy Li Jingyu drank two large bowls of fish soup, and Li Shaozhong drank four bowls. They also ate a lot of braised fish.
Ye Shuning saved one plate for tomorrow morning, and the other two plates of fish were eaten up.
Li Shaozhong touched his bloated stomach and said, "If I keep eating like this, I'm going to get fat."
Ye Shuning pursed her lips and smiled secretly. Looking at Li Shaozhong's good figure even when he was sitting, she said, "You're injured, aren't you? Why don't you exercise more when you're fully recovered? Besides, you're thin enough now, so a little weight won't be a big deal."
